Christian Bale Wears Harry Winston Watch At Academy Awards

Chistrian Bale Wears Harry Winston Watch At Academy Awards
Actor Christian Bale received the award for Best Supporting Actor at the 2011 Oscars for his role in "The Fighter." His winning speech was of the more lively you could say - with rambling a aplenty. I am happy the Academy decided to let speeches go long this year as the "meat" of the show is packed in this often amusing/embarrassing unscripted content. Bale was himself, proving to audiences that his real personality is far less composed and reserved than his on-screen persona might suggest (though perhaps his famous rant was more telling of that). Though I was barely listening given that I was staring at his unshaven maw as though the closest thing to a shaving razor had was a lawn mower. What was up with facial hair as the Oscars this year?

What I also barely noticed was the Harry Winston Ocean Dual Time watch on his wrist. In an Ocean style case, the watch has two dials for the time, a small subsidiary seconds dial, a day/night indicator, a big date indicator, and a moon phase indicator. Interesting that this was Bale's choice, I like seeing men's Harry Winston watches getting more celeb wrist time. It would have been awesome to see him wearing one of their Opus collection timepieces.

Tiret Watch For Kanye West, With His Face On It

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Celebrity Shopping

Tiret has a nice little thing going for itself when it comes to high-status celebs who want some of them, on their wrist. I previously wrote about a watch that Tiret made for Usher here. The same concept (but done differently) was applied to a watch for musician Kanye West. You have the same oblong "Second Chance" watch case design, in 18k yellow gold. Coming with a gold bracelet or reptile strap, Kanye seems to be enjoying his (as he seems to wear it a lot).

The watch dial features two Swiss quartz chronograph movements. So you have two times, two chronographs, etc... The real allure is in all the jewel work. Tiret claims it took them over five months to create the dial. The dial itself is in gold toned mother-of-pearl, with a combo of white, yellow, brown, and black diamonds. The bezel is lined with very large diamonds as well. The watch is said to have a total of about 8 carats of stones. Kayne's face has been immortalized on the dial - complete with sunglasses. Retail price for this is said to be about $180,000, and is custom made specially for each client.

Custom Tiret Watch For Usher, With Usher

Hip-hop musical artist Usher commissioned a special one of a kind watch from New York based jeweler and watch maker Tiret. The Usher watch has an oblong oval shaped case (in an undisclosed material that is likely gold) with a diamond designed portrait of Usher on the dial. Containing two Swiss ETA chronograph quartz movements, the watch technically can tell the time in two places. Given the lack of indicators the chronograph mechanisms are more or less worthless, but the point of this pieces is giving Usher the ability to look at himself as though he were made up of diamonds. How many people really get that privilege?

Using all natural stones, the watch has almost 10 carats of diamonds on it and 1106 stones all over the watch. Look at the size of the diamonds on the bezel! Diamonds include white as well as naturally yellow diamonds. Tiret says that the watch was recently featured in a diamond exhibit at the Natural History Museum in London - where other high-end diamond decorated watches were displayed. While not mechanically complex, the special Tired watch for Usher is an interesting look into the life of Usher, and at the types of products that Tiret makes. According to them, the brand only makes custom timepieces and jewelry at this time. Usher is said to have paid $250,000 for the bespoke timepiece.

Usher, a known owner of several watches, does not claim to be a serious watch enthusiast. He prefers the showiness of timepieces as well as the jewelry component. Actually, given many of the watches that Usher has, this Tiret is of the most showy. Usher seems to prefer more classic mechanical timepieces with a masculine edge to them. The box that Tired supplied the Usher watch in doubles as a humidor for 78 cigars and also has a motif of Usher's face on it.

Recent Crazy Night For Charlie Sheen Leads To Lost Patek Philippe Watch

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Celebrity Shopping

Charlie Sheen discovered his Patek Philippe watch was missing and tore apart his hotel room at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. A known watch collector with millions of dollars worth of watches, Charlie Sheen was lividly trying to locate his hard-to-get Patek Philippe Ref. 5970 watch. Collectors love the classic high-end Patek with a chronograph, perpetual calendar, and moon phase indicator. It is worth well over $100,000.

