Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

A new boutique hotel is coming to Los Angeles. PNK Group has announced it will hold the grand opening of BLVD. Hotel + Spa on February 28th, 2011 at 10730 Ventura Bl. in Studio City, California. The hotel will have 58 rooms including 30 suites, many of them with garden patios and balconies, as well as a day spa.

PNK Group, which already owns other hotel properties (mostly Comfort Inn and Holiday Express hotels in the Los Angeles area) took on a new direction with BLVD. The name BLVD came from Los Angeles' fabled boulevards and will serve visitors to Universal Studios Hollywood, the Hollywood Bowl and John Anson Ford Theatre and studios and production facilities nearby. The facade is done in warm earth tones in a subdued Southwestern style. At night, blue lighting bathes the building in a modern glow. Sat Garg of Akar Studios worked on BLVD's interior design. The ground floor is both a lobby and a lounge with views to the BLVD Bar and Lounge and wall murals depicting a stylized version of the Los Angeles skyline. There will also be a small coffee bar, deli and upscale boutique. The hotel has an indoor pool, gym, and spa provide guests. Room have complimentary WiFi and some have rain showers, in-room lounges, patios and balconies. Like the bar's signature cocktails, a number of the suites bear the names of Los Angeles' legendary boulevards including Sunset, Wilshire, Robertson, Santa Monica, and Ventura.

The BLVD Bar and Lounge promises to be a neighborhood as well as guest attraction, offering the occasional live DJ. BLVD's VIP car will offer complimentary transportation to guests for any destination within a two mile radius.

A few weeks ago we mentioned the Hollywood Hills home of soap opera star Maurice Bernard, now we've got the listing for his "General Hospital" castmate Tyler Christopher's home in Studio City. The LA Times reported that Christopher, who plays Nikolas Cassidine on the long-running show, has listed the home for $1.399 million with Rodeo Realty. The home appears to have been on the market for a while (Redfin says 192 days) and the listing carries the words "huge price reduction." A peek at the property records on Property Shark indicate that he bought the home in 2006 for $1.355 million.

The home is located on a quiet street and was built in 1960. It has hardwood floors, a gourmet kitchen, dining room, and a living room which opens out onto a backyard with a barbecue center, pool with spa and a five-hole putting green. The master suite has a bathroom with a stall shower and spa tub. The garage is currently outfitted as a gym.

Earlier this week I mentioned the Roy Rogers auction but he's not the only cowboy singer whose belongings are being sold off. The LA Times Hot Property column reports that the Gene Autry estate, built by Autry in 1949 in Studio City, California, is now on the market for the first time. The property is still owned by his widow, Jacqueline Autry. The two-story five-bedroom Spanish-style main house is on 2.4 acres of land. The home has a family room with a western style wet bar, a library/media room with vintage walnut paneling and a breakfast room. The master suite has a fireplace, large closets and his and hers baths. Outside there is a guest house, swimming pool and an outdoor fireplace. The home is full of Western-style furnishing and works of art which can be bought for $200,000. Autry sang "Back in the Saddle Again" but is perhaps most famous for "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." It is listed at $6.9 million with Barbara Robinson of Hilton & Hyland and Connie Nelson of Coldwell Banker, Studio City.

Dilling House, Estate of the Day

Today's home is a mini oasis in the Studio City area of Los Angeles. The property is actually two homes separated by an expansive outdoor recreation area that features a zero edge pool, waterfall jacuzzi, fireplace and pizza oven. The feel of it was designed to give the owners the luxury of having a resort-like retreat at their own home.

The main house which is approximately 2460 square feet has three bedrooms including a large master suite with a bathroom that has a jet tub and large steam shower. The second house is a two-bedroom two-story guest house which is currently in use as a photo studio, gym and offices in the loft. The owners, a fashion photographer and a stylist and fashion editor described the home to me as "pure paradise." This home is listed at $2.295 million.
