Lux Tip: Wall Decor

Big empty walls getting you down? If you haven't found the perfect tapestry or can't get your Monet back from the Art Institute of Chicago, you've still got to put something on your wall to make it feel like home.

Get down to the local thrift store. Look through the art they have there. It's not likely to be any good, but you might get lucky; in any case, what you're looking for is the frames. In fact, the more horrendous the art, the better, because it's likely to be cheaper!

Get a couple vintage-looking frames and toss the prints of angels and hippie landscapes. If the frames are looking shoddy, spray paint them! A nice glossy black is very chic on a carved frame, or you can just do a touch up with gold paint or a nice stain. What to put inside? We don't recommend you try your own hand at painting--not for your wall. Why not get some cool paper from Papyrus or your local paperie, or frame an interesting piece of fabric?

It's just another easy way to make life more lux for cheap or free.

Damien Hirst Inspired Wall Treatment

Even if you're not able to afford an actual Damien Hirst on your wall, you can have a decorating scheme that includes an entire wall inspired by his art for a much more reasonable investment. Polka dots make for a whimsical and upbeat wall treatment in the form of dot decals. Each Sweet 16 package from blik includes 16 Damien Hirst inspired dots of all different colors (with fun names like lemon, cotton candy pink and kiwi) for putting up in a grid pattern or any other way you like (confetti explosion perhaps?). The Sweet 16 cannot be custom ordered, but if you're inspired to make your own masterpiece you can create a personalized mix of colors with blik's Classic Dots instead.

Pampa Leather Tiles

One of the difficulties of choosing flooring is that once you put it in you are stuck forever. Not so with the Pampa leather tiles from Artistic Tile. The large leather tiles are magnetized so that they can be applied over sheet metal without mortar, grout or adhesives. You can easily switch the floor or wall from the warm look of naturally fur-covered cowhide tile to a smooth leather tile for the warmer months. The 18" x 18" tiles are also treated for stain resistance making them a durable home decor option.

Shangri La Wall Flat
