The holiday season must have some sort of unconscious hold on me because I can't get enough of red shoes. Mind you, I don't even own a single pair of red shoes. So in the spirit of the holiday season, let's embrace a little unexpected color to our shoes.

We lust over killer high heels. As much as we would rejoice in wearing them daily, we have to get back to reality and wear shoes that are, well, wearable. Shoes that will not send us to a podiatrist in 5 years for corrective surgery. Luckily, it doesn't mean we have to forgo style for comfort.

How To Care For Your Luxury Suede Garments

Suede. A rich material which not only looks fantastic, but is fantastically "high maintenance" when it comes to keeping it looking fresh and clean. Keeping your suede garments in like new condition does require a good amount of care; however, follow these tips and you'll be able to minimize your maintenance headaches by a good amount.

Preservation starts with prevention
Keeping your suede in top condition begins with proper everyday storage and care. Start by treating your garment with a suede protection spray prior to wearing for the first time. A light coating of protectant goes a long way to protecting your garment from small amounts of moisture and stains. Be sure to test your suede protectant on the underside of your garment before apply however, as some sprays will darken/discolor your garment on contact.

The second stage of protection is proper storage. When not wearing them, be sure to keep your suede garments in a dark, dry, cool place with adequate airflow and low humidity. Light and moisture are major enemies of suede; the former fades your material, while buildup of the latter will quickly degrade it. In addition, be sure not to store your suede garment in plastic, as the lack of airflow plastic creates will trap moisture inside with you garment, and promote growth of mildew on it's surface.

Versace Patent & Suede Boots

Versace is all about sex appeal. Their clothes are created in such a way that they wrap around a woman's body and enhance everything. It's difficult not to notice a woman wearing a Versace vixen dress. And the same can be said of their shoes.

Take a gander at Versace's High Heeled Boots ($1088). Styled in suede, navy patent leather straps run across the vamp and toe box with golden studs and grommets that nicely break up a sea of purplish blue. There's slight ruching at the top making for a subtle accent if worn with jeans or skinny cords tucked in. Additionally, Versace's High Heeled Boots have an almond shaped toe, which always seem to make your feet look smaller - if that's a concern. My favorite accent is the hint of vixen red around the dark wooden cone shaped heel. These sexy boots would make for a bold alternative to your basic black and brown fall boots.

Set against unassuming grey suede, there are numerous suede loops accented with glittering studs along the vamp. The back zipper allows you to slip on your new party shoes with ease while the heel height offer gorgeous legs and some added height without the pain of feeling as though you are walking on the balls of your feet all night. Givenchy Tassel Oxford

The oxford shoe has been making a strong comeback for both men and women for sometime now. It's a look that I appreciate and when done right, can look unexpectedly fashionable and expressive. Unfortunately, it's also a shoe that I personally cannot wear - too many bad memories of a strict dress code from my private school days.

But Givenchy's Tassel Oxford Heels ($1650) may just change my mind. It's an unusual shoe with all sorts of adornments that may initially seem out of place but there is something about these oxford heels that feel unique and sophisticated. They're styled in warm burnt orange/chestnut brown suede with grommets, laces, tassels and a back zipper. They would look great styled with toothpick corduroys or cargo pants, and a warm loose fitting sweater.

Yves Saint Laurent Asymmetric Platforms

To say YSL's Asymmetric Platforms ($920) are brightly colored is an understatement. They are Willy Wonka toxic grape flavored eye candy. They stand out incredibly while on display in a store and even more so when worn. Covered in a stunningly vibrant purple suede, YSL's platforms do not need any extra bells and whistles – the color says it all. And a 5 1/2" heel with a 1 1/4" platform doesn't hurt to really bring home the point "look at my cool ass shoes!"

What to wear with your purple suede shoes? I say go all out and have fun with your outfit. Try a colorful wrap dress by Diane von Furstenberg or for a slightly subdued look, wear with grey wide leg wool trousers and a flowy colorful blouse. YSL's Asymmetric Platforms are also available in black but definitely not as daring.
