$5 million per month TV Megayacht

Steven Spielberg
's new high-tech $200 million megayacht may be the world's most expensive yacht charter, but the 257-ft. TV (pictured above) launched by Lürssen in 2008 isn't far behind.

Designed by the brilliant Espen Oeino, it's now available to well-heeled yachtsmen for a cool $5 million a month. With a stunning Alberto Pintor interior the impressive craft was built to entertain a large number of guests with plenty of space for different salons, dining and relaxation areas.

Rare woods combine with dark blue leather upholstery in a pleasing interior scheme. A dedicated spa area expands onto a large fold-down sea terrace which allows said guests to go from a swim to the sauna, on to massage treatments and inside/outside gym activities in "a matter of seconds". Chief among the TV's top drawer touches is a very large owner's deck with its own Jacuzzi and sunbathing areas, in addition to a helipad which also incorporates a fueling station. The luxe craft can accommodate 12 guests in all along with 25 crew.

Now it seems as though the famed director wants to recoup some of his impressive investment – he's offering the ultra-luxurious yacht for charter at $1.3 million per week. That makes it the world's most expensive yacht charter, leaving the likes of P. Diddy and Simon Cowell's crafts in the dust.

Sen. John Kerry's Sailing Yacht for Charter
Earlier this month we reported that Sen. John Kerry had joined the superyacht set in St. Barth's aboard his 75-ft. sailboat Isabel (above). Now the classic yacht is available for charter with rates beginning at about $45,000 per week. The sleek $7 million craft built by Friendship in New Zealand last year features plenty of luxe touches including a wet bar and wine storage in the pilothouse. The Edwardian-style interior is finished in glossy varnished teak, and the yacht can accommodate four guests in two VIP main staterooms with en-suite baths. Tenders and toys include a 13.5-ft. Zodiac and on board there are all the bells and whistles a busy politico needs, from satellite communications to Wifi. In the past Kerry caught flack for dodging a big tax bill on the yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I.

P. Diddy Charters the $600,000-a-Week iPad Megayacht in St. Barths

Filed under: Gadgets, Yachts & Sailing, Celebrity Shopping, Wealth

The other day we told you about Solemates (above), the $600,000 per week 197-ft. superyacht charter designed by the great Espen Oeino and launched by Lürssen earlier this year, the first of its kind to offer clients control of its various high-tech systems via the iPad. Now none other than Sean "P. Diddy" Combs has turned up on the yacht in St. Barths, where he chartered the ultra-luxe vessel for a family vacation over New Year's with girlfriend Kim Porter, their daughters D'Lila and Jessie and son Justin before jetting to Las Vegas to party. Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas visited as well. Via the iPad Diddy and co. can control the shipboard entertainment, climate and lighting systems and even summon crewmembers to bring refreshments.

The interior of the yacht, which accommodates 12 guests in six luxurious cabins, was designed by Glade Johnson in a blend of elegant, rich woods and textures and classical details paired with contemporary, sleek lines. The main and upper deck salons are awash with natural light and offer impressive spaces for formal or casual dining and entertaining. The sun deck features an outdoor dining area and a sun lounge wrapped around the Jacuzzi forward, and a discotheque sound and lighting system turns it into an al fresco nightclub. There are several toys and tenders aboard for a variety of recreational activities.

The 197-ft. superyacht Solemates designed by the great Espen Oeino and launched by Lürssen earlier this year is the first of its kind to offer charter clients control of its various high-tech systems via iPad – perhaps helping to justify the $600,000 per week price. The captain hands each guest their own iPad upon boarding, which remains theirs for the duration of the voyage. Via the device they can control the shipboard entertainment and climate systems, adjust the blinds and lights in their cabins, and even summon a crewmember to bring more cocktails. The interior of the yacht, designed by Glade Johnson, blends elegant, rich woods and textures with contemporary sleek lines. The main and upper deck salons are awash with natural light and offer impressive spaces for formal or casual dining and entertaining. The sun deck features an outdoor dining area and a sun lounge wrapped around the Jacuzzi forward. A discotheque sound and lighting system turns it into an al fresco nightclub at nightfall. The yacht accommodates 12 guests in six luxurious cabins.

Looking for something extra special to do for the holidays? For $1 million per month you can now charter the world's coolest new superyacht, the 164-ft. Exuma, in the South Pacific. As my colleague Noah Joseph reported in July when the sleek ship was first launched, the Exuma is the first motoryacht from famed Maltese Falcon builders Perini Navi. The aluminum-hulled yacht, which can accommodate ten guests in five luxurious staterooms, was just awarded the Rina Green Plus Platinum certificate in recognition of her proven commitment to environmental excellence, as well as the Most Innovative Yacht of the Year award at the 2010 World Yacht Trophy; she also took home top honors at the 2010 Nautical Design Awards. Interior furnishings for the beautiful craft were designed by Perini Navi's in-house team with a focus on classic maritime style, using oak, teak and Italian marble. The sleek ship has a range of 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots and comes equipped with a fully customized 16.4 ft. amphibious vehicle and a 12 ft. hovercraft housed in two tender garages with gull-wing doors.

