Versace Eon Lady's Watch

Versace watches are made by the Timex Group under a licensing agreement. Thus, Timex is responsible for making interesting watches on par with the Versace image. That hasn't quite always worked out, but at the least most of their watches do bear the emblematic Versace medusa head. The newest watch out of the Versace watch line is the Eon, for women. The imagery is appealing, but what is the point? Laying flat on your wrist is the outer ring and watch face supposed to spin? It occurs to me that this watch is likely more fun to play with off, rather than on, one's wrist.

Aside from this mystery the double case look is interesting, reminding me of a globe of sorts. Materials used are rose gold plated stainless steel lined with diamonds on the bezel as well as used on the four present hour markers. The rear of the watch is supposed to hold the Versace medusa head, while the typical Roman architecture inspirted geometric patterns are engraved on the sides of the outer ring. The watch is attached to a satin strap and has a matching buterfly clasp. Inside will be a quartz movement. I expect price to hover around $3,000 if my senses are correct.

2009 Omega Constellation Watches For Women

I predict that the attractive women's version of the 2009 Omega Constellation watch is going to be a hit. Like the new men's Omega Constellation watch, the women's version has been updated, but also beautifully decorated. The best version are the pictures models with Omega's "supernova" pattern erupting from the "constellation star." Diamonds appoint the bezel and dial as hour markers and as part of the patterning. Still, the watch is highly legible and useful.

The Omega Constellation's seamless bracelet has been updated to be more comfortable - and is unique for having no gaps and being so smoothly flexible. The models come in three different sizes at 24, 27, and 31mm wide. Cases are in gold, two-tone, or stainless steel, and the dials comes in a variety of treatments. The nicest of which is in my opinion the pictured model. The 31mm wide models have an in-house Omega Co-Axial 8520/8521 movement, while the smaller versions come with a quartz movement or a smaller Omega Co-Axial 2500 movement. The Constellation line for women is a flashy but sensible watch for special occasions or a woman not keen on being predictable and getting a Cartier.

Research Shocker: Women Prefer Bentleys To Fords

bentley continental
Last year I saw a study that the sound of a luxury car engine aroused women and now there is a study that shows that the car makes the man when it comes to looks too. The Telegraph writes up a study that showed women pictures of the same man sitting in two cars, a silver Bentley Continental and a battered Ford Fiesta. Surprise, surprise the women, who were aged between 21 to 40, chose the man in the Bentley.

The research from Dr, Michael Dunn, of the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff, has been published in the latest edition of the British Journal of Psychology. His study also shows that men are more impressed by how a woman looks than what she drives. Dr. Dunn says that women still look for wealth and status because they are seeking a man in "better condition to rear healthy offspring." He says that this basic human trait is not likely to change even as women acquire more independence and wealth. Dr. Dunn, who drives an old Ford himself, will now do research to find out if luxury items help make up for "the attractiveness-diminishing effects of age."

Are women more shallow than men? Dr. Dunn's final quote for the Telegraph: "Let's face it - there's evidence to support it."

Orbita Sparta Mini Watch Winder For Women

orbita watch winder
Apparently watch winders were too masculine and needed a more feminine touch for the female watch lover. North Carolina based Orbita has just released a line of women oriented single watch winders, of course available in an array of colors. Unlike the more complex men's watch winder units, the Sparta Mini is 'plug and plug' with no settings to fiddle with - merely a once every 10 minutes rotation. The release marks the first time I am aware of that a company has catered to female owners of mechanical watches. The prior concept being that most women's watches were quartz (or hand-wound to a lesser degree). An apparently growing population of automatic mechanical watch owners who are female has spurred this new Orbita Sparta Mini line into existence.

Available colors on the wall-plug-in (as opposed to battery operated) device are crème, red, blue, pink and white. Each in faux lizard skin on plastic. Orbita promises that the device will not harm or over-wind any mechanical watch. Placing a watch in the unit is pretty straight forward by removing a foam cushion, placing on the watch on the cushion, and then returning the cushion to the device. Retail price is $295.

