Valentino Rockstud Leather Shoulder Bag, Handbag of the Day

Valentino Rockstud Shoulder Bag
It looks like a bright little treasure box from this angle but the Valentino Rockstud Embellished Shoulder Bag is really a flat (i.e. no side panels) fold-over style handbag in perky vanilla leather with light gold pyramid and button stud embellishments. It has a very prominent Valentino stamped plaque on the front, along with a studded flip-lock fastening and a little scalloped edge for some added feminine energy. It has an open top and the shoulder strap (love that the studs continue the entire length of it) is detachable for carrying as an edgy spring clutch. Fully lined inside in beige twill with three interior pockets and (the only pop of color on the whole bag) a red designer plaque. $1,395

Academy Awards Red-Carpet Round-Up 2011

After yesterday's brisk temperatures and gloomy skies it was a welcome relief to see blue skies and sunshine for Oscar Sunday. At the Academy Awards we saw a lot of stars dressing for whatever the weather might bring.

We were promised a big, bold red carpet this year, a change from the last few years where stars felt a little more subdued. We saw vibrant colors, rich embroidery and large jewels galore at this year's red carpet. The full rainbow is below...

Red Valentino Bow Flap Convertible Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Red Valentino Bow Flap Convertible ClutchThe Red Valentino Bow Flap Convertible Clutch is a shockingly affordable and chic offering from the House of Valentino.

Before you get all up in arms over the fact that this is clearly pink, not red, allow us to inform you that RED actually stands for "Romantic Eccentric Dress," and is a sister line to the traditional Valentino. Red Valentino is a collection with "all of Valentino's sophistication -- but injected with a more contemporary feel," says Net-a-Porter. We think "contemporary" must mean "cheaper." But we're not complaining.

And it also comes in gray.

This adorable 11"W X 7½"H X ¼"D convertible clutch has a magnetic snap closure and a 22" tuckaway shoulder chain. We love it because it's fresh, charming, and has a big ol' unapologetic 1980's bow on it. This bag says "I'm kicky and fun, but with high style." It's the perfect touch of feminity for a no-frills shift dress or other outfit. Match your lipstick to it. We dare you.

The Red Valentino Bow Flap Convertible Clutch is available from Saks Fifth Avenue for $395.00.

Valentino Bow Leather Frame Bag, Handbag of the Day

Valentino Bow-Embellished Leather Frame Bag
I don't think Valentino is physically capable of making an unattractive handbag. Fit for a queen this Bow-Embellished Leather Frame Bag features off-white leather, stitching details, a clasp closure with structured bow embellishment and wire mesh detail, a single leather top handle and a detachable shoulder strap. It also features a small golden designer logo stamp on the back. When you flip it open organization of essentials becomes a breeze as the interior is divided into three equal compartments plus two small patch pockets and is tightly lined in smooth chocolate brown satin. I love it. $1,995

Valentino Raffia and Lace Tote, Handbag of the Day

Valentino Raffia and Lace Tote
Looking a little like a lace teddy reincarnated as a handbag this Raffia and Lace Tote by Valentino exudes delicate old-time femininity with its intricate lace pattern and vintage coloring. The basic tote-shaped body made of nude raffia is overlaid with black floral scalloped lace on the bottom three quarters or so, with narrow patent leather top handles and a large looped floral embellishment. Inside it's more like a shoulder bag than a tote with a black satin lining, a pair of pouch pockets on one side and a zippered one on the other. $1,395

Valentino Floral Satin Clutch
The Floral Appliqué Satin Clutch is another beautifully ruffled floral creation from Valentino, this time in etheral winter white with tiny crystal embellishments and hardware accents. The underbody of white satin is completely covered with sheer crepe appliqués that look a little like small carnations. The gold frame features a combination of clear and green hued crystals, and provides anchor for a delicate gold chain shoulder strap that can be hidden inside. The clutch closes via push-clasp fastening, is fully lined with blush satin, and is the epitome of angelic elegance and beauty. $2,495

Valentino Goes On Display In Singapore

Ruffles, flowing gowns and lots of Valentino red are on display in Singapore as a retrospective tribute to the work of fashion designer Valentino Garavani opens in Singapore. The show runs until February 23, 2011 and features 100 pieces of haute couture including many famous pieces such as the black and white gown Julia Roberts wore when she picked up her Oscar for Best Actress. The show includes Valentino Garavani's early designs to recent creations by current Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. Guided tours are available.

The Italian designer founded his own couture house in 1950 and dressed many famous actreses including Rita Hayworth and Elizabeth Taylor. In 1964, Jacqueline Kennedy asked him to design a wardrobe to mark the end of her mourning for her husband. After that she wore Valentino almost exclusively including a dress that she wore for her marriage to Aristotle Onassis. Valentino retired in 2008 and is also the star of an entertaining documentary entitled "Valentino-- The Last Emperor."