Add another famous couple to The Classicist's list of superstars (including Madonna and Brangelina) sunning themselves on superyachts this summer: Jay-Z and Beyoncé. R&B's royal couple have been cruising on the French Riviera on a $40 million superyacht, the London Daily Mail reports. The pair, who earned an estimated $150 million between them last year, are chartering the 180-ft. Altitude (above), built by Italy's Benetti yachts in 2003, for $370,000 a week. The yacht can accommodate 14 guests in 6 cabins. The vast split-level owner's apartment has his and hers white marble bathrooms, a separate study and a private 180º raised observation lounge with spectacular views forward. Perini Navi Superyacht by Lord Foster for $1 Million Per Month

For a cool $1 million a month you can now charter the world's most stylish sailing superyacht, designed by famed British architect Lord Norman Foster for Perini Navi, builders of the Maltese Falcon. Dubbed the Panthalassa, the 184-ft. yacht (which we first reported on last December) represents the "perfect fusion of contemporary living and the finest nautical heritage". Natural daylight suffuses the interior of the yacht through unique skylights designed by Foster to channel light from the sundeck and oversized portholes. The centerpiece of her luxe interior is a gracefully-flowing stairwell wrapped in a translucent acrylic enclosure allowing light to flow through the main saloon as well. There's room for 12 guests in the airy interior featuring teak flooring, saddle leather wall paneling and granite surfaces. Outside the deck features a variety of places to relax and an informal outdoor eating area. A lounge, bar, library and boardroom all feature glazed screens that can be opened to create a generous central saloon. Inside the cabins, leather wall paneling complements silk rugs and gold and black marble tiled baths.

Rent The Edge's Cyan Yacht

Filed under: Yachts & Sailing, Celebrity Shopping

A couple of years ago I mentioned that U2 guitarist the Edge had purchased the 140-foot Cyan yacht. In 2008, The Edge (born David Evans) and his wife Morleigh Steinberg, along with a few friends, bought the $18 million yacht and spent time in the south of France redecorating it. But The Edge has been on tour a lot and so he has listed the yacht for charter. It is listed for $200,000 a week through CharterWorld and cruises the Mediterranean.

The Cyan, previously Renalo was built in Italy by Codecasa Yachts of Italy in 1997. The yacht has six cabins with room for ten guests and space for ten crew members. The yacht has an aft sun deck and a Jacuzzi on deck. There is ample space for dining inside and out. The yachts master cabin has a king size bed, a large study, two walk-in closets, and his and hers bathrooms which share a Jacuzzi bath. All of the cabins have a TV, DVD and VCR and guest cabins are decorated in limed oak with marble tiled bathrooms.

Cruise Like Madonna & Harrison Ford Aboard the Mariner III

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Yachts & Sailing, Celebrity Shopping

Last month we told you about Johnny Depp's yacht being offered for charter this summer. If the $130,000 per week he's charging seems a bit steep, you can still cruise like a celebrity aboard the classic Mariner III (above) for a fraction of that price. The stylish 122-ft. fantail motor yacht, built in 1926, appealed to Harrison Ford so much that he used the craft as his personal quarters for three-and-a-half months while filming a movie in the Caribbean. Other stars who have chartered the classic cruiser include Madonna, Kate Winslet, Robert DeNiro, Bruce Willis and Brooke Shields, and she's also played host to several fashion shoots including the Victoria's Secret catalog. Now docked at New York City's Chelsea Piers in the summer months and the Palm Beach Yacht Club in winter, she's available for charter in New England, Southern Florida and the Caribbean at $30,000 a week. With rich varnished teak, gleaming brass, and hand crafted beveled lead crystal windows from Paris adorning the luxe interior, the yacht features seven staterooms plus quarters for a crew of six.

Charter the Mirabella V, The World's Largest Single Masted Yacht

mirabella v yacht

The sailing yacht Mirabella V is the largest sloop in the world: the single-masted vessel is 75-meters long (247 feet), and that mast also happens to be the world's tallest, with the world's largest sail attached to it. To give it some context, the mast, at 292 feet tall, is 80 feet too high to allow the Mirabella V to get under the Golden Gate bridge – or for that matter, any fixed bridge in the world.

Last year the seven-year-old Mirabella V was put up for sale for €49,000,000, and for the moment remains unsold. If you don't want to part with that much of your nest egg yet would still like to sample a sailboat with a hull deep enough to fit a double-decker bus, you can rent the sloop for $420,000 per week. That amount plus the 14 crew members will avail you and up to eleven other guests of six cabins, a gym, sauna, a 20-person jacuzzi and dipping pool, jet skis, ski boats, Lasers (masted dinghies), mechanized crow's nest and three R/C scale models of the very boat you're sailing on.

If you ever do need to get to land, there's also a 29-foot tender for the job – but as captain of the Mirabella V for a week, you're probably best letting land-lovers come to you...

Maltese Falcon Available for Charter at $500,000 / Week

Filed under: Yachts & Sailing, Wealth

maltese falcon
Last August we reported that he 289-ft. Maltese Falcon, the world's largest, best designed, and most expensive sailing superyacht, had changed hands for around $100 million. Now the incredible craft's new owner, Elena Ambrosiadou, Greek-born founder of hedge fund Ikos Partners, has given her new toy a makeover and is offering it for charter in the Mediterranean this summer at $500,000 per week. Ambrosiadou, the UK's highest-paid woman and its wealthiest female entrepreneur, has replaced the previous owner's awful contemporary art and bejeweled Bugatti sculptures with slightly less awful artwork. Even so it doesn't detract from the spectacular atrium where the three decks are united by a circular stairway surrounding the main mast creating a spiraling effect, enhanced by natural light cascading through transparent floors. The main deck is a wide open space featuring a main saloon, an enormous aft cockpit, two separate studio areas and a majestic dining room. The Maltese also now comes equipped with a gymnasium, two Segway scooters, and a full time on-board sports therapist / masseuse.
