The Primary School Leaving Examination ( PSLE) ( Malay: Peperiksaan Tamat Sekolah Rendah, Chinese: 小六会考; pinyin: xiǎo lìu huì kǎo) is a national examination in Singapore that is administered by the Ministry of Education and taken by all students near the end of their sixth year in primary school before they move on to secondary school.
Mother Tongue is a compulsory examinable subject at the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) and the GCE "N", "O" and "A" level examinations. Students are required to achieve a certain level of proficiency in what the government considers their mother tongue as a pre-requisite for admission to local universities.
PSLE Score Remarks G1/Normal (Technical) 25-30: AL7 or better in English and Mathematics required. G2/Normal (Academic) 21-25: G3/Express: 4-22: Eligible for Higher Mother Tongue (HMTL) if student's PSLE score is 8 or less; if student had a merit grade in HCL, the minimum score is relaxed to 14.