Rebecca & Drew Makes Custom Shirts for Women

Rebecca & DrewAs every professional woman knows, it is difficult to find the perfect fit in a button-down shirt. Men have it so easy, with entire franchises built around making sure their shirts fit well. Rebecca & Drew is working to change this double standard, and we have to say: they're doing a darn fine job!

The photo at right is from their adorable shop at 344 West 13th Street in New York City's West Village. I headed down there to see what all this buzz about "fit shirts" and "custom design" was. I was not disappointed!

For starters, the shirts have specially-placed buttons so that you never get that "from the left you can see my bra" effect. They come in two fits: "Soft and Smooth" and "Strong and Confident." From what I gather, this means "has a small waist" and "has less of a waist." The shirt sizes are based on that and bra size. Why haven't we been doing this all along?

Once you know your Rebecca & Drew size, you can order any of their items online and know that it will fit. And if you happen to order the wrong size your first time? They'll exchange it no problem -- they'll even pay the shipping.

Have a look through our gallery where I try on one of the fit shirts, explain how they work, and show you a couple of our favorite items. The basic Rebecca & Drew shirts are $195, $175 for short-sleeves. Get one here!

Why Women Smoke Cigars

Why do women smoke cigars? The reasons may differ from the reasons that men smoke them. Research conducted by the Association for Women Cigar Smokers in cooperation with Cigar Research found that 97% of men feel peaceful when smoking cigars but only 76% of women feel that way. Instead as Cigar Cyclopedia reports "women responded that they feel powerful (24%), attractive (25%), strong (15%), fun (43%), and rebellious (22%) when cigar smoking." Men reported these same feelings in lower numbers.

The survey also revealed that women are overwhelmingly brand loyal and that although they buy cigars online they also shop in stores where they feel welcome and are not treated as amateurs. They are also mostly not swayed by box or label design and 59% of the women surveyed said their motivation for smoking cigars was what I think is the best reason of all, the taste.

Naumi Hotel In Singapore Offers Women-Only Rooms

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

The Naumi hotel in Singapore has taken a step that seems to be becoming more and more popular, they have created a women-only floor. These rooms at the hotel will have designer amenities and female-only staff. The hotel has 40 suites and has there are five ladies-only suites. They are hidden behind a glass panel on one floor and accessed by a key card. The rooms have in-room cosmetic products including make-up remover and toner from Aesop and pink and gray wallpaper. The hotel's amenities such as the rooftop pool, restaurant and yoga/fitness studio do not have separate women-only areas. This is the first hotel in Singapore I've seen doing this but other hotels around the world in other major cities such as London also offer this. Rooms at the Naumi are priced at between $420 and $600.

The Sound of Luxury Cars Rev A Woman's Engine

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Men sometimes buy luxury cars partly based on the response from women. Now here comes the science to back up that behavior. British psychologist, David Moxon has performed a study for auto insurer Hiscox which says that the revving of a luxury car engine is sexually arousing to women. His research involved having 40 adults listen to recordings from Maserati, Lamborghini and Ferrari engines using the sound of a Volkswagen Polo for contrast. His team used saliva samples to measure the level of testosterone before and after listening to each car.

Moxon found that all the women had a significant increase in testosterone levels after listening to the Maserati engine but only half of the men marked an increase. By contrast the Volkswagen Polo led to a decrease in testosterone for some in the study. So maybe instead of putting on soft music when you want to get romantic you might want to try the throaty rumble of a Porsche instead.

More Luxury Bad News: High-Income Women Shopping Less

Women love to shop...it's like a law of nature or something. But it's no secret that lately the economy has been slowing down and the luxury market has been taking a hit -- high-income women may still love shopping but they're doing it a lot less. So how do luxury retailers plan to weather this storm? By making their products so compelling and irresistible that other purchases are put on hold to make room. High-end shoppers on a budget are not likely to trade down and start shopping at cheaper retailers, but instead they just become choosier with what they buy. In other words they may be buying less, but they're not stopping completely. So that awesome new handbag may have to yell a little louder to get attention, but it can still call your name like it always did.

