Girard-Perregaux 1966 Tourbillon 220th Anniversary Limited Edition Watch

Simple tourbillon watch lovers are probably thrilled with the offerings this year. Many brands are releasing uncomplicated (relatively speaking), classic tourbillon based watches - and here is Girard-Perregaux's entry. The watch is meant to celebrate the 220th anniversary of the brand that began in 1791. They call it the 1966 Tourbillon with Gold Bridge 220th Anniversary Edition watch - it looks lovely in a 40mm wide 18k gold case with a warm dial with blued steel hands and Breguet style Arabic numerals. The tourbillon has a bit of a unique look with one of Girard-Perregaux's iconic "golden" bridges over the tourbillon. Extremely classic and handsome. The movement is the in-house made GP 9610 that is manually wound and has 48 hours of power reserve. On the back of the watch are some special commemorative engravings for this special Anniversary Edition watch. Girard-Perregaux will produce just 50 1966 Tourbillon 220th Anniversary edition pieces - look for them soon.

Piaget Launches Limelight Garden Party Collection

Piaget Limelight Garden Party Collection RingWith a series of events that included the Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, a Champagne toast at their New York boutique, and an outdoor celebration in Palm Beach, Piaget launched their spring-themed Limelight Garden Party collection.

In New York, the Piaget boutique on Fifth Avenue took on a terrarium look for the evening's event, with the collection set in cases decorated to look like a wood nymph's jewelry box.

Cradled amongst the various faux flora, 18-white gold pieces sparkled under the display lights.

A miniature, diamond-encrusted bird perched itself on a ring, seemingly ready to dip its beak into a cushion-cut rubellite gem. Other birds perched on a white gold sprig of diamonds and pearls, while a floral ring bloomed diamonds, emeralds and pink sapphires. One necklace's 289 brilliant-cut diamonds seems to represent drops of dew caught on a diaphanous spider web. Another sprouted buds of pink tourmaline and pink sapphires, reminders that spring is, finally, here at least.

Bremont BC-Solo Watch

British watch brand Bremont offers a more affordable watch for their collection for 2011 with the BC-SOLO. Based on the design of their Martin Baker and U2 watches, the BC-SOLO is a purists' style aviator watch that retains the signature Bremont case look and function with a clean aviation instrument themed dial. The BC-SOLO will arrive this summer and come in a 43mm wide trip-tick constructed case with a sapphire exhibition back to see the movement. Inside is a modified base Swiss ETA automatic.

The BC-SOLO is an easy to love watch with a clear dial. I only wish that the hands were a bit longer. The case will come matched to a black or brown leather strap and be available starting in July. Price will be $3,950.

Union Glashutte Belisar Big Date Carbon Fiber Dial Watch

You'd think with a design this slick Union Glashutte could have named the watch something a bit more elegant. It scares me to think how long it will take to pronounce the title when it is translated into German. Too bad Swatch Group owners Union Glashutte is hard or impossible to find in the US. If so, then this Big Date with Carbon Fiber Dial version of their Belisar would be a sporty and appealing piece.

At 41mm wide the case is in steel (water resistant to 100 meters), with PVD coated black side panels and a sporty perforated leather strap (that is well-integrated into the case design). The dial is easy to read with applied hour markers and well-sized hands. They are also coated with SuperLumiNova under the AR coated sapphire crystal. Inside the watch is an ETA 2896 big date automatic movement - which is thin and has a great layout. I just am really impressed by the no-BS good looking design that isn't boring, but it still easy to live with. Price is set to be 1,950 euros. Look for this Union Glashutte watch soon.

Hanhart Pioneer Collection MonoControl Watch

Watch brands use any number of terms to specific that they intend their watches to be retro homages. You see terms like "classic." or "vintage," or "original." For this "old watch inspired" collection Hanhart uses a more creative name with the "Pioneer Collection." Now that sounds friendly enough, right? The 2011 Hanhart Pioneer Collection will have three timepieces, my favorite being this MonoControl watch. The name refers to the fact that it has a mono-pusher chronograph - that uses a single pusher to cycle through the start, stop, and reset functions.

Other models in the Pioneer collection include two similarly designed (without the rotating coined edge bezel) bi-compax chronograph watches with two chronograph pushers (called the Pioneer TwinControl and TwinDicator). The MonoControl has a base Swiss ETA Valjoux 7750 movement that Hanhart themselves modifies for the layout and mono-pusher system. The steel case is 42mm wide with a rotating bezel and silver or black colored dial with SuperLumiNova on the hands and Arabic hour numerals. I love the vintage pilot watch theme. At first glance this watch could easily be a Tutima. Though that little red cap on the chronograph pusher tells you it is a Hanhart. Look for it soon.

RSW Outland Round Watch For 2011

For 2011 RSW gives the Outland watch range a round case - well sort of. The case itself is round, but the large, broad lug structure remains similar to that on the square dialed version. I'll have to wait until I get one on the wrist for a final assessment, but I think the design is neat, especially the pictured version that is a chronograph version of the Outland 3H. "3H" stood for three hands, so is the chronograph going to be called the 5H? Who knows. It might just be the Outland Chronograph. There is also a round cased version of the original RSW Outland watch that tells the time via rotating discs versus hands.

The case is steel and can be had PVD coated black. You can also get a gem-set version (though I have no idea why you'd want to with a design like this). I love the chronograph with its digital style numerals and bold design. The disc based version might just be weirder than the original, and fans of the design might just love that.

