Lin Art Project Shopper, Handbag of the Day

The Lin Art Project Tote ($835) is not for the faint of heart. It's completely unique and unexpected, and goes against the trend of simple silhouettes with minimal adornments. But if you know anything about Lin Besser, designer behind Lin, her tote fits perfectly with her colorful, off-the-wall and quirky aesthetic. Check out her Spring/Summer 2010 collection here.

Made of leather, Lin's tote features a sequined and embroidered character with bright pink and purple bug eyes and three multi-colored teeth. It sort of reminds me of the children's toy – Ugly Dolls. The ones that look so strange that they actually become cute. If someone took the time to decorate an Ugly Doll I have a feeling it would like a lot like Lin's little quirky and scary character.

The interior is spacious and perfect for items that are thin (wallet, magazine, phone, ebook reader, etc). The Lin Art Project Tote is fully lined with a hidden magnetic snap as a closure, and gold accents on the handle. Measurements: 41 cm H x 35 cm W.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Flights of Fancy Shopper

Marc Jacobs has an uncanny ability to create handbags that are immediately classic and sophisticated as well as handbags that are quirky and offbeat yet unexpectedly become classics of their own accord. Perhaps he has that magic touch where for years anything he touches has been successful or maybe we all just love what he does because he is Marc and we expect to be bewildered yet excited about his creations - who knows?

Whatever the case may be, I am pretty much hooked on almost everything he does. I trust his taste and style even when I don't immediately agree with his vision because I know he will always push the envelope all the while having fun and taking chances with fashion. Take for example Jacob's Flights of Fancy Shopper featured here. It's a colorful and quirky collection of various animals set in the outdoors. And although it may not fit the mold of the next "it" bag, it is certainly unique and refreshingly different from the rest of the monotone color oversized bags that have become so popular – which by the way I love as well. The Flights of Fancy Shopper has character all on its own and not because it is a recreation of what shoppers have become accustomed to but because it is Marc once again having fun with fashion. Price: $428.

Ongwat Tiger's Eye Ring

tiger's eye ringThis may be one of the more unusual rings featured on Luxist but one that captures a stone in its beautiful and natural state. The Tiger's Eye Ring by Ongwat is simply constructed and minimal is design, yet with such a large stone (measures at 2 1/2") being the focal point, this ring stands out. Although tiger eye may not be considered the most luxurious of stones to choose from, the various hues that come through against a gold plated setting is very complimentary. Price: $300.

Unique Autosports Pool Table by Hurricane Custom Billiards

Filed under: Decor, Luxury Cars & Autos

Taste is subjective, and one man's dream is another man's nightmare. Take for example this custom pool table. It was crafted by Florida's Hurricane Custom Billiards specially for Unique Autosports South, the Miami showroom of the purveyor of custom rides for Hollywood's finest. Since Unique's whips are all about big wheels and bling, Hurricane built this table out of chromed steel and mounted it on four giant rims with ultra-low-profile tires. They topped it off with black leather trim and a black felt table top, and mounted a custom lighting kit capable of reproducing 1000 colors, just for good measure. And while this may not be your proverbial slice of pie, Hurricane Custom Billiards is capable of crafting a table to suit your taste, no matter how outlandish.

Kate Cusack Zippered Jewelry

We've been seeing exposed zippers on many handbags lately. From Alexander Wang's Donna Washed Hobo to Lockheart's Zip It Addie Tote. It's an unusual accent that adds an unexpected edge to any bag, especially ones as creative as Lockheart's Zip It Alana where they were able to use expose the zipper throughout the entire front and create a tasteful flower. And now exposed zippers have made it's way to jewelry as well. Designer Kate Cusack creates pins, bracelets and necklaces by manipulating zippers to create intricate patterns and shapes that results in a one of a kind design. Featured is the Zipper Bracelet ($300) shown here with figure eight shapes throughout. Check out the rest of her collection below.

