Boetsch was a four-time state wrestling champion, and won almost every tournament that he participated in. On August 4, 2012, he was inducted into the Maine Wrestling Hall of Fame. He then attended Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania on a wrestling scholarship, but had mixed results in his wrestling career there.
On May 17, 2011 Bucky Maughan announced his retirement. His replacement would eventually be Roger Kish, who was a two-time NCAA runner-up at the University of Minnesota. Kish left after 12 years in 2023 and was replaced by Obe Blanc, an All-American wrestler for Lock Haven University and former assistant at North Carolina State University and NDSU.

Appearing as Rita Marie, she became the first female referee in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 1984. Chatterton accused WWF promoter Vince McMahon of raping her in 1986, her final year with the company.
