Hello Kitty as 'Zodiac Kitty'

People just can't seem to get enough of Hello Kitty, and although she's a cutie I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. Even fine jewelers like Simmons is jumping on the bandwagon with Kimora Lee Simmons' Hello Kitty collections include Simple Kitty, Princess Kitty, Glam Kitty, and (my favorite) Zodiac Kitty. I'm not even into astrology at all but think it's interesting to see how she Hello Kitty fit into the signs of zodiac, like having a bull suit for the Taurus kitty and making Pisces a pair of little mermaids (mercats?). $700-$980

Zodiac ProJet 420 C4 Tender

The humble boat tender has gradually becoming more and more luxurious, able to do more than simply get you to the shore. Zodiac, known for creating tough rubber boats showed off the plans for their ProJet 420 TC4 model at the 2008 Collins Stewart London Boat Show. The latest in the ProJet line, it has a 98hp turbocharged engine with jet propulsion and fuel enough for longer day trips. It can carry six people and is available with an aft locker, swimming platform, retractable ladder, water ski towing ring and navigation lights.The ProJet 420 starts at £20495.00 including VAT and will be available in England in a couple months.

Controversial Bronze Horse Expected to Go For $7.7 Million at Auction

The highlight of the upcoming 4 day Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong, scheduled to start on Oct 6th, will be a controversial bronze Qing Dynasty Horse head. It's one of a 12 zodiac animal set and was looted from the imperial summer palace in China back in 1860. The Chinese believe it should be returned to the Chinese goverment because it's stolen property, but Sothebys has no intention of giving it to anybody but the auction winner -- and the law is on their side. It's expected to go for HK80 million ($7.7 million).

All's fair in love and war, but it's too bad it's been separated from the other 11 zodiac animals.

Zodiac's Adorable New Yacht Tender, the Eclipse 570

The latest model from Zodiac, the maker of rough and tough inflatable boats is the cute little Eclipse 570 yacht tender. According to Superyacht Times, the 18.7 foot boat will make its U.S. boat show debut at this year's Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The little boat ferries nine passengers around in shaded comfort with bow and main canopies. The seats are well spaced out for balance with space for two on an aft bench facing forward, a double seat on the aft end of the engine compartment lid for two facing aft, two passengers can sit on the seating area forward of the engine compartment lid and the forward and side bench seats of the bow area will hold the remaining three passengers. Other details include handholds, handles for boarding, recessed boarding steps and a swim platform. The tender has an inboard diesel engine and zips you back and forth from your yacht at a brisk 30 knots.

There's just something about the zodiac that makes it a timeless design option. Despite the often cheesy reputation that astrology has, high-end options for displaying one's sign abound. The latest comes from one of my favorite jewelry designers, the always elegant Temple St. Clair. Her Fall Zodiac collection includes 18K gold pendants with a satin finish and diamond granulation on the back. All twelve signs are represented. Shown here is the Leo pendant which sells for $950.

Posto Del Sol has a lovely line of zodiac-themed jewelry called Terra e Cielo (earth and sky). Each piece features one of the zodiac symbols in either gold or silver and they can be accented with either diamonds or semiprecious birthstones. The necklaces are elegant and very well made. The company uses only conflict-free diamonds and fair-trade gems, so you can feel as good about the elements in each piece as you can about they way you will look wearing it.

Marlen Astrologie Pen

We've been covering a lot of cool astrology-related stuff lately. The simple, stylized glyphs work so well as design elements. Marlen's Astrologie fountain pen does more than display the zodicac signs; it also celebrates the history of astrology with a function that shows the planetary hours. A quick turn of the titanium sleeve shows off the planet glyphs associated with the day and hour. I'm not sure how useful this is in our modern age but it is certainly cool. The pen also has a blue titanium barrel and a sterling cap and 18K gold Astrologie fountain pen nib engraved with an strolabe design. The pen is limited to 488 pieces worldwide and has a list price of $3,000.

Zodiac Bowl

The Zodiac Bowl is part of the fall line from Steuben Glass. It was designed by David Dowler & Kiki Katahira and features engravings of the tweleve zodiac signs on its surfact. The 9-inch diameter bowl has a pedestal base and can be used as a centerpiece, as a vase for flowers or even as a serving dish, but whatever it is used for the beauty of the bowl itself will not go unremarked. You have a yacht for laidback cruising but what about the times you want to really get out in the weather and get your adrenaline going. That's where the Zodiac C27 comes in. The latest rigid-hull inflatable from Zodiac is designed for weekend warriors looking for a floating ATV. It is the consumer version of the Hurricane built by Zodiac. It has a deep-V fiberglass hull for slicing through water at high speeds. The boat has two V6 150 horsepower Evinrudes and zips along quickly. Pricing starts at $225,000 and Zodiac's website has a cool video of the boat powering through rough water at high speeds.
