It was part of the University System of Georgia which was merged it into Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in 2017. The college's campus was located on 173 acres (0.70 km 2) of land just inside the Bainbridge city limits on U.S. Highway 84 East.
Bainbridge is located in the center of Decatur County. The city is in southwestern Georgia along U.S. Routes 27 and 84, which form a bypass around the southern part of the city. U.S. Route 27 leads southeast 42 miles (68 km) to Tallahassee, Florida, and north 128 miles (206 km) to Columbus.
The college is named after Abraham Baldwin, a signer of the United States Constitution from Georgia and the first president of the University of Georgia. ABAC was established in 1908 as the Second District A&M School. The name was changed to the South Georgia A&M College in 1924, and to the Georgia State College for Men in 1929.
