Open Table's Top Restaurants With A View

yamashiroI'm a sucker for a restaurant with a view and I'm far from alone. Whether it is to impress a romantic partner or delight a guest from out of town, that special vista always appeals. Open Table has rounded up their top 50 scenic view restaurants based on user feedback. Since it's a Open Table list upscale chains are represented. In this case it's the Chart House chain which has made a business of providing seafood with an ocean view. The list is also very California heavy, 15 of the total restaurants are clustered along the California coast. In Los Angeles, Yamashiro offers one of the city's most famous views in a Japanese setting that has popped in a variety of television shows and movies. In Palm Springs, California you have to take a tram to get to Peaks restaurant but are then rewarded with a view that stretches across the desert. The list also features a couple of skyscraper restaurants including the one that was my favorite when I was growing up, The Top of the Hub at the Prudential Tower in Boston.

The only problem with scenic view restaurants is that sometimes you end up paying more for the scenery than the food. You'll generally pay more than you would for the same thing in other places. But for special occasions it's hard to resist the wow effect of a great view.

Locksley Hall, Estate of the Day

Locksley Hall made Forbes' list of the most expensive homes in America this year with a list price of $65 million. It is located across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco in the exclusive Belvedere area of Marin County. Its location right on the bay is highly desirable, in a place where both land and coastline are at a premium, not to mention that it allows the residents to be treated to world-class views of the bay area.

UPDATE: Three years later and this home is now listed at $48 million.
