Ultra-Exclusive Veritas RS III Priced at $487,000

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

If you were enchanted by the idea of a retro German roadster with a 500-horsepower V10 engine on tap, you'd better start saving. Because reports from Germany, home of the eminently desirable Veritas RS III, place the supercar's price at a handsome €342,000 (about $487k in US dollars).

You'd also better act fast if you want to get your hands on one, because Vermot AG, the engineering start-up responsible for the Veritas, will only make 30 examples, pretty much guaranteeing you won't pull up next to another one at a traffic light. After those initial 30 are sold, they'll build an additional 30 versions with a fixed roof, and they're also said to be working on an ultra-exclusive sport-utility vehicle with an aircraft engine underneath the hood. Oh dear, this is going to be expensive.

Veritas SUV and RSIII Coupe in the Works

Enthusiasts of exotic European supercars had better keep their eyes on Veritas. The niche German automaker currently only produces one model, but a whopper though it is, they've got bigger plans.

The company's sole current model, the RSIII roadster, recently made its debut at the exclusive Salon Privé in London, packing a BMW V10 engine producing the customer's choice of 500 or 620 horsepower. Only 30 examples of the extreme open-air roadster will be built, but with an eye on the lucrative Middle Eastern market, the company plans to build an additional 30 closed-roof coupes. But that's not all. According to the company's chief executive, Veritas is also working on plans for an exclusive sport-utility vehicle that would make a Porsche Cayenne seem downright common: a carbon-fiber SUV packing a small aircraft engine. Sounds mouthwateringly delicious, so we'll just have to keep our ears to the ground to hear it coming.

London Salon Privé to Feature Exclusive Veritas RS III Supercar

It may seem like a strange time to be promoting six-figure supercars, but evidently somebody forgot to tell the organizers of the London Salon Privé. The exclusive supercar show is held every year at the Hurlingham Club, but this year's, despite the economic situation, is slated to be the biggest yet.

Headlining this year's salon will be the Veritas RS III, an exotic roadster made in Germany. Packing a choice of 480-horsepower V8 or 600-horsepower V10 sourced from BMW's elite M division, the RS III carries a price tag upwards of $375,000 and can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds en route to a top speed in excess of 200 mph while delivering the most unadulterated motoring experience known to man. Only 50 examples will be produced, and the first is making its world debut at the London show. Several new high-priced rides will also be on display for the first time in the UK, including the Morgan Aero Super Sport, Aston Martin One-77, Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S and Maybach Zeppelin. A day pass to the event will cost £125 when the show opens on July 22.
