Water Restoration Technician (WRT)
What You’ll Learn
The WRT course teaches the fundamentals of water damage restoration. Students will understand the technical aspects of performing a water damage project using the IICRC S500 Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration, which is the industry standard. Learning objectives include:
- Locating moisture using moisture meters and detection tools
- Types of equipment & how much is needed
- Psychrometry (science of drying)
- Classes and categories of water damage

Fire & Smoke Restoration Technician (FSRT)
What You’ll Learn
The FSRT course teaches the fundamentals of fire damage restoration. Students will understand the technical procedures to restpre a building damaged from fire and smoke. This class can be taken in person or online. Learning objectives include:

Odor Control Technician (OCT)
What You’ll Learn
The OCT course focuses on odor, odor sources, theory of odor control, equipment, chemicals, and application in real-world projects. Learning objectives include:

Trauma & Crime Scene Cleanup Technician (TCST)
What You’ll Learn
The TCST course covers the technical and safe cleaning of properties that involve trauma or biohazard cleaning. Learning objectives include:

Contents Processing Technician (CPT)
What you’ll Learn
The CPT course teaches the fundamentals of contents and contents processing. This includes types of contents, cleaning, transportation, pack out and pack back, and storage. how to identify Learning objectives include:

Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT)
What you’ll Learn
The AMRT course teaches the safe and technical procedures for remediating properties affected by mold and sewage. Learning objectives include:

Health & Safety Technician (HST)
What You’ll Learn
The HST class is all about being safe on restoration projects! Students will learn about federal safety standards, the hierarchy of controls, and best practices to keep everyone safe. Learning objectives include:

Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT)
What You’ll Learn
The CCT course teaches students the safe and effective techniques to clean carpets, including the art and science for the practical cleaning application. Learning objectives include:

Fabric & Upholstery Cleaning Technician (UFT)

Color Repair Technician (CRT)
What You’ll Learn
The Color Repair Technician teaches the history of color, color theory, carpet styles, dyes, and dye procedures. Students will use a hands-on approach with a personal dyeing kit to put their knowledge to use! Learning objectives include:

Applied Structural Drying (ASD)
What You’ll Learn
The Applied Structural Drying or ASD course teaches students water damage restoration using a hand-on approach to dry out a flooded house. Students will extract water, identify water migration, install equipment, and monitor the drying process. The course is Learning objectives include:

- Psychrometry (the science of drying)

Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician (CCMT)
What You’ll Learn
The CCMT course teaches entry-level procedures for commercial carpet cleaning. The course is based on the IICRC S100 Standard for Professional Cleaning of Textile Floor Coverings. Learning objectives include:

Apprentice Skills in Water Restoration (ASPWR)
What You’ll Learn
The ASPWR is an introductory class to water damage restoration. Students will learn the fundamentals of water damage projects in this 4-hour course. Learning objectives include:

- Mitigation procedures

Private IICRC Classes
What is the IICRC?
The IICRC stands for the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification. The IICRC is a non-profit organization that certifies, produces and oversees standards for the inspection, cleaning and restoration industries.
This organization produces standards on cleaning and restoration topics. These standards include the “ANSI S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration” and the “ANSI S520 Standard for Professional Mold Remediation.” ANSI is the American National Standards Institute, which means each standard produced by the IICRC is peer reviewed and agreed upon by industry professionals. They offers certifications for individuals who take certification courses and pass an exam. These the include Water Restoration Technician (WRT), Applied Structural Drying Technician (ASD) and Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT). There are many other certifications you can obtain through. To earn a certification, a student must take an approved course, however, they do not offer education directly. Courses are available through approved schools. LearnToRestore.com is an approved school, and we offer many certification courses.
Many IICRC certification courses are now offered online through live-stream classes. These classes require students to participate in class and take an exam. While most classes are available in the live-stream format, some classes like ASD, are not available online.
The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification doesn’t just certify individuals, they certify businesses. Businesses can apply to become an IICRC Certified Firm. To apply, a business must have at least one IICRC certified and active technician, have the proper insurance coverage and business licenses, and pay an application fee. (Note that these requirements change from time to time, check the IICRC website for the latest requirements).
Becoming a certified firm has several benefits. These include being listed on the IICRC global locator list, free monthly webinars on industry topics, Google verification, and use of the IICRC Certified Firm logo on your vehicles, business cards, and website. This shows your customers that you have gone through the application process and have been vetted by the IICRC.
Why do I need an IICRC certification?
IICRC certifications let others know you have been taught and have demonstrated the knowledge to obtain a certification issued by the IICRC. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification is a standards body that creates standards documents, courses and exams. With input from leaders in the restoration industry, the IICRC is recognized as the industry standard.
How do I become IICRC certified?
Earning an IICRC certification is an easy process! Take one of our IICRC classes and pass the corresponding exam. The exam lets you demonstrate your knowledge gained from the class. After you pass the exam, the IICRC will send you a certificate, patch and wallet card. Many IICRC classes don’t require any prior experience, such as the IICRC WRT (Water Restoration Technician) course. Some classes build upon knowledge gained in other IICRC classes and require prerequisite courses to be taken first. For example, the AMRT (Applied Microbial Remediation Technician) class requires students to take and pass the WRT course first.
The IICRC ASD (Applied Structural Drying) class also requires WRT as a prerequisite, however we offer a combined WRT/ASD course so you can earn both certifications in one class!