Tattoo'd & Tuned: Ferrari F430 Calavera by Unique Sportscars and Novitec Rosso

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Some things are exclusive because they're only available in limited quantities. Others are exclusive because few people actually want them. Under which category the Ferrari F430 Calavera falls is entirely a matter of taste. A joint effort by Unique Sportscars and Novitec Rosso, the Calavera takes the Ferrari supercar into questionable territory by enlisting the services of airbrush artist Knud Tiroch, who decorates the exotic with all manner of tattoo-style decoration, skulls and all. Novitec was brought in to give the Calavera the bite to go with its bark, strapping on not one, but two superchargers to boost power output up to 707 horsepower, driving it up to sixty in three and a half seconds and on to a top speed of 216 miles per hour. A tweaked suspension and aero kit round out the package, while Unique Sportscars has customized the interior as well for that, well...unique feeling. Only eleven examples will be produced, but whether that's a matter of exclusivity or optimism is, after all, a matter of taste.

Chanel Lumière d'Artifices Eyeshadow

Chanel's unique Lumière d'Artifices Eyeshadow was inspired by the sequins that are featured on so many of the fashion label's hand-detailed couture pieces. The colors can complement any outfits, not just couture, and are a lovely (and affordable) way to incorporate some Chanel into your wardrobe. Price: $75.

Moebius Table

A Moebius strip (or Möbius) is a surface that has only one face. The most common model of one can be made by taking a strip of paper, giving it a single twist, and securing the ends together. The base of the Moebius Table follows the same idea, forming an endless twisting base for the 3/4" thick glass tabletop. Made of walnut-stained beechwood, the upright supports of the table are accented with brass connectors. It is elegant and subtle, but hard to take your eyes off of it once you get a good look at the construction. Price: $448.

SpoonFed Art

SpoonFed Art is a business founded by designer Karin Collins. Her technique is lovely, but what is really interesting is the material she uses to make her pendants: spoons. Each pendant begins as a spoon before being handmade into a unique piece of jewelry. The colors are rich and bold, ranging from vibrant pop-art scenes to more subdued and elegant designs. New pieces are added to the collection all the time, but because each piece is original, it is best not to wait when you see one you like. The pendants are available online, at the Los Angeles CAFA Museum Shop and will be featured in Mischa Barton's upcoming ad campaign for Keds, as well as in a new Vera Wang campaign. Price: $85.

Recycled Chopstick Wine Rack

Today is Earth Day and, in honor of that, it seemed appropriate to bring out something earth-friendly. This unique wine rack is made from over 1,000 single-use chopsticks, the kind that come with Chinese takeout, though these are actually from China. The chopsticks are cleaned and thoroughly sanitized at high temperatures, then stained and bound together to create many interesting furnishings and fixtures.  The Wong Wine Rack holds up to 27 bottles of wine. Price: $108.

St. Maarten Grand Ball Dame Tee

This unique tank from St. Maarten features an elegant figure in a flowing black ball gown. The gown wraps nearly all the way around the hem of the shirt, ruffles spilling onto the back. The raw, scalloped bottom edge makes the screen printed dress almost appear to melt into the wearer's own clothes! Paired with jeans, this is a fun, bold tee, but with a black bubble skirt to finish it off, the outfit will be a knockout. Price: $79.

Electric Guitar Cutting Board

The single most boring thing in the kitchen is a cutting board. Usually, it is a piece of plastic that sits near the sink. Recently, I got a bamboo one, which is very beautiful in addition to being sturdy, but it is still plain. I’m thinking about investing in something fancier, something more fun. Something like the Country Toys Electric Guitar Cutting Board, which is unusually stylish for a wooden kitchen accessory. The cutting board is 3/4-inch thick, so it will last for years of use and, if necessary, refinishing. Handmade from gorgeous purple hardwood, this would look great on a kitchen counter and take up a lot less space than a real guitar and in addition to being more wallet-friendly at $60. There is also an Acoustic Guitar version, for you more traditional types.