Frederic Jouvenot Solar Deity Collection Watches

One of my favorite independent watch maker pieces of the year is the Helios by Frederic Jouvenot - which I fully profile with video here. I recently learned that the Helios will be part of a set of watches Frederic Jouvenot called the "Solar Deity Collection." The pieces are based around a "sun center" with the middle of the watch having a minute indicator and the sun rays being the hour indicators. In addition to the DLC black coated titanium model (the Helios), there is a polished steel (or titanium) model (known as the Amaterasu) as well as a women's model (in steel or white gold) with diamonds and a flower motif on the dial (known as the Suryia). The collection is really spectacular with each of the pieces having a distinct personality and appeal.

The names of the Suryia and the Amaterasu are of Japanese origin. Frederic Jouvenot gave the watches Japanese names in honor of the Japanese people and their bravery during the tough times they have endured now and may have to ahead.

Harley Davidson x Bell & Ross Bespoke Superbike

Harley Davidson x Bell & Ross Bespoke Superbike
Bell & Ross watches and the UK's leading Harley-Davidson customizer have teamed up on a bespoke superbike inspired by Bell & Ross' beautiful timepieces. The Nascafe Racer modified by Shaw Harley-Davidson applies Bell & Ross' principles of impeccable performance, precision and engineering. The way that the master watchmakers develop and assemble their timepieces was reflected by the Shaw Harley-Davidson master technicians when building the bike, which is based on the "long, low and naked" Harley-Davidson FXSTB Softail Nightrain.

To begin with the motorcycle was totally stripped down to every last nut and bolt. The Shaw Speed and Custom team then mounted a Bell & Ross BR 01 Carbon timepiece in a handcrafted center console using a machined section of aluminum. A combination of anodized blue, carbon and stealth-like matte black custom paint was then used on the bike to reflect the watch's design, along with Bell & Ross logo detailing. The compelling creation was unveiled at the London International Custom Bike Show.

Eberhard & Co. Chrono 4 Geant Titanium Limited Edition Watch

Eberhard & Co. Chrono 4 Géant Titanium Limited Edition Watch
I've always liked these chronograph watches from Eberhard & Co. that have four small chronograph subdials in a horizontal row on the lower half of the dial. They function just like a normal chronograph, with the additional subdial being used as a synchronized 24 hour hand for AM/PM indication purposes. The movement of course also has the time and the date. It is a special module done by Eberhard & Co. on top of a base Swiss ETA 2894 automatic chronograph movement. The layout makes this watch feel like a much more impressive "instrument" compared to most other sport watches.

Bell & Ross Vintage Original Carbon Watches

Bell & Ross Vintage Original Carbon Watches
More nice watches from Bell & Ross for 2011- with sort of silly names. The word game jumble continues. We had "Vintage and Heritage" used a lot. Now "Original" joins the mix with this new Bell & Ross Vintage Original Carbon. Come on Bell & Ross, isn't "vintage original" a bit of a silly redundancy. That would be like calling a watch "dark black." Anyhow, these new Vintage 123 and 126 models come in a 41mm steel case with a black PVD coating, and good looking matte black dial. To be honest, I am not 100% sure what is new about these 2011 pieces over the 2010 pieces aside from the brown calf leather strap. What I liked in 2010, I still like now.

Christophe Claret 21 Blackjack Watch For Casino Game Lovers

Christophe Claret 21 Blackjack Watch For Casino Game Lovers
This is no ordinary super high-end watch made in honor of gambling games. This is a Christophe Claret watch made in honor of gambling games. His new watch for 2011 is the 21 Blackjack, and is the third watch with his name on it. All the images of the watch aren't released yet.

Massively complicated, the 21 Blackjack has a brand new Christophe Claret movement in it called the BLJ08. It has 501 hand finished parts and two barrels with a 72 hour power reserve. But what really matters is that in addition to the time it lets you play three games. Which games? I am not 100% sure how they will all work, but it will be blackjack, dice, and roulette. The dice game is on the side of the case (which probably has a mechanical dice toss randomizer), and there are images of cards on disc under the smoky sapphire dial. You can probably play blackjack with yourself and the watch is the dealer. You can now lose money to a watch you'll probably have to spend well over half a million dollars for. If you like, you can get the dial as a solid piece of onyx with windows for the game indicators.

Franc Vila Selenity Master Quantième Automatique Watch

Franc Vila Selenity Master Quantième Automatique Watch
For women folk Franc Vila offers up a new watch that again uses their "Cobra" case. With a typical long winded name, the Franc Vila Selenity Master Quantieme Automatique contains a Swiss Dubois Depraz automatic annual calendar with moon phase movement. The real draw are the dials, which are done in various colors of mother-of-pearl in different "frames" to make up almost art deco style designs. They come out looking pretty neat.

As you can see, the large steel case is offered with optional diamond decor on the inner bezel as wel as for the two screws on the bezel. On the back of the case is a view to the gold rotor for the automatic movement. The straps are available as either purple or pink alligator. While large sized for many women, Franc Vila does offer an interesting concept and shape that looks flattering on the wrist.

Fortis B-47 Big Black Watch

Fortis B-47 Big Black Watch
Fortis sometime ago realized that black"stealth" watches make no sense if they aren't fun, and aren't legible. For that reason Fortis is commonly known to have all black watches with white hands. This new B-47 Big Black model uses that concept for a new bold looking limited edition timepiece.
