Sylvester Stallone's Artwork Goes On Display In Switzerland

Sylvester Stallone isn't an actor who took up painting on a lark. His commitment to art spans decades and will get its due in a new retrospective exhibit at Galerie Gmurzynska in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The exhibition, Sylvester Stallone. 35 Years of Painting, shows around 30 pieces that Stallone has painted, some of them self portraits. Stallone likes to paint on a grand scale, the pictures are large, colorful and bold and he cites Pablo Picasso and Gerhard Richter among his influences. In his acting, Stallone combines broad gestures and big action with moments of surprising delicacy and vulnerability and that's true in his artwork as well.

The exhibit runs from February 18 to March 15 and is accompanied by a catalogue written by art critics Anthony Haden-Guest and Donald Kuspit. Over the past couple of years, Stallone has been able to command some pretty impressive prices for his art. In 2009 he sold a piece to casino mogul Steve Wynn for $40,000.

Sylvester Stallone Inks A Deal With Montegrappa

Sylvester Stallone has been chosen as the brand ambassador for luxury pen manufacturer Montegrappa and has acquired an interest in the brand. Additional terms of the partnership will be kept confidential but the company announced that Stallone will provide creative input regarding new styles of pens to be introduced during 2011. Montegrappa has been around for 99 years with its writing implements used by famed authors, heads of state, royalty and international leaders in politics, business, sports and entertainment. Montegrappa brand ambassadors also include Formula One racing driver, Jean Alesi, and author Paulo Coelho.

Stallone was first introduced to Montegrappa when he chose to ink a major contract with an ultra-rare version of the Montegrappa Gold Dragon Fountain Pen. He chose a solid gold version "artist's proof" of the pen which he eventually used to place his signature on the monumental contract. Giuseppe Aquila, CEO of Montegrappa, commented on the partnership, "I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Stallone on many occasions, including the 2009 Venice Film Festival, where Mr. Stallone was recognized for his filmmaking with the Glory To The Filmmaker Award. Sylvester is much more than a friend; he is an icon and an artist and now, an integral part of Montegrappa's distinguished history."

Stallone Sports Ltd. Edition Panerai in 'The Expendables'

In the past we've written about the special limited edition watches created by Panerai to celebrate the annual Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge sailing contests. Now one of the nautical timepieces has turned up in a totally different setting: on Sylvester Stallone's wrist in the new shoot-'em-up action flick The Expendables (above). This isn't just another example of pricey product placement, however; Stallone is a longtime Panerai fan who's credited with introducing the brand to the U.S., and the watch, a limited edition Luminor 1950 Regatta Rattrapante 44 mm, is his personal wrist candy. The split-second chronograph is coated in Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) for durability while sailing or fighting bad guys, and only 500 numbered examples were produced.

Sylvester Stallone Wearing A Jacob & Co. Skull Five Time Zone Watch

Want to know what some of the last Jacob & Co. watches look like before the brand gets totally revitalized next year? Here is Sylvester Stallone modeling a Jacob & Co. Skull Five Time Zone watch. With both white and black diamonds, the watch features the famous five time zone design (with four additional watch dials in addition to the main time. The case is 47mm wide in either black or polished steel, and the skull can be had in white diamonds with a black diamond background or vice versa. Inside the watch are Swiss ETA quartz movements (five of them). Being a Jacob & Co. watch, it is available with almost 10 carats of diamonds. Price starts at about $27,000. Does Stallone like it? Well, he liked it enough to wear it. Watches like this are gonna be collector's items of sorts when Jacob & Co. transforms itself under leadership by Yvan Arpa starting soon.

Stallone, Statham and Schwarzenegger Highlight Star-Studded Evening at The Expendables' Las Vegas Premiere

Celebs and partygoers alike flocked to Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Wednesday evening for the Las Vegas premiere of The Expendables. Crowds lined the casino floor, turned into an impromptu red carpet, while lucky ticket holders and high-roller members of the Total Rewards Diamond and Seven Stars clubs enjoyed access to the celebrity screening, held in the resort's Peepshow theater.

Red carpet notables included cast members Sylvester Stallone (with wife and daughters in tow), Jason Statham, Randy Couture, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Charisma Carpenter, Dolph Lundgren, Giselle Itie, and Governor Schwarzenegger himself, who bypassed the carpet, much to the dismay of the crowd. We're told he went straight to hotspot Koi for dinner, where he was later joined by Stallone. Additional appearances included Young MC (who, appropriately, emceed the screening), Peepshow's Holly Madison, Tommy "Tiny" Lister and Eclipse and New Moon's Daniel Cudmore.

The film, which opens nationwide today, features a hardened team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a corrupt dictator on a South American island. While the plot (shoot, fight, kill, blow things up, repeat) is thin to non-existent, the star-studded cast and exceptional special effects will surely draw a big crowd at the box office.

