The Proenza Schouler Leather PS1 Pouchette is a striking piece for a woman who like practicality to be chic.

Designed like a classic document-carrier, this bag exudes utilitarian charm, but doesn't skim on the style. Firstly, obviously, it's purple, making it an instant standout in any outfit or tucked under any shoulder. The double belting and charmingly rustic foldover closure keep its contents safe, but the jacquard lining and leather trim pocket ensure that this hardworking bag is pretty enough even for ladies of leisure.

It's a tiny little thing, at 11" x 3" x 5.5", and working women will be more likely to use it as a wallet and throw it in a larger bag than use it on its own, but it does make an excellent clutch purse for less-than-formal affairs; a genre for which it can be difficult to dress, let alone accessorize.

We love this shade of violet, the goldtone contrast and especially the belts. We'd be happy to throw our passport and flight itinerary into this. Wouldn't it look fabulous with euros?

The Rebecca Minkoff Darling Shoulder Bag is a bright, playful purse with a flirty vibe. Somebody call Prince -- it's "Purple and Gold."

We love Ms. Minkoff's use of color, and this shoulder bag is no exception. In black, this would be way less special, but in this eye-catching violet, the bag is youthful and fun. We love the vertical zipper belt that holds it all together with a utilitarian push-lock closure and the pretty, dainty tassels on the sides.

The bag is 14 1/2"H x 17"W x 4"D, large enough for books or portfolios, whichever you have. It would certainly brighten our lunch hour to pull a bag like this out from under our desks. A shock of purple can be like a secret weapon against a doldrum-ridden mood.

Designer Paul Smith aims to combine his very Englishness with a bit of the unexpected. In this bag, he gives a rather traditional shape a jolt with color and pattern that just barely misses being psychedelic. It's the subtler hues that give this bag a calmer feel and I think the look is charming. The swirl pattern is printed on a soft Italian leather, accented with brushed gold-tone hardware. It has a large zip top closure under two buckle straps with magnetic closures. Inside, the bag is lined in cream colored canvas and has a cell phone pocket as well as an additional side pocket. It's a proper bag with flair. £475.00.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Violet Clutch, Handbag of the Day

The first thing to note about this beautiful clutch is that it features the same type of tie that the larger Tie Tasha bag did, which looks much improved on a smaller scale. Marc Jacob's Violet Clutch is only 10.5" x 5.5" x 1.5" and is made of soft, brown leather. It can be carried directly in-hand or secured around a wrist with the attached strap. The brass-studded top flap is secured with a small magnetic snap, and also conceals a large zippered pocket on the front of the clutch. Overall, it looks remarkably practical for a small bag and the wrist strap is a nice touch for when you don't want to carry a shoulder bag but still need to have your hands free. Price: $228.
