Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore Edition

Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore

As promised, Lamborghini is launching a new special edition of its Gallardo supercar to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Italian unification.

The special model, called the Gallardo Tricolore, follows the previous Bicolore edition announced last month. But unlike the two-tone latter, the former is distinguished by a white base paint with carbon-fiber mirror housings and an off-center stripe in the red, white and green of the Italian flag running over its top and through the cabin.

No word yet on pricing or availability, but the smart money's on a limited run of 150 examples. Official announcement on which version of the 5.2-liter V10 engine (550, 560 or 570 metric horsepower, driving all four wheels or just the rear, and through a manual or e-gear transmission) has yet to be made, but the car is set to debut at a special event in Turin next week.

A car show just wouldn't be a car show if we didn't catch a glimpse at some of the most exotic, unobtainable and superlative supercars ever to grace black tarmac. And the Geneva Motor Show never disappoints.

Surrounded by countries producing the finest precision performance machines this side of the Space Shuttle, the Geneva show plays common ground to such notables as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti and Koenigsegg, to name just a few. This year they all came to the city by the lake to display their latest innovations. Follow the jump to read and view what they had in store for us.

The One-of-a-Kind Pagani Zonda Tricolore

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Even among exotic supercars, the Pagani Zonda is a rare beast. The Zonda Cinque even rarer, issued (as the name suggests) in a limited run of five examples. But this is rarer still: the Zonda Tricolore.

Built to honor the Frecce Tricolori aerobatics squadron of the Italian air force, the Zonda Tricolore is based on the aforementioned Zonda Cinque, but carries a number of special touches. The titanium-carbon weave of which the Zonda Tricolore is built has been left exposed, tinted only by a clear blue lacquer, and accented by the red, green and white stripes running up the hood. The triangular air vents at the tail are unique, as are the LED headlights.

Only one example will be built and sold for 1.3 million euros, or about $1.75 million. The Zonda Tricolore will be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, presumably the last iteration of the Zonda before its replacement – currently under development with the C9 moniker – rolls in to supplant it.
