Ralph Lauren Stirrup Diamond Link Watch

A new high-jewelry timepiece from Ralph Lauren Watches is this Stirrup collection Diamond Link. A full pave 18k white gold case for the small sized Ralph Lauren Stirrup is not new, but the great looking chain-style bracelet is. The case is about 28mm wide and features a specially made for Ralph Lauren Piaget caliber RL430 manually wound mechanical movement. The Stirrup style is clearly meant to as an homage to Ralph Lauren's love of equestrian activities.

There are literally hundreds of diamonds on the case and bracelet - 1,553 of them in fact. My gosh, where do they fit them all? It was nice for me to play with the drool worthy watch. I am sure it would have been like cat nip for women. Total stone weight is about 24.70 carats. Yes, that is a lot of stones. The mixture of the case style and the classy bracelet are a fine mix of the unique styling of RL pieces combined with a very classic jewelry style presentation. Look for these in very limited quantities soon.

Ralph Lauren Small Stirrup Pink Pony Limited Edition Watch

The Pink Pony Fund is a charitable foundation by Ralph Lauren that is around to fund cancer research. Special Pink Pony collection Ralph Lauren watches and jewelry are released from time to time to benefit the charitable foundation. The newest "watch for charity" is this highly limited edition Ralph Lauren Small Stirrup watch in 18k rose gold with a row of diamonds around the bezel. 100% of the watch proceeds will go to the Pink Pony Fund. So Ralph Lauren isn't making any money off these watches, but at least they can claim a handsome tax write-off.

The Stirrup watch is a newer watch from the (also new) Ralph Lauren watch Co. You can read more about the Stirrup watch here when I first announced them. The Small Stirrup is a lady's version of the piece that is slightly smaller in diameter, and here in rose gold. Because of the Pink Pony connection, the watch has been fitted with a feminine pink colored alligator strap. There are 54 diamonds on the bezel. Inside the watch is a special mechanical manually-wound, movement (Caliber RL430) made for Ralph Lauren by Piaget.

Ralph Lauren Watches Part 1: The Stirrup Collection

As the luxury watch market feels the pressure from the economy on its shoulders, you wouldn't expect to see new brands popping up. Regardless, this partnership between Polo Ralph Lauren and the Richemont Group took seed before the economic hit really began and there was no stopping this seemingly immune connection of fashion and haute horology.

The new Equestrian line from Ralph Lauren is separated into three collections. The first of which is the aptly named "Stirrup Collection" due to the shape of the watch case. No, it isn't the tombstone collection. These are no mere fashion watches as can be seen from their unveiling at which occurred at the luxury watch show SIHH 2009. Richemont is the name behind many luxury brands, some of which the Ralph Lauren collection borrows from literally and thematically.

Inside the Ralph Lauren Stirrup collection watches are all Jaeger LeCoultre (Richemont owned) movements, such as the caliber RL750 in the power reserve version of the watch. The 18k rose gold case has a domed anti-reflective coated sapphire crystal, with a water-resistance of 30 meters. The watch designs look to me like a cross between Cartier (Richemont owned) and Hermes (not Richemont owned). Think of the Roman numbers (Cartier) and the shape of the case that looks like the Hermes lock-shaped watch. The stirrup collection is mounted on a wide crocodile band that is almost like a bund strap given how the lugs are attached. It's attractive and sober looking - just what the economy needs right now.
