White + Warren Gets Into the Handbag Business

Cashmere maker White + Warren has jumped on the handbag bandwagon with two neutral styles. Today we highlight The Hemp Traveler, a weekender bag. This practical bag (except for the color -- I see it getting dirty, quickly), has a hemp exterior and genuine pebble leather trim, and is fully lined with protective nylon. Also: detachable interior zip pouch for everyday essentials, five interior compartment pockets, interior and exterior zip pockets, a detachable shoulder strap, metal feet, and a detachable leather id tag/card holder. Although considered a weekender bag, the way handbag styles are headed in my neck of the woods (big, bigger, gigantic), this could just as easily be a city girl's daytime bag or commuter bag. 22" x 13" x 8", $595.

White Elephant Chef and Shop on Nantucket

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

The island of Nantucket off the coast of Massachusetts is often seen as a summer destination but as someone who grew up on Cape Cod I can attest to the fact that the fall can be one of the best times to visit the island. Here's a reason to visit, the White Elephant is holding their third annual Chef and Shop series beginning October 26th. The series runs four weekends and each weekend, a new premier chef from New York, Boston, or New Orleans will visit the hotel to mingle with guests and give a demonstration and tasting with paired wines on Saturday afternoon on the heated Harborview Terrace overlooking the Nantucket Harbor. The four chefs are Alexandra Guarnaschelli of Butter in New York, Dan Silverman of Lever House in New York, Geoff Gardner of Sel de la Terre in Boston, and Bob Iacovone of Curvee in New Orleans. The hotel includes a library with a fireplace, morning coffee and danish, exercise room, an afternoon Port and cheese reception and in-room spa treatments. Rates start at $175 per room, per night

Dream Getaways That Can Happen in A Weekend

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

Although 2 week vacations are awesome the trouble is that it's often so hard to get away that they rarely (if ever) happen. But why delay that trip to Paris or Buenos Aires til who-knows-when? A long weekend, which is much easier to do for most people, can be more than enough to have a fabulous time in an exotic far-off location if you do things right. Vienna, Milan, and even Sydney are realistic possibilities. Why take the chance that a trip to your dream location might never happen when you can be there later this month? 1, 2, or 3 nights is better than none at all, right? I'd say so.

Tano Smooch Bag, Handbag of the Day

In a glossy, rich red color that suits its name, the Smooch Bag by Tano adds more than a little flair to any outfit. In fact, the funky handbag is a great alternative to the more plain-jane daily totes that so many women carry, though you might want to save it for weekend outings, rather than bring it in to the office. The large leather tote has a soft and slightly deconstructed look. It has a huge exterior pocket, accented with silver buttons, and diagonal seams that set it apart from more plainly designed bags. With a short drop from the comfortable strap, the tote tucks neatly under your arm and is easy to carry. Price: $218.

Kate Spade Hobby Picnic Tote

As fun as the gardening and book totes are, with their respective detailing of tools and eyeglasses, Kate Spade's Hobby Picnic Tote is just a little more fun. Perhaps it is the changing season that gets me thinking about picnics and outdoor activities, but it doesn't hurt that the bag has an appealing shadow screenprint of a knife, spoon and fork on the side. Made of red cotton with a bright yellow leather trim, the open-top tote has enough room to hold picnic supplies or everyday items, so you will always have to option to bring a little bit of the weekend in to the office with you on Monday. Price: $245.

Loius Vuitton Speedy 30

The Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 is the sort of bag that begs to be taken along on a jet-setting summer holiday. The roomy bag is just the right size to hold a change of clothes and a bathing suit for an overnight trip. In an update of the more stately Speedy 25 bag, designer Marc Jacobs has given the purse vivid pink and orange microfiber lining that can be seen through perforations on its exterior front and side pockets. The monogrammed canvas is trimmed in kidskin leather with comfortable, rolled leather handles. Price $1,200.
