Saying "orange, pink, and mustard" doesn't sound very appealing but looking at orange, pink, and mustard on this Lucky Chyc Color-Block Tote by Yves Saint Laurent is another story altogether. Throw in some taupe, dark brown, and off-white and you've got an earthy but very modern take on color blocking. Details include visible black quilt stitch trim, very thin rolled leather double top handles, a "Y" compartment on the front exterior, protective feet, and a taupe twill lining with brown leather interior pouch pockets. RSVIP: Fashion Sings at Yves Saint Laurent-Sponsored Met Opera Gala

Emmy Rossum Yves Saint Laurent Met Opera

Rossini never wrote love music more lovely than the score of "Le Comte Ory" (1828), a comic opera which debuted at The Metropolitan Opera in New York on Thursday. But Yves Saint Laurent creative director Stefano Pilati was responsible for the cavalcade of fashion on the gala's jet-black arrivals carpet.

The set: the icy chill of a tented quarter-mile hallway leading to the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center on March 24.

The story onstage at the Met: love, identity confusion, and some cross-dressing in the 19th century. Met director Bartlett Sher has described "Le Comte Ory" as "a place where love is dangerous. People get hurt."

"That can be very funny and very painful," quips Sher.

Yves St. Laurent To Hand Out Magazine On The Street

Yves Saint Laurent is taking to the streets in its latest campaign. Yves Saint Laurent La Manifesto is a print magazine that comes in a YSL totebag and will be given to the first 2,000 passers-by in various cities around the world according to Luxury Daily. This is the eight edition of the publication and will be distributed in New York, Paris, London, Milan, Hong Kong, Tokyo and, for the first time, Los Angeles. The brand uses social media including Facebook and Twitter to announce the locations where the magazine will be handed out.

The magazine was conceived by YSL director Stefano Pilati. This edition features an interview between Pilati and Hans Ulrich Obrist, a curator and art critic of the Serpentine Gallery in London. Those who don't get their hands on a print copy can read and download it on the YSL website as of March 5.

Stefano Pilati Designs The Opium Experience: A New YSL Retail Space At Crystals, Las Vegas

"I call it the opium experience," Stefano Pilati, Creative Director of Yves Saint Laurent, and of the Yves Saint Laurent's boutique retail space design. Opium is the name of the amber/reddish lacquer of the ceilings and wall panels. It is, serendipitously, also the name of the French brand's legendary perfume.

Las Vegas has two YSL Boutiques, but the one at City Center is the first to be designed in the Stefano Pilati style. Only two other YSL stores in the US feature this design at present. Historically, the store design was unveiled back in 2008 at the beginning of Paris Fashion Week. It was Pilati's hope that the design would become iconic enough to be recognizable without any logo.

"I wanted to do something that was timeless," Pilati said in an interview back then, " where the design had to go beyond my era at Saint Laurent: it had to be contemporary, with a strong, identfiable identity."

The Yves Saint Laurent Smoky Large Leather Bag is surprisingly "cutesy" considering it consists of little more than beige leather and some well-placed ruching. It does have interesting red stitching details along the top half along with gold hardware, double rolled leather top handles, and protective metal feet on bottom. Inside there's a pop of "color" in the form of an energetic black and white floral print twill lining with both zip and pouch pockets. A large, versatile bag that says 'girly girl' in a very understated and practical way. $1,995

Everything Old Is New Again With Yves Saint Laurent's New Vintage III

Yves Saint Laurent creative director Stefano Pilati has gone into the archives again for the brand's latest project. New Vintage III is the third capsule collection from YSL that is comprised of garments made from recycled fabric and from existing patterns. The 180 pieces include classic YSL shapes such as metallic wide leg trousers, velvet tuxedo suiting jackets and leopard-print wrap dresses that look back to the 1970s designs when YSL dressed celebrities like Bianca Jagger and Catherine Deneuve. The goal of the collection is to marry "feminine refinement with sustainability." YSL's New Vintage III is available in limited, numbered editions at YSL flagship boutiques in Paris, London and New York.

The Classicist: Paradise Lost - 40 Years of Cafe Society

In the 1920s, '30s, '40s and '50s the so-called Café Society in Europe drew together aristocrats, millionaires, artists, authors, couturiers, choreographers and musicians in a "glittering world of fashion and frivolity, opulence and ostentation", notes Thierry Coudert in his ultra-stylish new book, Café Society: Socialites, Patrons and Artists 1920 to 1960 from Flammarion. Those decades were the "apotheosis of an era that was to have a profound influence on the history of taste" Coudert writes, with the likes of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Lady Diana Cooper, Diana Vreeland, Cole Porter, Noel Coward and Cecil Beaton setting the tone and deciding which artists, designers, and musicians were in vogue. The cover of the book (above) depicts heiress Barbara Hutton, then the Countess von Reventlow, at a tennis match in 1940, while Yves Saint Laurent, Orson Welles, Salvador Dali, Jean Cocteau and many more make cameos in the impressive volume.

The Fashion Statement: Fashion's Priciest Coffee Table Books

What to get the stylish woman who has everything? (And let's just say you've exhausted gifts like precious gems, haute couture and yacht excursions to St. Barths) Well, then, what about a super collectible, really expensive fashion coffee table book? Here, a list of some of the priciest tomes out there.

