Thakoon Draped Collar Coat

The classic beige trench coat is completely revamped with the magical touch of fashion design star Thakoon. His Draped Collar Coat ($1090) takes the essence of a traditional trench coat and infuses it with a modern and unique twist that is very appealing.

Made from a mix of virgin wool, mohair, alpaca and a hint of nylon, the Draped Collar Coat boasts a dramatic and oversized relaxed collar (which exposes reversed twill), a curved hem that drops in the back, and crochet lace trim at the collar, opening, sleeves, hem and along the belt.

Contrasting colors of grey and white make for a stand out of a coat that still exudes a timeless elegance. I especially liked the hints of reverse twill scattered throughout the coat.

While you won't be able to wear Thakoon's coat on rainy days like the typical trench coat, it will provide some warmth and serve well as a chic and effortless accent to your outfit.

The $250,000 Ferragamo Crocodile Trench Coat

Remember the $150,000 crocodile peacoat from Hermès we wrote about last summer? Luxury Italian fashion house Salvatore Ferragamo has upped the ante considerably with a full length, double-breasted trench coat (above) made from the world's finest crocodile skin that costs an astounding $250,000. Available only by special order, the incredible matte black coat, handmade by artisans in Italy, features epaulettes, D-rings, forearm straps and a silk lining. Thomas Burberry is credited with inventing the trench coat in 1901; originally only British army officers were allowed to wear one. We're guessing this version was probably conceived of before the luxury goods market went to hell in an alligator handbag.

Modern Classic: Burberry's New Trench

Ah, early fall: the classic trench's favorite season. Whether you're still wearing your Burberry trench lined in perennially chic Nova check -- first crafted in 1856 -- or have updated with a slight twist on the classic over the years, you'll still want to make room in your closet for Burberry's latest, most fashion forward group of Fall 08 trenches.

Burberry's Creative Director Christopher Bailey showed new shapes on the runway like the Cocoon Trench or the Tulip Trench, both of which cut a more feminine silhouette. Burberry continues to experiment with fabric -- trenches cut from silk chiffon, metallic silk that looks more liquid mercury than overcoat as well as distinctive quilting.

The trench at right retails for $3,995. See more of the season's modern trenchcoats at Burberry's web shop.

Gisele Stars in Aquascutum's New Ad Campaign

Aquascutum, the London luxury brand founded in 1851, has brought back Brazilian bombshell Gisele Bundchen to star in its new Fall ad campaign. The pictures, co-starring model Jamie Doran, were shot at London's historic St. Paul's Cathedral, Vogue UK reports.

Meanwhile, the company which invented and patented several waterproof materials and pioneered the trench coat, is introducing its first ever line of bags for both men and women. The traditional brand began its foray into high fashion a couple years back when it hired Pierce Brosnan to star in a series of James Bond-style ads.

Over the years Aquascutum coats have sheathed the likes of the Queen Mother, Winston Churchill, Sophia Loren, Greta Garbo, Sean Connery, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart and Sir Edmund Hillary.
