Belle de Jour Metallic Tweed Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Tweed is almost always a casual fabric but not when it's like this, not when it's woven with black metallic and gold fibers, then it's a beautiful and glamorous evening look that's unique and eye-catching without being bold. Some people look at the colder weather as an excuse to head south for the winter; we like to think of it as an opportunity to wear lots of new clothes and find fun ways of keeping warm. In the spirit of getting ready for the season in style we took the new 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo, some classic country clothing and ruggedly handsome accouterments on a tour through the glorious autumnal landscape of northern New England, documenting our excursion with the cool new Olympus PEN E-PL1 digital camera. We let the foliage flaunt the bright colors, keeping the clothing to an elegant, understated palette of greens, grays and earthy tones with rich leather, suede and alligator skin details and subtle tortoiseshells and tartans for contrast. Warm textures of wool, cashmere, tweed, moleskin and waxed cotton combined with equestrian and hunting elements guard against the elements and the hazards of the terrain (and local fauna), handling any activity without sacrificing anything in the way of style.

That's also an apt description of the new Cayenne Turbo, hands-down the sportiest SUV around. For 2011 it gets a sleeker and more aggressive appearance, better performance and fuel economy, garnering it the 2011 Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year title (they noted that "the Cayenne's driving experience eclipsed that of every other contender"). Powered by a 4.8-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine generating 500 hp, it can do 0–60 mph in just 4.4 seconds if you're so inclined. Equipped with the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) active all-wheel-drive system it can do just about anything else. Fitted with Porsche's new eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel and a luxurious leather interior influenced by the Panamera, it features a state-of-the-art navigation system with real-time traffic updates, a surround sound system with iPod interface, Bluetooth hands-free phone operation, 18-way adaptive sport seats and more – in short, all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a $105,000 SUV with a Porsche pedigree.

Chloe Punto Milano Pants

Chole's Punto Milano Pants unexpectedly infuse the casualness of sweatpants with trousers. While that description sounds pretty unflattering, creative designer Hannah MacGibbon, actually translates this look quite well into a wearable ensemble. Granted, it seems wearable for someone who is tall and pretty slim, but nonetheless, it is wearable.

The Punto Milano Pants ($1495) are made from a cashmere/camel/alpaca mix and features a ribbed high waist, harem style legs with ribbed banded cuffs. They look best with its matching jacket and then paired with a pale colored blouse, preferably something silky, as shown above. I love the contrast between a dressy material like silk against a casually styled suit. The whole outfit has a definite 70's chic vibe to it that celebrates a woman's seductiveness without putting her body on full display.

New Tailored Clothing from Thomas Pink for Fall

LVMH-owned London shirtmakers and haberdashers Thomas Pink are expanding their tailoring offerings this fall with a natty new collection of wool and tweed jackets, coats and accessories. The collection takes inspiration from great British sporting events where the country's rich heritage remains in full force. Vintage motoring, bicycling and horse racing all contribute influences to a collection full of color, detail and verve. The move is fitting as the firm's name comes from an 18th century London tailor known for making sought-after foxhunting jackets. They're offering classic covert cloth wool coats with velvet collars in navy and brown windowpane; Harris tweed jackets in salt and pepper and a green and pink windowpane; a corduroy sportcoat with contrast stitching (above); a green tweed shawl collar sweater; and tweed driving caps to match. Of course there's also a wide variety of Pink's signature shirts, silk ties and pocket squares in a variety of styles and fabrics.

The Tweeddale Blend Returns After 70 Years

Single malts may be all the rage nowadays, but not so long ago blends were the mainstream. And though there are many quality blends on the market from such labels as Johnnie Walker, Chivas Regal and Famous Grouse, some have been lost to the pages of history.

The Tweeddale Blend is one such lost scotch. It was produced from 1820 until the start of the Second World War, after which it disappeared. But after a 70 year absence, the great grandson of its former proprietor has relaunched the blend using his great grandfather's original recipe book.

Named for the Tweed river that runs by the facility along the Scottish Borders, the Tweeddale Blend features a particularly high proportion of malt whisky – drawn from the Lowlands, Highlands, Speyside and Islay, some as old as 21 years – blended 50/50 with grain whisky no younger than 10 years.

Classic British outerwear company Barbour has come out with a brilliant collection for fall building on the brand's heritage while updating traditional designs and adding subtle new takes on sporting classics.
