Straw is a prominent component of many spring bags, as a lighter contrast from the heavy, primarily leather handbags that are in stores in winter. It also tends to make bags look much more casual than other materials and - let's face it - an all straw bag is just not always appropriate, no matter how season it may be. Nancy Gonzalez's Python/Straw Tote Bag strikes a nice balance between the luxury of the python and the casual straw, so the bag is much more versatile that you would expect a snakeskin (or plain straw) bag to be. The tote has a magnetic top closure, suede lining and lots of interior pockets. It measures 12"H X 17"L X 4"W. Even though we have seen a lot of handbags here at Luxist, we've never seen one quite like this. From Ecoist, these totes use an environmentally-friendly, recycled material that is durable, waterproof and available in striped, metallic and multi-colored varieties. The mystery material? Candy bar wrappers. Each bag is carefully woven by hand, and as the wrappers vary, each piece will be completely unique. The store stocks a huge variety of other wrapper bags, as well, but the multi-colored tote would be perfect for a trip down to the shore, so it's our favorite of the bunch. Price: $238.

This classic tote is one of the pieces in Luella's new fall collection and its serious, but elegant, look is a distinct contrast from the spring/summer styles that we saw earlier this year when the designer partnered with Target. Like other fall bags we have seen, the Stevie Leather Tote features a harness of leather that wraps around it, descending from the rolled leather handles, but the thick, soft leather and the dangling heart-shaped charms take the edge off what might have been a severe design. The tote is made of a dark chocolate leather and has silver hardware, including a toggle that secures the bag's flap closure. The lining is cream-colored suede. Price: $950.
