Barbour Waxed Cotton New Utility Jacket

barbour waxed cotton jackets
For its Spring / Summer collection which we previewed back in March, famed British clothing company Barbour has come out with an updated version of its classic waterproof waxed jacket. While this time of year usually calls for seersucker, the weather just isn't co-operating so waterproofs are de rigeur. The New Utility jacket (above), part of the company's Contemporary line, features slimmer proportions, cargo-style pockets and a smaller collar. Lined in classic Barbour Tartan, the jacket is made of the company's classic mediumweight 6 oz. Barbour Sylkoil waxed fabric. Barbour, which was founded in 1894 and holds Royal Warrants from Queen Elizabeth II, The Duke of Edinburgh, and The Prince of Wales, is further expanding on tradition with artfully updated designs like this one.

Things to Consider When Buying a Waterproof Watch

In the market for a waterproof watch? You may have trouble finding one, considering few watches (if any) are truly and completely waterproof, and are in reality only water resistant. Water resistance is a term that can mean anything from "withstands minor splashing" to "submersible up to 100 meters," to any number of other definitions. So before you take your $5000 "water-resistant" watch into the swimming pool you may want to check on some details. Maybe it can go cannon balling with you or maybe it should stay sitting safely by your beach towel and flip flops -- either way it's something worth knowing.

SoundTile Speakers for the Shower

You could go with one of those little waterproof clock radios with a handy hanging hook in your shower and have that wonderful "slightly staticky and not-even-in-stereo" sound to get you pumped up during your morning routine, or you could choose these, SoundTile loudspeakers for the shower.

From Kohler in conjunction with Polk Audio, in addition to being designed to match Kohler's WaterTile bodysprays and showerheads, the SoundTile speakers are coaxial models, marine certified, with stainless steel front grills that let sound through while keeping water out. Pretty nifty.

They are available in pairs, and depending on the finish you choose start at $295.

Waterproof Cell Phone

While new cell phones are always fun because we love gadgets, ruining them when a friend/coworker/etc. spills his or her morning latte all over it is somewhat less than satisfying. Sony Ericcson has managed to eliminate that inconvenience by releasing a completely waterproof cellphone in Japan. The SO902iWP+ even receives calls underwater - although you can't actually speak into the phone that way. The phone also comes with an mp3 player and a 1.3 mega pixel camera. There is no word on whether it will be released in the US, but this would be the perfect phone to take on vacation, especially if you're going somewhere that you'll be spending a lot of time in the water, like a tropical resort.

Aquavision Waterproof TVs

Did you ever take a small, portable TV (probably of the variety that always got horrible reception) into the bathroom and set it up on a TV tray so you could watch Seinfeld (or other show) while taking a bath? Don't lie, of course you did. Baths are relaxing, but dull, and having something to watch while you enjoy the water and bubbles makes the experience perfect.

Aquavision TVs are designed to work in the one space where televisions, not to mention most electronic devices, have been traditionally unable to go: places with water. This means that can be used in the bathroom, shower, sauna, kitchen or any other place where they might be in a moist or humid environment.

All Aquavision TVs have heated screen areas to prevent the front misting up in humid conditions or even freezing up in cold conditions, and come with a floating, waterproof remote control. The super-slim units blend seamlessly into the wall and come in a variety of sizes (up to 40") and finishes, including a "mirror-vision" option that turns the screen into a mirror when not in use.

It goes without saying that they offer a significantly better picture than those old portable TVs, too.
