Terre Haute ( / ˈtɛrə ˈhoʊt / TERR-ə HOHT) [4] is a city in and the county seat of Vigo County, Indiana, United States, [5] about 5 miles (8 km) east of the state's western border with Illinois. Initially named the Hulman Civic University Center, the facility opened on December 14, 1973.
