Dolce & Gabbana Celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Naomi Campbell's Career

Filed under: Apparel, Events, Charity, Celebrity Design

Italian fashion design duo Dolce & Gabbana are celebrating the 25th anniversary of Naomi Campbell's career with a limited edition t-shirt collection and launch event. The collection comprises 14 different designs displaying iconic images of the supermodel taken by the world's most famous fashion photographers, including Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein, David LaChapelle, Mario Testino, Ellen von Unwerth, Bruce Weber, Steven Meisel, Herb Ritts and Peter Lindbergh. The collection of 14 shirts will go on sale exclusively at Dolce & Gabbana boutiques in New York on September 10th, followed by London, Milan Paris, Moscow, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Shanghai throughout the fall.

Proceeds from the sale of the shirts will benefit Fashion for Relief, a charity founded by Campbell to raise funds in the fashion world in times and places of need. D&G will hold an exclusive launch party for the anniversary initiative in NYC on Sept. 10th. The designers describe Campbell as "An icon rather than a model," noting "Her peculiar way of walking down the runway marked an era of fashion history and has become a point of reference for many many girls. We have been lucky enough to have the chance to know the person behind the image and for this reason we are even happier to celebrate this anniversary with her."

Balmain's $1600 Slashed Army T-Shirt

Balmain Slashed Army Shirt
Worn and weather-beaten is always interesting when it comes to clothes because it usually means they've really been lived in and there are some good stories to be had. This Slashed Army T-Shirt from Balmain is the short-cut way to achieve that look, coming pre-destroyed so you get all the well-worn character with none of the experience. All for just $1,625.

Personally I think this look goes in with torn jeans -- the holes are only cool if they happened naturally. If this was a t-shirt that was actually worn by an army guy and got all those tears out in the field I would totally love it. But alas it's not, just 100% cotton with "distressed hole detail." Available online at Net-A-Porter.

Volvo Motorsport's Latest Collection Highlights Kids' Gear

volvo motorsports

We've heard the story before. In fact, Volvo has even marketed itself on this premise: You can't fit the whole family in that tiny sportscar of yours, so you trade in for a Volvo station wagon. Things could be worse. But along with it you're going to need to replace that Ferrari and Porsche gear with Volvo paraphernalia, too. Otherwise you'd look silly, right? Well since you switched rides for the kid, why not take the kid along for the ride also? That's what Volvo figures, and so has included stuff specifically for the kids in its latest Motorsport Collection.

Aside from the usual array of windbreakers and polo shirts, Volvo is highlighting this Team Manager t-shirt, especially designed for your favorite little backseat driver. The colors match those of the company's Swedish Touring Car Championship series, in which it's promoting its proprietary DRIVe green technology system. Just to let everyone know who's boss, it's got the words Team Manager printed – instead of embroidered, to optimize comfort – on the back, like all the sponsor logos, and is available straight from Volvo's website along with the rest of the collection.

Love And/Or Hate T-Shirt

So, at $22, this screen printed top by French designer, Rachel Pelfger isn't your typical Luxist fare. But what this shirt lacks in the way of weighty price tags, it more than makes up for in another type of equally valuable luxury -- namely, the ability to say two contradictory things at once.

A politician's dream, this cherry t-shirt says "hate" when you are looking at one way, but reads "love" when you the see the shirt through a mirror image.  All you have decide, I suppose, is whether you are a  "hater" or a "lover". And if you can't decide, thanks to this nifty anagram t-shirt, you can always be both! After all, isn't being able to have it both ways the greatest luxury?
