Michelin (/ ˈmɪʃəlɪn, ˈmɪtʃəlɪn / MISH-əl-in, MITCH-əl-in, French: [miʃlɛ̃]), in full Compagnie Générale des Établissements Michelin SCA ("General Company of the Michelin Enterprises P.L.S. "), is a French multinational tyre manufacturing company based in Clermont-Ferrand in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes région of France.
In 1900, there were fewer than 3,000 cars on the roads of France. To increase the demand for cars and, accordingly, car tyres, the car tyre manufacturers and brothers Édouard and André Michelin published a guide for French motorists, the Guide Michelin (Michelin Guide). [ 2 ] Nearly 35,000 copies of this first, free edition were distributed.

Under his leadership, a family business founded by his grandfather became the leading global tire manufacturer, dominating the market in Europe and the US.
