The Rowan-Salisbury School System (also called Rowan-Salisbury Schools or for short RSS) is a PK – 12 graded school district in North Carolina covering nearly all of Rowan County including the city of Salisbury. The second largest employer in the county, the system's 35 schools serve 20,000 students as of 2013–2014.
The school offers 16 AP courses during the 2011–2012 school year. Salisbury High also has the highest average SAT score in the school system, with a score of 1480. On August 4, 1958, the Rowan County Board voted unanimously to name the North Rowan High School athletic field "The James Carr Eagle Athletic Field". On September 21, 1958, the building was dedicated with Dr. Charles Carroll, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, as speaker at the ceremonies.
