Z Spoke Zac Posen Top Handle Satchel, Handbag of the Day

Zac Posen SatchelThe Z Spoke Zac Posen Top Handle Leather Satchel is a basic black that's perfect for any time of year at any time of day and for almost any occasion. It comes in other colors but I prefer the black by a long shot. It's simple, it's classic, and it's a little chunky-cute. It has a single top handle, fold-over front with push-lock closure, and a fully lined interior divided into three compartments with zip and snap pockets. A nice investment piece or for buying as your go-to staple bag for this spring and summer. $525

RSVIP: Mercedes-Benz NYC Fashion Week at Lincoln Center (Part I)

While it seems inconceivable that such a publication exists, RSVIP has been told by designers that a kind of fashion playbook can be bought each season that lists upcoming trends. Of course, the very best designers lead the march of fashion every season or even decades in advance. But, oddly enough, to play it safe, some simply present their version of items on the trend list.

RSVIP's first show at the new tents at New York's Lincoln Center was Christian Siriano, the "Project runway" winner on Thursday, September 9. Backstage, Siriano spoke of mixing cultures and ethnicities. But on the runway, we spotted several trends that would be hammered home again and again this season: tan leather skirts, jackets, and dresses in the style of the original "Planet of the Apes"; thin rope belts; big, fat double-clasp leather belts; sheer fabric as an overlay; colorful prints; mixing belts with ball gowns; and dynamic, arty prints. And while Siriano hit these notes, one couldn't help but feel that if the gigantic fluffy ball gowns that he ended the show with, right, had been made by Oscar de la Renta's tailors, they would have been a fashion editor's dream. Sand and taupe, by the way, are the new black.

At 6:00 p.m. that day at Milk Studios, on West 15th Street, a serious jaunt from Lincoln Center, designer Jen Kao covered the runway with mandala-like sand drawings. And the collection included sandy desert hues. The stringy sandal straps snaked up the legs of models. And we saw macramé, large leather patches sewn onto dresses, and much sheer tied on and sewn over sheer pants, sheer skirts, and flowing sheer shirts.

And while some of the clothes appeared overwrought in person, they photograph beautifully. RSVIP spotted Kelly Rowland in the front row, but it was tricky to chat before the show without disturbing the sand.

The Fashion Statement: Lanvin at H&M!

I can see the lines snaking around the block now! H&M confirmed it: Men and women will be able to get themselves some Lanvin at about 200 H&M stores on Nov. 23, according to Women's Wear Daily.

Word broke yesterday that the sizzling hot Paris label may be collaborating with cheap chic retailer H&M. Fashion industry bible WWD reported that the Swedish retailer was expected to announce plans with Lanvin and its creative director Alber Elbaz within the coming week.

Upon hearing the news yesterday, the fashion blogs went nuts, writing things like "Yes, Please!" and "Cross your fingers." Even a few well-heeled ladies I talked to vowed they would pick up a piece or ten from the capsule collection.

To wet our appetites, H&M has been posting 23-second highly stylized black and white videos on Facebook and Youtube. Quotes from a mystery designer comes through the mouths of male and female actors captured in flashing images that show everything but an actual face. Initially, the rumor mill focused on Tomas Maier of Bottega Venetta and Carolina Herrera as possible originators of the quotes. Then, WWD wrote yesterday: "While the camera never lingers on the faces long enough for recognition in the clips, the voice-over of designer musings, while electronically altered, are unmistakable Elbaz-isms."

Z Spoke by Zac Posen, Exclusively at SaksNearly 10 years after launching his eponymous label, Zac Posen decided to create what he called in Marie Claire "the day component, or casual component" of his fashion world. Z Spoke, available exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue, debuted a few months ago. The 60-piece collection comprises separates (knits, cotton shirting, blazers, and pleated khaki shorts) and dresses priced from $78 - $675. "They're for the hipster who has grown up and gone to work," the 31-year-old Posen said.