If you ever have ever wanted to try out the Porsche Driving Experience but were perhaps intimidated by the thought of getting muscled out by the male participants in the driving school, you might want to clear out September 18 and 19 on your calendar. That's when the driving school is holding their Women Only event at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. The weekend includes classroom instruction as well as on-track sessions and off-road courses. And just because you like to drive fast doesn't mean you are not a girly girl. The weekend will also include a fashion show at the Ross Bridge Resort hotel and women drivers can also enjoy spa treatments, golf lessons and yoga and pilates classes.

First Ever Luxe "Chopard Ladies Floor" in Dubai Hotel

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

The ultra-swanky Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel has now created "an environment away from the male troubles of the everyday world," located on the fortieth floor of the hotel tower. This dedicated ladies-only floor is only serviced by female staff members and is comprised of 10 gorgeously appointed deluxe rooms, with such free amenities as over-sized duvets, pink satin bedding, silk kimonos, luxe Chopard bathing products, a stocked cosmetic fridge, and nightly turn down service by Chopard. Complimentary yoga mats and yoga DVDs are included in every room. When you are not luxuriating in bed upstairs, you can descend from your private oasis in the sky onto the chic bi-level, indoor shopping boulevard attached to the hotel. There, you will find trendy eateries and high-end shopping boutiques such as: Villa Moda, Bottega Venetta, YSL, Gucci, Armani, Sergio Rossi, Cartier, and Pucci to name a few. What's more -- the sister tower connected to the hotel by the shopping concourse -- houses the country's Presidential and Executive Offices; so don't be surprised if you find yourself mingling amongst Dubai's chicest sheiks! (This is even more of a reason to take advantage of the pampering available to you upstairs in your room.) Currently, the rack rates are approximately $635.00 per night, inclusive of tax, limousine airport transfers, and breakfast. Just a note -- kids under 12 are welcome but isn't it all about you this time?

Anthropologie Carriage Coat

When the days are short and the nights are long, it's hard not to want to bundle yourself into the warmest coat you can find and, even if you don't necessarily approve of wearing fur, you have to admit that the fur-wearers always look toasty. Anthropologie's Carriage Coat has the look of fur, but is synthetic. 'Tis the season to save some animals and still look stylish, right? Fortunately, the only thing that is noticeably unrealistic about this coat is that it lacks the faint animal smell of real fur. It feels wonderfully warm when draped around your shoulders and has a very flattering cut to it. Price: $218.

Gap Gets Inspi(Red)

We've mentioned (Red), a charitable effort designed to raise money for the Global Fund to support HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention in Africa, before when we took a look at an Armani watch that supported the cause. But there are a number of other companies and organizations involved and I popped into the Gap this week to take a look at what their (Red) collection. Everything actually looked very nice and it's hard to argue when 50% of the profits are going to such a worthwhile cause. My favorite item was the (PRODUCT)RED cashmere hoodie. Made of 100% cashmere, the slightly oversized hoodie was very plush and had a flattering cut, with contrasting topstiching and exposed seams. It comes in three colors, gray (pictured), cinnabar red (my favorite) and white. Price: $245.

Luxury Spending May Not Result in a Luxury Lifestyle

It seems that we have a disconnect between luxury goods and luxury living. Anne Metz, from Styledash, noted that a study by Jane Magazine found that women 20-29 spend almost 50% of their disposable income on luxury fashion items, including handbags, clothing, cosmetics and jewelry. Carlos Lamadrid, vice president and publisher of Jane, pointed out that many of these women are "children of the affluent baby boomers" and grew up expecting and appreciating luxury goods. 84% said that they had no problem with living beyond their budgets.

We hate to be the ones to break it to Mr. Lamadrid, but an appreciation of quality and style isn't worth all that much if you are living so far beyond your means that all of your "good taste" gets repossessed when you can't pay off your debt.
