Cleburne County is a county located in the east central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,056. [1] Its county seat is Heflin. [2] Its name is in honor of Patrick R. Cleburne of Arkansas [3] who rose to the rank of major general in the Confederate States Army.
Heflin is a city and the county seat of Cleburne County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census , the population was 3,431. It is located approximately halfway between Birmingham and Atlanta along Interstate 20 .
The Arbacoochee Beat (Precinct) (Cleburne County 10th Beat) first appeared on the 1880 U.S. Census. It was changed from "beat" to "precinct" in 1890. The precinct continued to report until 1950. In 1960, the precinct was merged as part of a larger reorganization of counties into the census division of Heflin.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 23.5% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males.
The Shoal Creek ranger station is located in Heflin and the Talladega ranger station in its namesake city of Talladega. The forest covers parts of eleven counties in Alabama. In descending order of forest land area they are Cleburne, Clay, Bibb, Talladega, Perry, Hale, Calhoun, Chilton, Tuscaloosa, Cherokee, and Dallas counties.

June 22, 1976. The Cleburne County Courthouse is a Classical Revival courthouse in Heflin, Alabama. Built in 1907, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. [1]
