Eric Slayton is a Brooklyn-based photographer and furniture designer who uses industrial wood-and-steel and concrete-and-steel to create around-the-house items. In the former department is his Blok series that includes the Solid Legged Blok Coffee Table (pictured), which uses Poplar taken from warehouse beams resting on water-cut steel supports. There are a few open-legged versions as well using natural and stained woods such as Cypress, Walnut, and Redwood, and a series of benches, too. David Stine Woodworking: The Art Of Listening To Wood

Furniture designer David Stine doesn't just design the tables, desks and other wood furnishings in his line, he selects every tree, mills every board and crafts each piece of furniture by hand to create a unique work of art. Stine harvests much of his high quality lumber from his family's own forests in Illinois. He mills the logs at his woodshop, basing his designs on what the wood reveals rather than the other way around. The process is akin to the way artisan gemcutters work with mineral rough, the piece is evaluated for size, angles, etc. so that the maximum beauty of the natural material is revealed. It's no surprise that his work has been featured in Forbes Life and other places and that his clientele includes writer and pundit Andrew Sullivan, Crate & Barrel owners Gordon and Carole Segal and actor and activist Michael J. Fox.

In addition to the limited edition pieces in his portfolio (check out the gallery below) clients may custom order furniture to their exact specifications. All pieces are hand crafted using traditional methods of joinery and construction and environmentally safe finishes. The pine cant bench shown above sells for $1,150.

Diamond Teak's Eco-Elegant Designs

Filed under: Decor, Events, Celebrity Shopping, Green

The VIP tent at the annual Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge in the Hamptons is always quite a scene, but this year attendees noticed the space was particularly plush. That's because Diamond Teak, one of the key sponsors at this year's event, furnished the VIP area with heirloom-quality pieces from its Spirit Song Collection (above). The company was founded by two Harvard grads, Kevin and Christine Yardley, who volunteered with the World Teach Organization in Costa Rica. They conceived of Diamond Teak as a way of bringing an entrepreneurial spirit to protecting the environment and boosting the local economy there. They now have over 12 Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) / Smartwood certified plantations, protecting over 1.000 acres of jungle terrain. Diamond Teak is an end result of this process - the finest teak wood furniture from the best wood hand-selected by master crafts people. The company has accrued a broad range of high-profile clients, including Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts, and Sarah Jessica Parker. The Spirit Song Collection's elegant curves mimic organic forms in nature, combining golden tropical hardwood with shimmering marine-grade stainless steel.

Eboniste Great Cities Side Tables

I love these simple and spare occasional tables from Eboniste. Named for cities and shaped from solid reclaimed elm, they celebrate the power of negative space. Each one has a distinctive shape like the hourglass Hollywood table shown here which much more generous curves than your average starlet. I can't decide if it would be too much or absolutely fabulous to pair this table with the outline vase, either way, these pieces bring major style to any decor. The tables start at $695.

Skram Furniture's Lineground Collection

The latest line from the popular furniture designers, skram is their lineground collection, a collection of solid wood furniture with a modern design created by Jacob Marks. The furniture is practical but full of simple flourishes that set it apart from other lines.

My favorite piece from the collection is this striking four-drawer sideboard which makes great use of negative space to create a striking silhouette. Prices start at $12,000. After the jump more pieces from this collection.

Enzo Bellini Butterfly Table

This simple and elegant wooden table is the work of Enzo Bellini, a Colorado-based designer who is passionate about woodworking. His furniture has a sculptural aspect to it and he seeks to create designs that are both functional and artistic. His butterfly dining table and chairs use plenty of flat planes which highlight the natural beauty of the wood used. Also check out the look of the chairs. Gone are the standard four legs. The chairs use a butterfly shape that mimics the table support, stabilized with a crosspiece of wood at the base. The side chairs are supported by a butterfly shape that bisects the chair vertically and the end chairs use the same piece only horizontally. It's details like this that make Bellini's pieces so interesting. The butterfly table starts at $15,000.
