What's Awesome at Christie's: Japanese Weapons

Filed under: Auctions, Art, Men's Style

A mean game of frisbee.Did you know that Christie's has an Arms and Armor section? And that it's totally fascinating?

You film buffs will be in heaven. These are the beautiful weapons you dreamed of wielding after watching Kurosawa.

This, at right, is a kinko tsuba (not that kind of Kinko's). A "tsuba" is the tip/guard at the end of the grip of a Japanese sword. We'd like to see one on a kitchen knife. Bam! What? Just for a minute!

FYI, Kinko means "imprisonment" or "vault" in Japanese, and it's also a town in Kagoshima. Kinko's, the FedEx-owned corporate dandelion, was named in the 1970's for its founder's curly ("kinky") hair according to Wikipedia. Only in the 70's folks. Seriously.

Back to awesome weaponry, here are Luxist's picks for the most fabulous Japanese Weapons from Christie's:

The Ultimate Secure Home

The Ultimate Secure Home is a fascinating estate located in the mountains of Southwestern Colorado. The house runs off solar power and is just over 2,400-sq feet, with 2 baths, 4 bedrooms and a loft, in addition to kitchen, pantry, safe room and an additional 800-sq ft garage. It is made of steel-reinforced concrete and its dome structure is designed to withstand earthquakes of up to a magnitude of at least 7.0, as well as just about any other disaster - natural or otherwise. The rock exterior is artificial and fire-resistant and the house has a Luwa air filter that is capable of filtering out war chemicals, all known viruses, all known bacteriological agents, radioactive fallout, and even smoke from a forest fire.

Inside, it needs a little design work, but the appliances are up-to-date and energy efficient. The house is on a 4.3 acre parcel and is offered for sale for $495,000.

As part of the home's security, the exact location will only be revealed to "serious, pre-screened, and financially pre-qualified prospective buyers at an appropriate time." Hopefully, that time is sometime before move-in.

The house and its 4.3 acre parcel are currently offered at only $475,000 ($20,000 below appraised value). Or $495,000 for the house with a 4.38 acre boundary adjusted parcel. The adjoining vacant 3 acre parcel is also for sale.

Weapons for Fashionistas

Antonio Riello is a designer with an eye for luxury and, with this line of Ladies Weapons he blended elegant touches that are normally reserved for upscale accessories with accessories of, well, war. Using real military-issue weapons such as the American M-16, Italian Beretta, Israeli UZI and German HK 33, he adds furs, leather, jewels and bright colors to create pieces that are "hybrids born from Italian obsession for high fashion as well as for violence" for "wives of mafia bosses, arms dealers [and] sophisticated ladies."

Sophisticated ladies who need their axe, guns and grenades with them, of course.
