Boston Wine Expo Celebrates 20th Year

Boston-area wine lovers are eagerly anticipating the 20th Anniversary Boston Wine Expo coming up this weekend, January 22-23, 2011 at the Seaport World Trade Center. This year's event includes the "Founding Chef" culinary series with celebrity chefs and local favorites Ming Tsai of Blue Ginger; Todd English of Olives, Figs and Kingfish; Jasper White of Jasper White's Summer Shack; Gordon Hamersley of Hamersley's Bistro; Michael Schlow of Radius, Via Matta and Alta Strada; Marc Orfaly of Pigalle and more.

The Boston Wine Expo also features keynote speaker Ray Isle, Executive Wine Editor of Food & Wine. The main event is the Grand Tasting showcasing over 300 international and domestic wineries pouring over 1,500 different wines. There is also an exclusive Grand Cru Wine Lounge, featuring high-end vintages; and a Seminar Series designed for all levels of wine enthusiasts. Tickets for the Grand Tasting are $110 each after that date and two-day tickets are $145. Grand Cru Wine Lounge ticket prices are $175. Seminar and other events are priced separately. Wine Stores Launches Twitter Tastings

Tonight marks the first in a series of "Twitter tastings" by wine store, Bin Ends. The tastings will feature famous wine personalities taking part in online tastings. that anyone can participate in. The tastings will take place on the third Thursday of each month at 7pm. For each tasting Bin Ends will sell a tasting pack. Tonight's pack of six bottles cost $100. The tasting will include comments from Ryan and Gabriella Opaz of the popular Spanish and Portuguese-centered wine site CataVino.

Bin Ends offers "fine wine bargains" for customers both in their Boston store and online. They use an automatic markdown system where every three weeks, anything still in stock gets marked down an additional 10%. Bin Ends offers free shipping nationwide on all orders of $200 or more.

American Airlines adding GrapeRadio

Want an education on wine while flying to your next business trip? If you are aboard American Airlines then tune into GrapeRadio -- a podcast for oenophiles. Featuring prominent members of the wine business as well as tasting and buying tips, etiquette and varietal reminders, it will be the first wine-specific programming available on an airline. Apparently, GrapeRadio has been broadcasting online for a few years and already has a healthy following of 20,000 listeners nationwide. So here's to learning something they don't teach you in business school that may help further your career just by flying and listening along.

Chateau Elan Vineyard Fest

You don't have to head to Napa to experience a wine festival at a vineyard this summer. Chateau Elan Winery and Resort is holding their 10th annual Vineyard Fest on Sunday August 27. The event includes tastings of over 100 domestic and international wines as well as food and the sounds of a jazz band. Tickets cost $50 for the day but the winery, in addition to making well-regarded Chardonnay, Riesling, Viognier and Merlot wines, is also a resort with a French country theme.  A Vineyard Fest winemaker and chef dinner package includes an overnight stay at the inn, a five-course dinner for two with wine service, buffet breakfast for two, two tickets to the Vineyard Fest and a bottle of Chateau Elan with a special label and costs $519.

Telluride Wine Festival

It may not be ski season but it's still gorgeous in Telluride, Colorado. The  25th Annual Telluride Wine Festival gives you chance to check out this ridiculously picturesque town in the month of June. The festival, which runs from June 22-25 includes winemaker's luncheons, a grand tasting held in Town Park, cooking demonstrations, the Toast of Telluride & Mountain Village, a Scotch and cigar tasting, and the Sunday brunch which is the festival finale. The guest chefs include Vitaly Paley, the owner of Paley's Place in Portland Oregon, Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson co-owner with Bobby Stucky of Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder, Colorado and Ana Sortun of Oleana in Boston. The Patron Package sells for $850 and includes priority seating at all festival events. Individual events are priced from $40 to $125.

Wine Tasting at Knowsley Hall

We could hardly think of a more scenic location for a wine tasting than Knowlsey Hall near Liverpool, England. The stately hall will be running a series of tasting events as through their new Gourmet Club. The Gourmet Club was launched at the start of this year as part of  Knowsley Hall's plan to attract a wider range of customers. Guests can sample fine wines from the private cellars of  wine merchants Willoughbys and discuss the wines with experts. The first tasting will be on May 11 and costs £15 for club members and £16.50 for non members.

New Orleans Wine and Food Experience

The great legacy of fine cuisine in New Orleans continues with the 15th annual New Orleans Wine and Food Experience. The event will be held in New Orleans on Memorial Day Weekend May 24 – 28, 2006 and is a five-day event, featuring culinary seminars, demonstrations, vintner dinners, and wine tastings. There will be a champagne brunch, and seminars including an interactive wine tasting musical that includes samples for the audience and a celebration of the famous muffaletta sandwich. The full package which includes six seminars, Friday and Saturday Grand Tastings, Royal Street Stroll and Bubbles and Brunch sells for $450.

Taste-In Wine Tastings

Decanter reports on a new London-based company that offers private in-home wine tastings. What makes Taste-In unique is that they have rounded up some of the   U.K.'s best known wine professionals to serve as hosts.  Hosts include Tim Atkin, the wine writer for the Observer; Michael Broadbent, who used to handle wine for Christie's and Joanna Simon who writes for the Sunday Times. A two-hour tasting starts with a glass of champagne followed by eight wines. The Classic tasting costs £1200 for 12 people. They can also provide bespoke tastings to deliver whatever your heart desires.

Southern Breeze Coastal Wine Tour

In our never-ending quest to find you beautiful places to drink wine and eat delicious foods, we bring you the Third Annual Southern Breeze Coastal Wine Tour which will be held May 19-21 in Orange Beach, Alabama. The multi-day event includes winemaker dinners, a wine tasting and seminars from Michael Bryan of the Atlanta Wine School on deciphering the language of wine. Chefs Philippe Parola and Tim Creehan will create original food demonstrations. On Sunday, the Walkabout Brunch is a chance to roam around from station to station, sipping champagne and sparkling white wines and loading up on seafood and regional favorite. Tickets for the Winemaker Dinners are $125 per person, The Grand Wine Tasting tickets are $45 in advance, $55 the day of and the Walkabout Brunch tickets are $35 in advance, $45 the day of. A Connoisseur package costs $225.

St. Michael's Food and Wine Festival

The Chesapeake Bay area offers all sorts of delicious food (crabs and oysters spring immediately to mind). The 4th Annual St. Michaels Food & Wine Festival April 27-30, which is being held at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum offers a chance to check out food and wine against a beautiful seaside backdrop. The festival pavilion will be home to wine tastings, demonstrations, book signings and food tastings. Events include a live wine, food and travel auction to benefit three charities and a champagne brunch on Sunday. Tickets start at $35 for a single day pavilion ticket.

Esprit du Vin

The eleven wineries along Highway 46 East  in  the Paso Robles area of California are holding their Esprit du Vin event this weekend, January 13 -15.  The Esprit du Vin grand event is held on Saturday night at the Robert Hall Winery and includes  a wine sensory tour, gourmet food, live music by the Big Daddy’s Blues Band and award-winning wines from the wineries of Highway 46 East and costs $60.
