Gangster Chic Ties from Duncan Quinn

Duncan Quinn, the London-born, New York-based menswear designer whose Savile Row-with-a-twist togs are favored by the likes of Sean Combs, Entourage star Adrien Grenier, LeBron James and alt-rockers Green Day among others, has come out with a new line of silk ties sporting gangster chic motifs to complement his killer new fall collection we previewed here. The designs (above) are partially inspired by Russian prison tattoos - think Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises - and are made of 100% silk handwoven in England, cut, stitched and finished by hand in New York City. A lot of Quinn's inspiration comes from the "long and well-recorded history of members of the criminal fraternity frequenting Savile Row for their sharp suits and other attire," the designer notes - the ones played by Michael Caine at least.

Hugh Simms Handmade Patchwork Neckties

Hugh Simms is an L.A. based designer with degrees from Cornell and Fashion School F.I.D.M., where he first developed what he describes as his "Ivy League Grit" style. Passionate about supporting the American way and the Los Angeles manufacturing revival, all of his Handmade Patchwork Neckties are made in a small workshop in the heart of L.A. and each pattern, full of details, has significance and meaning. In the photo above Simms is wearing "Lost Library," which takes its inspiration from dusty broken-spined books filled with a paradox of both intelligence and toughness.

Hand-Numbered Limited Edition Ties from Vittorio J

Limited Edition Ties from Vittorio JThose who prefer only the most exclusive items will be charmed by the new line of hand-numbered, limited edition ties from Vittorio J.

The new Exclusive Collection has over 100 styles, but only five of each has been made. Each one is cut, folded and hand-sewn in Naples by artisanal craftsmen, and they feature a hand-made bar tack and Ossiticina Oil, which gives the ties "strength and durable luster."

The Exclusive Collection incorporates high yarn count English silk and double-blend fabric lining (known as NAPOLI + TELA), along with double slip-stitching to prevent wrinkles and protect the fabric.

Another exciting feature:
"The ties include an elastic thread stitched through the interior, and an exposed loop is accessible through an opening at the wider end. If the tie becomes wrinkled, it can be straightened out with a simple tug on the loop, potentially adding years to its lifespan."

The Exclusive Collection can be found at Imparali Custom Tailors for the very reasonable price of $125 - $300.

Vittorio J Ties for Bespoke

Vittorio J for Michael Andrews BespokeVittorio J is an NYC fine tie designer who has created an exclusive, limited collection for the Michael Andrews Bespoke store on the Lower East Side.

The Bespoke collection is made entirely by hand in New York - rare indeed! - with 100% English printed silk which reportedly comes from the same high-end fabric houses used by Kiton and E. Marinella. The ties are retailing for $69.

We find the designs playful and eye-catching without being over-the-top, perfect for the gentleman with a whimsical streak. The set of ties at right features tiny skulls and crossbones - a subtle rebellion.

If you like any of the ties in this gallery, you'd best call custom clothier Michael Andrews Bespoke today; no more than fifteen of each tie has been created.

Hlaska Ties Have a Secret Theme

Make a quiet statement of individuality with these men's ties from Hlaska. At first glance they appear to be fairly standard patterns and stripes, but look closer and you'll see a definite scientific influence, especially to do with the stars and solar system. Available in light to dark colors, you can be wearing stripes that double as strings of dna helixes or binary code, or even the rings of Saturn.

We'll leave it up to you whether you want to enjoy your somewhat geeky (said with all the love in the world) fashion statement in relative silence, or go pointing out the details to everyone in the office. $125

Cuff Links by Prince Charles

Prince Charles will soon be launching a luxury line of cuff links and ties. The new cuff links will be released in limited edition, made of silver and enamel in "arabesque" designs, and are scheduled for release later this month under the label Traditional Arts (which so far has only included houseware items). By the end of the year the new goodies should be available here in the States and around the world. And don't worry, you're not paying to support royal amenities like fine china for afternoon tea -- all the profits go to charity.

Stefano Ricci Crystal Tie

Crystals are frequently added as accents on women's clothes and handbags, especially during the winter when dark colors need a bit of flash to dress them up. Designer Stefano Ricci decided to apply the same principle to some of his ties. He added swirls of tiny Swarovski crystals to this Italian Silk Formal Tie. It certainly will get some attention and won't fit in everywhere you might want to wear a tie, but it's the perfect choice if you want to get noticed. Price: $1,105.

Perspective Silk Ties

Designed by Sovereign Beck, a New York-based pair of designers, Perspective Ties are a lovely variation on a traditional striped tie. The ties come in navy and asphalt gray and feature cleverly spaced lines that create a horizon just in the center of the tie. The illusion is subtle, but somewhat mezmerizing, so don't be surprised if you catch someone staring at it - particularly if you're in a dull meeting. It is 100% silk. Price: $90.

Father's Day Gift List: Top Ten Ties

Father's Day started in 1910 and though there is no record of when the tradition of giving Dad a tie began, they are the quintessential father's day gift. Unfortunately, the more popular ties were as a gift, the less attractive they seemed to get and before long, father's seemed to dread getting "another ugly tie" - as though they were often besieged with such ties. But ties are useful and, thanks to more than a few good designers, there are a lot of fantastic looking ties. Here are some of our favorite picks for Dad this Father's Day.

If Dad likes a bit of a vintage edge to his clothing, or simply doesn't seem to have completely gotten over his fondness for his younger, wilder days, Ben Sherman's warm, vintage brown silk tie with a geometric, floral pattern is one he'll love $59.50