Valentino Embroidered Pouchette, Handbag of the Day

Valentino Embroidered Pouchette
I did another Valentino bag not that long ago but when I saw this Embroidered Pouchette I just couldn't pass it up. Blocks of dusty pink and black leather divide the bag into sections while beadwork that's both delicate and chunky and sewn together in lace-like patterns on the top flap contrasts sharply with gold hardware pyramid studs and multi-colored beadwork on the bottom. The wristlet strap is also studded and acts as a bracelet while being worn. Overall a bag that's mesmerizing and beautiful, and is sure to leave people speechless. $1,695

What to get the stylish woman who has everything? (And let's just say you've exhausted gifts like precious gems, haute couture and yacht excursions to St. Barths) Well, then, what about a super collectible, really expensive fashion coffee table book? Here, a list of some of the priciest tomes out there.

1. The Luxist Top Ten Handbags of 2010

Valentino Crystal-Embellished Feather Clutch
2010 may have been a tough year in a lot of ways, but it was a terrific year for handbags. From divinely sparkling clutches to totes in unheard-of textures, designers were inventive, creative and finally took some risks again -- a sure sign of an improving economy. We're celebrating the return to flamboyance and daring style with a list of our top ten favorites from this year's outstanding Luxist Handbag of the Day collection.

1.
Valentino Crystal-Embellished Feather Clutch

Let's begin with the ethereal, exquisite bag above, the Valentino Crystal-Embellished Feather Clutch. These little birdies outdid even the Judith Lieber Enchanted Stardust Clutch with their whimsical glamour, and the feathers are so elegantly and daintily assembled, the clutch eclipsed the ballerina charm of the Valentino Tulle Rosette Bag. We love the coloring; it's as if each perfect feather has been gingerly dipped in the blackest of ink. The pale pink satin structure and lining complete the dream-come-true wonder of this masterful handbag which commanded $4,170.00.

Valentino Crystal-Embellished Feather Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Valentino Feather Clutch
If you're the sort that like your evening bag to be a little bit of carryable art then this Crystal-Embellished Feather Clutch by Valentino will be right up your alley. In shades of black and blush it's both neutral and eyecatching. The box frame style body is dressed up in layered in light pink feathers with dark tips for a result that's full of depth, texture, and interest. There's a single bunch of dark feathers off to one side that draws the eye up to the bag's crowning glory: a set of three crystal-embellished hardware birds. It closes via a hammered clip fastening, the interior is lined in pink satin, and the bag comes with a detachable gold chain shoulder strap. Beautiful but delicate! $4,170

Valentino Rosette Chain Strap Bag, Handbag of the Day

Valentino Rosette Bag
No one does rosettes like Valentino and what better way showcase them than to design an entire bag around just one? The Rosette Small Leather Chain-Strap Bag is a small black leather bag made of one enormous rosette. Features are sparse on this one and include a detachable gold chain shoulder strap, zip-top closure with a designer-stamped pull, and a black satin-twill lining. Barely bigger than a fist it's a little cutie and could totally pull double duty as a coin purse when you're not using it as a clutch. $325

The Fashion Statement: Paris Wraps It Up

Last but definitely not least. Paris provided the grand finale this week to a string of fashion weeks around the globe that began in New York early September.

While not quite as colorful as their Italian counterparts, Parisian designers delivered collections consistent their houses' heritages. In other words, each brands' fans will be happy. Some of the highlights:

Alexander McQueen was one of the most anticipated shows of the season. It was the first full collection for Sarah Burton who was thrust into the head designer role when the designer committed suicide earlier this year. The verdict? There were stunners such as the ombrè gown pictured above as well as white low-rise pants with two buckles on each hip and sculptural dresses. It's not quite the same anger, beauty or arty story that has always defined the label. But how can it be? I would hate to be Burton who must be burdened with endless comparisons to the late genius.

Chanel's show was darker and more deconstructed than usual. Black dresses looked they had been eaten by moths, edges were tattered, and there were much less fussy versions of the signature Chanel suit. Ines de la Fressange modeled my favorite piece-a black sheer floor-length gown with a cutaway skirt that revealed a slimmer skirt underneath. The gown's blouson featured heavy black stripes reminiscent of Maori tribal tattoos.

Dior Couture Pleated Dress

True fashion is timeless. When you find a piece that is a classic, the momentary trends take a back seat. You imagine yourself wearing this garment for years to come because you feel exceptional in it as it works with your body perfectly. We all have that one piece, and for the lucky ones a few pieces, which make you feel as though you have truly gotten your money's worth and then some. Take for example, Diane von Furstenberg's iconic wrap dress that was originally released in the 1970's and has maintained its appeal and wearability nearly 40 years later. Amazing!

Another dress to add to that list is the Dior Couture Ivory Dress ($2,976). It's exquisite! The Dior Dress could easily being seen on a celebrity walking the red carpet or for us non-celebrities attending a formal event. Michele Meunier and Olivier Chatnenet are the designers behind the Parisian label, E2, who have reworked this vintage Dior Dress making it wearable for today. The contrast between black and ivory make for a striking presentation. Overall, the dress exudes a delicate and ultra feminine feel with an empire waist, black lace along the neckline, and silk flowers along the sides and at the waist with numerous eyelets accentuating the panel belt all topped off with a black silk ribbon at the rear. Although this dress is a hefty investment, it's one that will last through generations.

If you're interested in other dresses where the Parisian Fashion label E2 have been able to rework and restore, view the gallery below for one of kind garments.
