Alexander McQueen's Take on Western, Handbag of the Day

I've mentioned Zappos Luxe Life before. Now and then I browse the store to see what's new in the Couture section, and recently I found a bag that I really like for fall. Usually Alexander McQueen is too way out for me, but I think this Western-inspired patent bag is great for the days when you break out the jeans and boots but want a nice bag to polish the look. The burgundy and gold bag is made of of patent leather. It's 14" wide across the bottom, 9.5" wide across the top, 5.5" deep and 10" high, enough room for wallet, keys, sunglasses, lipstick and personal technology. The handle drop is 5". Other features: a front exterior slip pocket, platform bottom, top zip closure and a luxurious interior lining with a back wall zip pocket and multifunctional slip pockets. Comes with a protective dust bag. $2,569; free shipping and returns from Zappos.

Boehm Bucking Bronco

Art is all about evoking emotions and feelings, and in some cases capturing a moment or an action that means something to somebody. And if this piece, the Boehm Bucking Bronco, doesn't capture action and emotion then I don't know what does. Of course it depicts very specific subject matter that may not appeal to everybody, but there's no denying how lifelike and detailed it is -- you can almost hear the horse snorting just by looking at it. Handcrafted and hand-painted porcelain in shades of brown, tan and white, it measures 26"H x 20"W x 22"D. $20,000

Ryan Green Stallion Belt

The Stallion Belt by Ryan Green has just enough of a western edge to pair well with cowboy boots without being too "western." Adding it to a dressier look can also have a softening effect, adding a natural accent. The 1.5-inch thick belt sits around the hips and has a very unique buckle with a horse design laser engraved onto natural cherry wood. The buckle is removable and can be changed to other belts, as well. The belt itself comes in both black and brown. Price: $45.

Dior Gaucho Double Saddle Bag, Handbag of the Day

The Dior Gaucho Double Saddle Bag is definitely an eye-catcher. Not only is the bag a hot item this season due to its charming vintage western look, but to its flashy antiqued silver hardware and accessories. Each bag has two pairs of "1947" Christian Dior medallions and large old-fashioned keys dangling from both the front buckle and the strap. 1947 is a significant year for the designer because it marks the debut of the very first Dior collection, a collection which introduced the "New Look" of tight waists and long, fitted skirts. Getting back to the Gaucho, the flaps of the bag lift up to reveal interior compartments on either side of the purse, including a pocket just the right size for a cell phone, and seal with magnetic clasps. The bag is available in both dark red and in white, which has more noticeable contrast stitching on the soft, washed calfskin leather. Price: $1,995.

Be & D Chocolate Western Flap Satchel

Any leather bag that is chocolate colored is worth taking a look at. Chocolate brown not only sounds good, evoking the flavor of everyone's favorite indulgence, but the color is versatile. It goes with whites on a hot summer day and dark blues, or even black, at night. Be & D handbags are big right now and this Western Flap Satchel is a slightly toned down style from some other western bags. In soft chocolate leather with tarnished golden hardware, the bag has a well-loved, vintage look and measures a very roomy 16"H x 10"W x 6"D. The old-fashioned tarnished gold keys that dangle from the shoulder strap are a great accent. Price: $1,125..

Etro Western Floral Pony Satchel

Western is hot, especially when it comes to shoes and handbags. Bags with buckles are still at the top of the fashionista's must-have list, though, so the fusion of the two trends would create the perfect bag. At least, that's what the designers at Etro were telling themselves. They have a penchant for pushing the limits of design, so it is no surprise that they came up with the Western Floral Pony Satchel. The busy bag is soft brown snakeskin leather, glazed red in spots and embossed with flowers, trimmed with a spotted pony pattern. It is adorned with antiqued silver spurs, studs and buckles, accented with yellow leather ribbons and has a purple satin interior. I can't make up my mind as to whether I love it or hate it, but I definitely can't tear my eyes away. Price: $1,450.
