The Most Expensive Casino Suites Not Just for High Rollers

Everything changes, even in Vegas (or especially in Vegas?) when it comes to big name casinos and how they divy out their best suites. They used to be reserved exclusively for only the highest of high rollers on a comp basis, but these days more and more casinos are catering to a different crowd: those who just want to pay to party and not necessarily spend all day and night gambling.

Flat rates and outrageous luxury perks are the latest trend, with prices easily skyrocketing into 5 digits. The top of the line? The Fantasy Towers at Palms, Hugh Hefner Sky Villa, available for only $40,000/night.

Vegas Humidor

The Vegas Humidor designed by Elie Bleu is one of the more unusual pieces that we've featured here, as it actually does manage to capture the sprit of Sin City's high rollers. Shaped like a giant die, the humidor is made of natural sycamore and has Tahitian black mother-of-pearl circles inlaid on each face to make up the die pattern. One of the dots is not mother of pearl circle, but a small lock that opens the box. Inside, the humidor holds up to 100 cigars in its deep main compartment with two removable open-slat cedar trays. Price: $3,760.

MGM Begins CityCenter Construction

This 4th of July is, according to AAA, the busiest ever, with 40.7 million people hitting the roads. A lot of those people are headed to Las Vegas, which is the summer's number one travel destination, where they can relax in luxury and hope to strike it rich. In Vegas, they are sure that this holiday weekend is setting a trend that will prompt more and more travelers to hit the strip. Preparing for all those additional guests, MGM has finally begun construction on a $7-billion dollar resort, called Project CityCenter. While we covered the plan last year, the company poured the foundation over the weekend.

The 66-acre complex will feature a total of 7 towers, acres of retail space and 12,000 permanent jobs. Two of the towers will be residential, one will be a hotel/condo complex and two will be turned into luxury hotels. There will also, of course, be a casino. One hotel, a "lifestyle hotel," is slated to have a "shimmering facade" and a lot of ambiance. The other is going to be a five-star Mandarin Oriental hotel that will "respond to the desert environment and climate."