The media calls it a "Sheen Meltdown," but he was really just looking for his timepiece that went missing on October 28th. The story goes deeper, though. Sheen blamed his "date" that night Capri Anderson for taking the watch. The two apparently met earlier in the night and ended up back at Sheen's hotel room where things got a bit out of control. Drugs and alcohol are obviously implicated - and Capri is said to have quickly become afraid of the 45 year old actor before locking herself into a bathroom. Forget the girl, at this point Charlie couldn't find the watch. Later taken to a hospital, Sheen's Patek was still on the loose. Does the porn star have it? The bell hop? Someone else? Sources are unclear about the events that led Anderson to Sheen's hotel room, and there have been suggestions that he was back to his old ways of paying for sex. Let's just hope that Sheen didn't inadvertently hock the watch at a pawn shop to pay for Capri's "fee."

Despite the media fiasco, I just feel bad for Charlie. When you are a watch lover, and have a timepiece that rare, you'd scour the earth to get it back if lost.

Seal Wears His Parmigiani Watch In "Secret" Music Video

Seal released the single named "Secret" along with a corresponding music video - which are part of his upcoming new album called "Commitment."The artfully filmed black & white video has Seal and his wife Heidi Klum in intimately in bed, wearing almost nothing. One thing that Seal is wearing however is a custom Swiss Parmigiani Kalpa timepiece made specially for him. You can see the custom tourbillon watch clearly in a few scenes in the music video. If you go to the "READ MORE" link below, you can see the video.

The custom watch is based on the Parmigiani Kalpa XL Tourbillon, but with a metal bracelet, and I believe a few other changes. An image of the standard model in rose gold is below. The watch case is 44.7mm tall and 37.2mm wide. It has the time, a power reserve indicator, a tourbillon. Seal is a well known watch lover, as is his wife. Seal is also known to have an existing large collection of Parmigiani timepieces.

Alex Rodriguez Gets Hublot Watch In Celebration Of 600 Home Runs

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Sports

35 year old star Yankee player Alex Rodriguez (A-Rod) entered a very small club of baseball players over the summer when he hit his 600th home run. That also made him the younger baseball player in history to reach the 600 home run mark. To celebrate this achievement, Hublot - in cooperation with Manfredi Jewels - awarded Rodriguez with a limited edition Hublot watch recently. A Rod received a Big Bang King Power Black Magic watch that comes in a 48mm wide ceramic bezeled case. It has a complex split second chronograph movement with a power reserve indicator as well as an exposed column wheel on the dial that is part of the chronograph mechanism. The watch is limited to just 500 pieces and is a luxury timepiece by all accords. See Alex wearing the watch in the image next to that of the timepiece.

Brad Pitt Enjoys Wearing His Patek Philippe Nautilus Watch

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Celebrity Shopping

Brad Pitt, known watch lover, has a seriously intense watch collection. From the timepiece I've heard he buys (and at the frequency he does so), he must have a very large collection. Enough so that each of his kids are likely going to get a sizable timepiece inheritance someday.

Here is Brad wearing his Patek Philippe Nautilus timepiece while doing work with the Make It Right project in New Orleans . This watch debuted in the late 1970s, and came about when luxury steel sport watches really became en vogue. Today's Nautilus watches comes in a few varieties, but Brad likes his in the classic style with a steel case and bracelet, with a blue face, and a three-hand Patek Philippe made automatic movement. Like all Patek Philippe movements, it is beautifully made and decorated - and visible here through a sapphire exhibition caseback window. I like how Brad matched the blue dial with his shirt. The watch is 43mm wide and in all steel except for the while gold hands and hour markers - which are applied.

The Nautilus is an interesting piece - and took a little while for me to appreciate. What really sold the watch for me a few years back was seeing it on the wrist. As you can see, it has a very masculine, flattering look on the wrist. The specific reference number for this piece is 5711/1A, and retails for about $23,000.

Heidi Klum Wears Diamond Encrusted Panerai Luminor Marina Watch

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Celebrity Shopping

I am not sure exactly what model Panerai Luminor Marina watch this is - but it doesn't really matter because Panerai doesn't sell this diamond studded model. This highly diamond encrusted Panerai watch has been seen on Heid Klum's wrist and is more than likely the product of some aftermarket jewelry work. The standard Panerai Luminor Marina case and steel metal bracelet have been redone with dozens and dozens of sparkly diamonds. With a base price of some where between $7,000 - $10,000, tens of thousands or more dollars went into this special modification. Many people perform such modifications to increase the value of their timepieces, as well as ensure that no one else in the building will be wearing the same timepiece.

Klum is known fine watch lover, and typically has a penchant for those timepieces that have precious jewels on them. The last watch I saw on her was an Hublot Tutti Frutti in green with emeralds. The Panerai is a large watch being at least 44mm wide. Large for most female wrists, but Heidi is able to pull it off nicely. Interesting that she wears the watch on her right arm.
