Gallant Sea Manor, Estate of the Day

Gallant Sea Manor commands a prime chunk of waterfront real estate on Orchid Island across the Indian River intracoastal from the city of Vero Beach, Florida. The huge French Normandy style manor was created and built by George Wackenhut in 1998 and includes over five acres of land with over 360 feet of prime ocean frontage. Two of the acres are landscaped as a park but are zoned for four single family homes and are across the street from the main house and the guest cottage. The main home's large living space includes the grand salon which has an limestone floor that was originally in an 18th Century European church. The eight-bedroom home includes a two-story masterpiece with a private spa loft. The home also features a library, game room and more for a total of 48 rooms and 22,000 square feet of living space. The $36.9 million price tag includes the furnishings.

La Palmeraie, Estate of the Day

Oh these luxurious new Florida houses, so lavish, so huge and so out of the price range of most people. La Palmeraie is an oceanfront estate in Vero Beach, Florida designed by architects Vigneault and Hoos. The estate spreads over fifteen acres reaching nearly one mile from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian River. The walled and gated compound includes a boat pier, sandy beach, courtyard lap pool, oceanfront pool, tennis court, garages for eight cars, caretaker's home and a two-bedroom guest house. The eight-bedroom main house is over 16,800 square feet with French limestone and walnut floors, eight fireplaces, and mahogany windows with impact glass for hurricane season. The scale of the home is absolutely immense and includes a cypress-beamed cathedral ceiling, a cypress-paneled library with floor-to-ceiling bookcases and a climate-controlled wine cave finished in pecky cypress and stone. The chef-designed kitchen features custom hand-made cabinetry, Calcutta gold marble counters and a craveworthy La Cornue range. The grand master suite has two balconies, a sitting room with a fireplace, a morning kitchen,walk-in wardrobes and his-and-her onyx-and-marble baths. This home is listed at $26.5 million.

UPDATE: This home closed on October 2, 2009 for $12.5 million below half of the original asking price.

Terra Bella, Estate of the Day

This isn't my first Terra Bella estate of the day and might not be my favorite (the California Terra Bella from last year has my heart) but it's still rather charming. This Terra Bella is located in the gated community of Indian River Shores in Vero Beach, FLorida. It has approximately 125 ft. ocean frontage on 1.25 acres. The six-bedroom home is your standard Florida Mediterranean but it has a lot more grace than some of the newer homes I've seen in the area. The use of dark wood, tile and arches gives it more of a classic Californian look and I'm always a sucker for a house with circular space. The property includes a separate guest quarters with a living room, circular dining room, kitchenette, and balcony over the three car garage which has mahogany garage doors, cobblestone pavers in the auto court and an adjacent circular wine room with a computerized inventory control system. The outdoor space includes a pool surrounded by grass and tiles which doesn't offer much space to lounge around but perhaps that's what the nearby ocean is for. This home is listed at $8.75 million.

The Estefans Plan Another Hotel

Gloria and Emilio Estefan aren't just music makers, they are successful hoteliers. They already own the Cardozo hotel in South Beach and are now set up expand their burgeoning empire through a partnership with Benchmark Hospitality. They will be opening Costa d'Este in Vero Beach, Florida. The hotel will have 94 guest rooms including four suites. There will be a restaurant, Oriente, which will serve Cuban food and homemade sangria. There will also be a pool with a pool bar. The Spa at Costa d'Este will have a variety of signature treatments and products. The resort will open in January 2008.

Vero Beach Hotel and Resort Opens

The town of Vero Beach in Florida is becoming home to another luxury project. We previously saw the Avalon Beach development, now the Vero Beach Hotel and Resort has opened on Ocean Drive. The hotel is a four-story condo-hotel with 83, one, two, and three bedroom suites. The hotel also has a restaurant, spa, private beach club, heated ocean view pool with cabana, pool bar, fitness center and concierge services. Phase One opened this week and includes 50 bedroom suites and the pool. Phase Two should be done in June and brings in the spa, more suites and the restaurant. Now through April 30, stays at the hotel start at $279 and the suites can be bought for prices starting at $795,000.

Vero Beach, Estate of the Day

This estate in Vero Beach, Florida is a good compromise home for the golfer who needs to be near the course and the golf spouse who would perhaps prefer the ocean view. You can have both here in this house which is so pristine that you can practically smell the white paint from your computer screen. The home is new but the land has ancient oaks to take a bit of that blindingly fresh look off it. The home has three bedrooms in the main house and there is also a separate cabana. This is another one where the developers made it as pristine a blank slate as possible. It is listed at $5.7 million. After the jump, is there such a thing as too new?