Inside the invite-only after party, select movie-goers and celebs mingled to the sounds of not one, but two, DJs (too much is never enough for this film of "more, more, more") while noshing on coconut shrimp, mini empanadas and lobster quesadillas while sipping drinks like the Expendables Motherf***er, an electric blue play on a Long Island Iced Tea.

The world of real estate reporting lost one of the greats this week. Braden Keil who wrote the Gimme Shelter column for the NY Post succumbed to cancer. He was a sharp writer and a true gentleman and will be much missed.

--Golfer Jim Furyk has listed his Hawaii mansion, shown above, for $7.5 million. The listing for the five-bedroom home with ocean views is here.
--A duplex in a small 19th-century New York building where painter Mark Rothko once lived is for sale for $2.75 million.

--Patrick Dempsey has put his Bel Air home on the market for $3.595 million. The listing is here.
--Singer Jesse McCartney has listed his Hollywood Hills home for lease for $4,900 a month. The listing is here.

--Max Weinberg, drummer for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and the leader of Conan O'Brien's house band has bought the home on Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles being sold by Naomi Foner and Stephen Gyllenhaal. The couple, who are the parents of Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal first listed the home at $4.2 million but had dropped the price to $3.495 million. It is rumored to have sold for around $3.1 million.
--Producer Mike Medavoy and his wife Irina have listed their home in the Beverly Park community of Beverly Hills again. The home was listed at $23.5 million when we checked it out as an estate of the day in April 2008 but is now on the market for $19.95 million.

--Actress Golden Brooks of TV's "Girlfriends" has placed her four-bedroom, home in the Hollywood Hills on the market for $1,799,900. The listing is here.
--Baby Phat fashion designer Kimora Lee Simmons has dropped the asking price of her home in the Beverly Hills post office area to $6.9 million. It was listed at $7.75 million when we checked it out as an estate of the day last June.
--Actor Robert Loggia has listed his four-bedroom home in the Bel-Air area of Los Angeles for $3.65 million. The listing is here.

--Last summer, Sylvester Stallone purchased a property along with the lot next door in the Lake Sherwood area of Thousand Oaks, California for a total of $6.35 million. Now the home is up for sale for $5.2 million and the adjacent lot is also for sale for $1.65 million.
--Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis' former six-bedroom home in Los Angeles is listed for $3.195 million.

Sylvester Stallone's Restaurant Deal

In the movie "Rocky Balboa" Sylvster Stallone's iconic boxer character became a restaurant owner. Now Stallone owns an Italian restaurant in real life, or at least he partly owns a whole chain of them. Stallone, Charlie Sheen and Danny DeVito celebrated the Planet Hollywood purchase of the Buca di Beppo restaurant chain on Wednesday at the restaurant's Universal City location. The restaurant will be serving Danny DeVito's Premium Limóncello, with a portion of the proceeds from Limoncello sales going to benefit The Heart Association. The chain serves family style Italian food including pizza, ravioli, and chicken Marsala at modest prices.

Stallone should be advised that restaurant owning isn't all fun and games. The Nobu chain, which is partly owned by Robert De Niro, recently paid $2.5 million to settle a lawsuit over the way it handle worker tips.

Stallone Earns Big Money For Vodka Ads

Sylvester Stallone, has battled Russians in the movies but now he is happy to say "There's a bit of Russian in all of us." That's the slogan for the new ads he is doing in Russian for the vodka brand Russian Ice. Russian vodka producer Synergy announced that Stallone signed a one-year contract to promote the brand. Despite the fact that his character Rocky pummeled Soviet boxer Ivan Drago in Rocky IV and his other iconic action hero, John Rambo mowed down Soviet troops in Afghanistan, Stallone is popular in Russia. Synergy is also tauting the fact that Stallone, though most known for his Italian heritage, does have a Russian great-grandmother, Rosa Rabinovich from the Ukranian town of Odessa. Stallone will pocket around $1 million for the ads.

The Classicist: Panerai Past & Present

Officine Panerai, founded in Florence in 1860, makes some of the most coveted wristwatches in the world. They only produce a limited number of timepieces every year, and there's usually a long waiting list for new models costing several thousands of dollars. The company is credited with perfecting the world's first underwater watches in the thirties; many have imitated its oversized style and the numerous devoted Panerai collectors around the globe are known as "Paneristi." Since 1996 the company has also produced a line of watches for Ferrari and serves as the marque's official timekeeper. An impressive new slipcased volume, called simply Panerai, about to be published by Flammarion, details the fascinating history of these beautiful watches.

Early on the company became the official supplier to the Marina Militare (the Royal Italian Navy), initially providing optical and mechanical instruments. In 1910 they began experimenting with luminous materials to make the instrument dials visible in the dark. In 1936 the Marina Militare asked Panerai to develop a wristwatch suitable for use by commandos under extreme conditions. Thus was born the oversized, water-resistant, luminous dial Radiomir, production of which began in 1938, cementing a place for Panerai in the pantheon of the world's great watchmakers.
