Always leading the way when it comes to safety, Volvo has proven to be one auto manufacturers genuinely concerned about the safety of those who purchase their vehicle. With their reputation for creating safe and reliable vehicles, it is highly unlikely that you’ll be continuously fixing something on your Volvo. However, If you find yourself in such a situation, and you find that you’ve hit a brick wall having a Volvo repair manual may help you find a way around that brick wall.

Volvo translates as “I am rolling!”. Founded by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larsson as a spin-off from a ball-bearing manufacturer SKF. Originally, Volvo produced closed top and cabriolet versions of its 4-cylinder PV4 and OV4 Jakob models, which were successful seeing as they were more suited to withstand the harsh Swedish climate by how they were constructed than U.S. imports.

In 1929 a 6-cylinder PV651 model was debuted. It sold so well that Volvo was able to use the funds to buy its first factory and engine supplier.

Introduced in 1936, the PV 51 was a cheaper model, akin to its more expensive sibling, the PV36, in design, but less well equipped and smaller in size.

Near the end of the Second World War, the PV444 was unveiled. It was an overnight success and was joined by more successes as Volvo expanded its horizons and started launching various models in the U.S. market, including but not limited to the 120/Amazon.

In 1959, Volvo became the first to equip three-point safety belts in the Amazon and PV544. Other innovations in safety were rear-facing child seats, crumple zones, side collision protection, collapsible steering columns, and the three-way catalytic converter.

Another first for the company came when Volvo manufactured its first sports car, which was the P1800. It was introduced to the public in 1960, and found much fame in the TV series, The Saint, starring Roger Moore. In 1964, Volvo launched the Volvo 140, firstly as a saloon and later as an estate, which was their foray into family vehicles. So, whether you’re a just fixing something minor or tearing your Volvo down to its guts, remember if you ever need help, having a Volvo service manual on hand can make any repair job go smoother.
