TechnoMarine Watches CEO Vincent Perriard Jumps Ship

It has been a crazy couple of years for Vincent Perriard. About 18 months ago he suddenly left his CEO position at Concord watches to join TechnoMarine during their brand "relaunch" (which I discussed here). Things seemed to be going quite well. The charismatic Perriard had some very good ideas for the brand and their new direction as exhibited last March during Baselworld 2010 seemed positive. Now at the end of 2010 news has suddenly come in that Perriard left his CEO role at TechnoMarine. What happened?

TechnoMarine's new vitality is more or less attributed to a capital injection by Christian Viros, who presumably worked with Perriard to get him aboard. In a very short amount of time Perriard was able inject TechnoMarine with a new lease on life with a relatively strong new design direction as well as the clever "Ocean Addict" marketing campaign. Just as we were all looking forward to seeing what would come in 2011, he suddenly left. Under Perriard in 2010, TechnoMarine reportedly grew by 34%.

According to TechnoMarine, the break was peaceful, and instead of lining up another CEO, Christian Viros will step in and take a more lead role in the management and direction of the brand. Perriard is rumored to claim disagreements with the TechnoMarine board who presumably shared fundamental differences of opinion with him on the direction of the company. Sources further indicate that Perriard is working on a new project. Something "post crisis," which seems to allude to a higher-end luxury project that will shows its face when economic times are (hopefully) soon better.

TechnoMarine Cruise Sport Chocolate Watch

Yum! TechnoMarine will offer two versions of their newer Cruise Sport watches in delicious chocolate tone. I must admit the brown with rose gold tone is a nice look. What will you wear it with? No idea, I am no fashion expert, but the look is certainly fun. Seen here is the 45mm wide Cruise Sport Chocolate Chronograph, while a smaller 40mm wide Cruise Sport Chocolate with a more simple three hand day/date movement is also available. You can see a full review of the TechnoMarine Cruise Sport watch here.

The watch is in steel, but covered with a rubber/silicone wrap that matches the strap. The bezel is PVD coated in a rose gold tone, while lighter browns and white even out the design. Inside both watches are Japanese quartz movements. While brown watches are not color of the year - who cares. The style is unique (tasty looking) and certainly emits a degree of warmth that goes along with TechnoMarine's beachy theme. Look for these TechnoMarine Cruise Sport Chocolate watches soon with a retail price of $425 - $525.

TechnoMarine's Glimpse At 2010 Watches

If TechnoMarine's desire was to catch my attention and maintain my curious observation with (what I think is) their holiday card - then they have succeeded. The brand best known for their late 1990s act of "breaking taboos" and mixing plastic with diamonds has been quietly undergoing a transformation over the last few months under new direction by Vincent Perriard, formerly of Concord watches.

While I didn't always agree with the design direction at Concord while Perriard was at the helm, he did supremely succeed in getting the world's attention. Whether you liked or disliked the new Concord, at least you knew about it. While Concord was very upscale and highly limited, TechnoMarine is a company with higher volumes in mind. As such I am extremely curious to see what the brand will offer with its newest watches when they are to be unveiled in March 2010.

In the above image you can see a blizzard obscured (thank you cold winter of Photoshop) new TechnoMarine watch design. Black and blue mixes comfortably in a watch that seems to suggest the brand identity well. Aside from this, I know nothing yet about this new chronograph dive watch. What I do know, is that I don't quite understand the holiday message. But it sounds awfully fun, and I'd smile if I heard it come from a TechnoMarine office worker's intoxicated optimistic new year's greeting, while attending some fantasy company holiday party they may have had. Happy "marine time" to you too TechnoMarine, see you in 2010.