Fashionista Zac Posen Designs Model Apartment at 16w21 in Manhattan

Filed under: Events, Real Estate Developments, Celebrity Design

patrick mcmullanEveryone's dream apartment just got dreamier as wunderkind fashion designer Zac Posen unveiled his model apartment for architect Morris Adjmi's sleek tower at 16 West 21st Street in Manhattan on Tuesday, May 11. Posen was previously best known for dressing Hollywood stars like Claire Danes and for his breathtaking fashion shows that have been known to end with a billowing parachute cape.

Floors 10 and 11 of the as-yet unfinished building known simply as 16w21 are a generous duplex for sale with elegant contents installed by Posen over the last seven months. "My own apartment came with history and age," says Posen. "Here it was about creating warmth, something that had a sense of glamour to it . . . a lifestyle."

The two floors are connected by stairs with a velvet railing. "Like a box at the Metropolitan Opera," says Posen, cautious not to tread on the train of night-life guru Amy Sacco, just steps ahead. The coffered modernist paneling of the central hallway on 10 is painted robin's egg blue. In a bedroom to the left, pink fabric button-tufts a rococo carved bed frame. Red velvet drapes line the walls. Across the hall, the kitchen has been finished in dark teal. "That was the most fun to design," says Posen. "I had visited the Menil home in Houston, and I loved the Philip Johnson design. So I created surfaces that look as if they would wipe right off."

Zac Posen's New Housing Venture 16W21

It's a busy spring for fashion designer Zac Posen. Following up his Fall 2010 show, which was inspired by 1940s futurism, Posen brings his styles to the masses with his first ever Target fusion line with looks spanning from New York punk to old Hollywood glamor. And now, Posen extends his brand into the New York City housing market, completing the entire interior of a new luxury boutique residence in Flatiron, 16w21, which opens next month. The green condominiums set a new standard for design, integrating a studious level of attention to every detail of the building, highlighting the way that where we live influences how we live.

A stunning new ad campaign, "The Model Apartment," tells the story of one resident bachelor, a model man inside his model apartment, photographed and filmed inside a built-to-scale replica of the building itself. Click below to see a gallery of the ads, and view the videos here. The voyeuristic assemblage, following the model man through his bedroom, living room and kitchen, dives deep into the beautiful interiors, and sets the stage for a continuous story of how gorgeous design defines our lifestyles.

Zac Posen Patent Apple Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Sometimes I like a bag more for the name than anything else, and although this Zac Posen Patent Apple Clutch is certainly cute I think this is one of the those times -- "patent apple clutch" is just such a fun sounding title! Anyway, getting to the bag itself it's another patent leather variety but the glam of the shine is toned down somewhat by the earthiness of the poppy and midnight blue color options. Features include a kiss lock closure and suede lining, plus the front flap opens to reveal an extra pocket. $795

Zac Posen Bo Shoulder Bag, Handbag of the Day

The Zac Posen Bo Shoulder Bag is the exact opposite of many of the slouchy hobos being seen this season. Multi-colored patent leather (with only a subtle sheen) is given shape with strategically placed seams and pleats, along with structural elements like a rolled leather handle and wide leather band that goes around almost the entire bag. Other features include a luxe lining of suede, mini-handle detail on the flap, magnetic closure, and of course the usual interior zip pocket. It comes in your choice of the multi-colored slate version seen here or solid honey yellow. 17 1/2" x 9" x 2 1/2", $1195.

Zac Posen Zac Sac Hobo, Handbag of the Day

I am loving the French blue of this bag and the gently curved silhouette. Accented with gold tone details, the bag sports a chain-inset strap and a large zippered top. Black piping adds subtle contrast to the decidedly unfussy design and a simple flap pocket adorns the front. Lined in suede, the Italian-made bag measures 13½"W X 15"H X 5½"D and has an 11" strap drop. $1295.

Zac Posen Iconic Tote, Handbag of the Day

It's hard to say whether "iconic" might be a little bit too strong of a word for Zac Posen's Iconic Tote, but the bag is designed to have an impact. It is made of a caramel-colored grained leather with a dark chocolate leather trim. The hardware is made of gold-tone brass, including the rings that attach the rolled-leather shoulder straps, small accent studs and the turn-lock closure on the front pocket. The main compartment of the bag has a zip top and is lined in suede. It measures 17"L x 13.5"H x 7"W. Price: $1,295.
