Hawaii The New "It" Spot for Lux Condos

Filed under: Estates, Luxury Travel & Hotels

Hawaii has always been known as a little piece of paradise and now it seems that the real estate market is booming there like never before, especially for buyers looking for second and third homes. Condos are especially popular because they can be as roomy and luxurious as a house, but take much less maintenance. Condos also often have luxurious amenities that stand-alone houses are not able to offer. Spectacular views from 20 and 30 stories high and easy beach access are among the obvious benefits, but new buildings like the Trump Waikiki Tower will include a wine cellar, lobby bar, cafe, fitness center, spa, concierge service, 24-hour room service and valet service, all of which will be available to both condo owners and hotel guests alike. These luxury condos are selling for up to $6 million, with demand expected to grow over the coming months as new developments are added.

Donald Trump has announced his first foray into build in Israel. He will be spending $300 million to create a 70-story luxury apartment tower in Ramat Gan in the Tel Aviv district. The new Trump Tower will be the tallest building in the country and it is expected that the apartments will sell for around $1 million each. According to the article on Ynetnews, it took Trump a year to negotiate the deal but Trump is bullish on the future of luxury buildings in the region.

Trump Plans A Mississippi Casino

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

It looks like the latest Trump adventure will be another casino. Trump Entertainment has signed a letter of intent with Diamondhead Casino Corp. for a joint venture to create a casino resort in Diamondhead, Mississippi. Before Hurricane Katrina, casinos could only built on water but a new law allows them to be built on land within 800 feet of certain bodies of water. This resort would be built on land owned by Mississippi Gaming Corporation. The desirable property fronts Interstate 10 and the Bay of St. Louis.

Trump's New Design For Dubai

Nakheel and the Trump Organization are showing off the new design for the Trump International Hotel and Tower at the The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. When the project was first announced back in October they showed off a golden building that was to resemble a palm seed. The new design is much more modern, a split linked tower of steel, glass and stone. The $600 million project is 48 stories and sits at the trunk of the floating palm tree of the Palm Jumeirah. The new design also allows views through the tower's open space. The older design is shown after the jump. What do you think, is it an upgrade or not?

Donald to Design Furniture?

Yesterday's Wall Street Journal (subscription) mentioned in passing that Donald Trump is thinking about going into the furniture business. Word has it that he is in talks, and "near to a deal," with a major department store that will carry his name on a line of furnishings that includes everything from tables and chairs to office furniture. Trump's spokesperson would not name the store yet. Will it be Barneys, Saks or Sears?

Trump Plans Scottish Golf Courses

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

Although some Trump ventures are a bit out of left field, the man does make decent golf courses. Now Trump is taking his links magic to Scotland. He is set to build a new resort near Aberdeen that will have two golf courses and a hotel. The land looks pretty bleak in its current state.  And who knew Trump was Scottish? Apparently his mother is Mary McLeod from Stornaway and Trump's new TrumpGolfScotland website has the details on his Scottish lineage. The course should be ready in a couple of years.

Trump Sues

No one can claim Trump doesn't think big, especially when it comes to real estate and lawsuits. Not only is he working on a 45-story luxury condo high-rise in Philly, he's decided to file a defamation lawsuit against Warner Books and author Timothy O'Brien for publishing claims that Trump's net worth is considerably lower than he claims. Trump is seeking $2.5 billion in compensatory damages and $2.5 billion in punitive damages. Trump said in a statement, "Rather than sitting back and letting false statements be published without challenge, I believe it is important to expose irresponsible, malicious and false reporting."  The book claims Trump's worth "somewhere between $150 million and $250 million."
