Marcel Wanders Designs For Yoo

The Yoo design team which has created residential projects around the world with designers Phiippe Starck and Jade Jagger, has hooked up with another internationally famous designer, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders (he's the one in the center in the picture at right). Wanders is not as well known as Starck (at least here in the U.S.) but his home designs share a similar mixture of wit and utility. Wanders has designed for a variety of brands including Bizazza, Droog Design, Capellini and Moooi, and his work has appeared in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This isn't his first spin as an interior designer, Wanders has also designed the interiors of Mondrian's South Beach, Miami & Las Vegas hotels and the interior of restaurants 'Blits' in Rotterdam and 'Thor' at the Hotel on Rivington in New York.

Gramercy by Philippe Starck

Gramercy YOO by Starck is the newest New York city complex by the prolific French designer. The project launched on the 1st of May 2007 in Manhattan and half of the units are already sold. The building is standard Starckness with amenities that include a lounge, communal terrace, roof garden and fitness room. The most interesting homes in the complex are the the Duplex Sky Houses, two-story glass-fronted houses in the sky that also have private outdoor space. For your dose of Starck check out this video that includes a tour of the new development offices of Gramercy by Philippe Starck.

An Interior Picture Of The ICON Vallarta

We've checked out the exterior of the ICON Vallarta before, now let's check out the interior. The project is a $200 million luxury condominium development in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico by Related International with interior design by YOO by Philippe Starck. The most interesting thing about the design may be the way it plays with scale. Leave it to Philippe Starck to pair an eight-foot vase with a wall-sized mirror and a 20-foot floor lamp next to normal-sized tables and chairs (check out the giant candelabra in the foreground of the pic above). Starck was looking for a bit of an Alice in Wonderland effect and continues the idea in the building's restaurant where 30 foot trees in huge red pots will dwarf diners. Starck's avant-garde designs haven't always been a hit with buyers but hopefully this project will find adventurous owners.
