Indian Cloth Hooded Scarf

Looking more like a sweater than a scarf, Indian Cloth's Hooded Scarf ($620) will certainly keep you warm. It features a heavy double knit of baby alpaca, a hood, and the length provides an extra layer of warmth underneath a long sweater coat or winter jacket. Although the front is quite long, the back hits right above your waist, which seem like a disadvantage, but I suppose it would be then be considered a hooded sweater at that point.

Given its length, button front and double front pockets, you could wear it as a sweater. Or if you prefer, the Hooded Scarf could be left unbuttoned and wrapped around your neck. Seen here in charcoal, it's also available in army and orche

Missoni Silk Knit Sweater

Layering is key for surviving in transitional weather. It allows you to be prepared and comfortable no matter what you may encounter. While you'll need a little extra time to figure out what to wear, without looking like you just threw anything on that would provide warmth, it's worth the extra minute or two.

Missoni's Silk Knit Sweater ($450) would serve as a fashionable layering piece. Made with lightweight silk knit in a rose and coral shade, you can pair with a long sleeve shirt or a tank depending on the weather.

I especially like the unexpected pop of color given by a vibrant coral strip running along the side. The batwing sleeves are full with a scalloped edge with a cream trim along the bottom. Thankfully, Missoni's oversized sweater has a belt, which will offer you some shape.

Stella McCartney Renee Sweater Jacket

Oversized collars add intrigue and depth to a sweater and jacket. It makes for an interesting and stylish touch that goes beyond trends. And it's this particular element in Stella McCartney's Renee Sweater Jacket ($1195) that made me take notice. The oversized collar can be zipped up and folded over for a very structured look, or wear slightly zipped up and have the collar fan out over your shoulders. The majority of the coat is in a ribbed sweater knit with camel wool around the chest and midriff. While the collar is voluminous, the sweater jacket's silhouette is rather slim and close fitting making for a balanced look of contrasting cuts.

One of our many favorite things about the dressing for Fall, aside from sexy boots, gorgeous handbags, luxurious jackets and scarves, are sweaters. As the Fall approaches, sweaters quickly become a go-to staple. They're a stylish alternative in providing warmth and coziness for days when a jacket would be overkill.

Given its winter white shade, Oscar de la Renta's Sweater Jacket ($1490) may seem like an unlikely choice for a great Fall sweater, but don't let the color dissuade you. It's the color that actually makes this such an attention grabber.

Design Student's Painting Becomes A Bendel's Sweater

Luxury department store Henri Bendel has partnered with an art school to create a new offering for fall. Henri Bendel and the Savannah College of Art and Design's Working Class Studio have created a floral printed cashmere sweater for the Fall 2008 limited edition cashmere collection. The ¾ length scoop neck sweater gets its design from a painting of poppies by a SCAD artist and will available it two jewel tones--purple and pink.The "SCAD Working Class Studio for Henri Bendel" sweater will sell for $248 and be available in late August.

This gray pullover sweater by Libertine, is part of the steady growing cashmere trend this spring. It seems like every hip designer is adding comfy cashmere pieces to their line. With extra long sleeves and an over-sized slouchy look, this top has a slight 80's feel to it. Made in Italy and decorated with fine crystals and a trendy white skull graphic, this pullover isn't cheap, Ron Herman has it for $2,500. I guess looking stylish and feeling cozy has it's price!

Although a cardigan, wouldn't it look just as gorgeous as a fall dress? Of course it would! It may be a bit transparent given the stitching, but that could easily be taken care of. You could pair it with opaque tights and a pair of mary janes for a sexy look or with tall brown boots for a trendy feel. Missoni's Long Wrap Cardigan features kimono-style tie and funky flared sleeves. If you decide to wear it as a cardigan, you could wear open or tied. Gap Gets Inspi(Red)

We've mentioned (Red), a charitable effort designed to raise money for the Global Fund to support HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention in Africa, before when we took a look at an Armani watch that supported the cause. But there are a number of other companies and organizations involved and I popped into the Gap this week to take a look at what their (Red) collection. Everything actually looked very nice and it's hard to argue when 50% of the profits are going to such a worthwhile cause. My favorite item was the (PRODUCT)RED cashmere hoodie. Made of 100% cashmere, the slightly oversized hoodie was very plush and had a flattering cut, with contrasting topstiching and exposed seams. It comes in three colors, gray (pictured), cinnabar red (my favorite) and white. Price: $245.

Ralph Lauren Cashmere Drape Neck Cardigan

There are very few people who are going to complain about getting a cashmere sweater as a holiday gift. Softer than ordinary wool and warmer than most other fabrics, cashmere is a great choice for winter wear in general. Ralph Lauren's Cashmere Drape Neck Cardigan is a cross between a jacket and a sweater, as it is long with a relaxed fit, but is still snuggly enough to lounge around the house with. The wide shawl collar will keep even the coldest breezes at bay when worn outdoors, too. It is available in both cream and dark navy. Price: $900.

J Crew Cashmere Argyle V-neck Sweater

Few things can compare to the warmth and pleasure of pulling on a soft cashmere sweater on a cold day and J. Crew says that this Cashmere Argyle V-neck Sweater is made of their softest cashmere yet. The argyle pattern has a gray heather base with cream and light tan diamonds accenting it, giving it an understated look despite the relatively bold pattern. It has ribbed trip at the neck, cuffs and hem. It goes perfectly with jeans for a casual look, but can easily be dressed up with slacks and a coat for a more refined appearance.

And if you're worried that, for some reason, you can't pull off argyle, they have a similar crew-neck cashmere sweater in solid colors. Price: $228.

You might think that a cat would be an odd choice for a design on clothing meant for dogs, but Hello Kitty fans seem to enjoy seeing the little feline face just about anywhere. This Hello Kitty Pet Sweater, suitable for smallish dogs and cats, is a Neiman Marcus exclusive. It is made of soft pink cashmere with a bit of lycra added to make sure it fits your pet comfortably. Suri and Shiloh Sweaters

I have heard it said that there is a knitting craze among the Hollywood hot list, but it seems rather unlikely that they're sitting at home knitting sweaters when Los Angeles is in the midst of a major heat wave. But it might be true because a popular LA knitting store, Suss Designs, is now selling sweaters inspired by Suri Cruise and Shiloh Jolie- Pitt. Suri's sweater is emblazoned with her initial, while the Shiloh sweater has two cartoon faces that might represent Brangelina's other kids, Zahara and Maddox. The sweaters are selling for $109 (Shiloh) and $89 (Suri) at Suss's LA boutique.