1. Couture Fashion Drawings by Hubert de Givenchy, published by the house of Givenchy, Paris, in 1980: This is signed by the late designer himself and includes hand-colored haute couture fashion sketch plates from the period of the '70s to the '80s including original fabric swatches. The book was part of the Estate of Nan Kempner, a New York socialite who died in 2005. Price tag? $9,000

2. Valentino Garavani (hardcover) by Suzy Menkes, Matt Tyrnauer and Armando Chitolina, published by Taschen in 2007: This is the coffee table book version of Valentino: The Last Emperor, a documentary film by Vanity Fair writer Matt Tyrnauer. It's an homage to Valentino's legendary career and includes images from his archives, drawings, advertisements, portraits, documentary photographs as well as newspaper and magazine articles. International Herald Tribune's fashion writer Suzy Menkes interviewed 20 of Valentino's closest collaborators and friends, including his life partner Giancarlo Giammetti. Price tag? $4,500

3. Russell James (hardcover deluxe edition with Gisele Bundchen photoprint) with forwards by Heidi Klum, Donna Karan, and Sharen Turney, published by teNeues in 2009: Who wouldn't pay big bucks to Gisele in the buff? This book highlights the work of Russell James, a photographer who is well-known for his nudes and fashion portraiture. The volume is encased in a clamshell box and contains one of only two numbered and signed limited-edition large prints that show his study of human beauty. Price tag? $3,250

Daria Werbowy Poses Nude for French Vogue

Canadian-born supermodel Daria Werbowy famed as the face of Prada and Lancôme, has posed completely nude for French Vogue's fashionable new calendar which will be available as a supplement to its upcoming Christmas issue with a "fantasy and sensuality" theme, guest-edited by Tom Ford. In the racy pic shot by Mikael Jansson – which we can't possibly show you here – the statuesque stunner wears nothing but some gold Louis Vuitton jewelry which seems to be all the adornment she needs. Werbowy was named the eighth highest paid supermodel in the world for 2010, earning $4.5 million. Her other ad campaigns include Yves Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Hermès, Valentino, David Yurman, Missoni, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Chanel.

Inside Luxury King Francois Pinault's Private Palazzo Museums

Francois Pinault is a man justifiably envied by many. With a fortune of $8.7 billion the high-school dropout-turned luxury goods titan is the majority shareholder of PPR, whose brands include Gucci, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta. He also owns famed auction house Christie's and the renowned Chateau Latour winery. His amazing contemporary art collection, worth an estimated $1.4 billion, encompasses 2,000-plus works by over 80 artists including Jeff Koons, Richard Prince, Takashi Murakami and Damien Hirst. Much of it is now housed as his two incredible private museums in Venice, the Palazzo Grassi and the Punta della Dogana. Both historic buildings were transformed by Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando and are the subject of a smashing new book from Skira Rizzoli.

Tadao Ando: Venice - The Pinault Collection at the Palazzo Grassi and the Punta della Dogana shows how Ando's designs seamlessly blend history and innovation while adhering to the strict laws governing the preservation of historic buildings in Venice. At the Palazzo Grassi, prominently located on the Grand Canal, Ando's quiet but expert renovation of the eighteenth-century rooms makes a perfect backdrop for Jeff Koons' eye-popping balloon sculptures. At the Punta della Dogana (shown on the cover above), the Venetian Republic's original customs warehouse, the large-scale space was subtly subdivided into refined rooms for installation art. The "dialogue – that is collision and friction – between the new and the old," Ando states, "is the driving force in creating a city's future."

Yves Saint Laurent Asymmetric Platforms

To say YSL's Asymmetric Platforms ($920) are brightly colored is an understatement. They are Willy Wonka toxic grape flavored eye candy. They stand out incredibly while on display in a store and even more so when worn. Covered in a stunningly vibrant purple suede, YSL's platforms do not need any extra bells and whistles – the color says it all. And a 5 1/2" heel with a 1 1/4" platform doesn't hurt to really bring home the point "look at my cool ass shoes!"

What to wear with your purple suede shoes? I say go all out and have fun with your outfit. Try a colorful wrap dress by Diane von Furstenberg or for a slightly subdued look, wear with grey wide leg wool trousers and a flowy colorful blouse. YSL's Asymmetric Platforms are also available in black but definitely not as daring.

Dior Couture Pleated Dress

True fashion is timeless. When you find a piece that is a classic, the momentary trends take a back seat. You imagine yourself wearing this garment for years to come because you feel exceptional in it as it works with your body perfectly. We all have that one piece, and for the lucky ones a few pieces, which make you feel as though you have truly gotten your money's worth and then some. Take for example, Diane von Furstenberg's iconic wrap dress that was originally released in the 1970's and has maintained its appeal and wearability nearly 40 years later. Amazing!

Another dress to add to that list is the Dior Couture Ivory Dress ($2,976). It's exquisite! The Dior Dress could easily being seen on a celebrity walking the red carpet or for us non-celebrities attending a formal event. Michele Meunier and Olivier Chatnenet are the designers behind the Parisian label, E2, who have reworked this vintage Dior Dress making it wearable for today. The contrast between black and ivory make for a striking presentation. Overall, the dress exudes a delicate and ultra feminine feel with an empire waist, black lace along the neckline, and silk flowers along the sides and at the waist with numerous eyelets accentuating the panel belt all topped off with a black silk ribbon at the rear. Although this dress is a hefty investment, it's one that will last through generations.
