Sterling Silver Croc Minaudiere, Handbag of the Day

Looking like it's made of little pebbles stacked together, the Sterling Silver Croc Miniaudiere by Celestina would look equally beautiful on the arm of Wilma Flintstone or a modern day woman -- a sign of good design! Stamped with the organic and elegant pattern of crocodile and inspired by Edwardian cigarette and card cases, this little clutch is a unique and eye-catching fashion statement. It's simple, featuring just the silver croc design and a clasp top adorned with two smoky topazes. Has a lining of suede and comes with a mirror, $2150.

Pavé Diamond Dog Tag

Sometimes guys want a little bling too, you know? But it's hard to find that right balance of flash and masculinity, and although I'm not claiming this Pavé Diamond Dog Tag by David Yurman does the trick (it's all about personal preference and I'm not even a guy) the mix of pave diamonds and dog tag style seems to at least be in the right ballpark. It has a total of 1.15 carats total with a sterling silver logo, cable trim, "925" inlay, and a sterling silver chain pulling the whole thing together. Available at Neiman Marcus for $1,950.

Henri Bendel Launches Accessories Line

Depending on who you ask there can just never be enough handbags and accessories in the world, and for those who agree there's a new line coming out from Henri Bendel just in time for the holidays. Soon to be joining the envious ranks of the Henri Bendel makeup cases will be a whole group of new items including jewelry, handbags, and wallets.

One signature item, available at the Fifth Avenue store, is the 1907 Centennial stripe East-West tote that will retail for $450. But if that's not your thing there's plenty of other options like cuffs, bangles, pendant necklaces, and earrings to name a few.

Nilufer Trazi Kuran Rings

When I saw the rings of Nilufer Tarzi Kuran on the Vivre website I was curious to learn more about the designer. Her rings with evocative names like Turban of the Sultan, Mysteries of the Palace and Lovers of the Harem feature precious stones set in silver and decorated with 18K gold-plated silver details. The designer lives in Istanbul and is the daughter of an Afghani father and a Turkish mother. The Tarzi family has been one of the ruling families of Afghanistan and she was inspired by the jewels of her late great aunt Queen Sorayah of Afghanistan. The rings on sale at Vivre sell for $700.

John Hardy Palu Cuff

Master silversmith John Hardy must be inspired by the beautiful surroundings of his design studio in Bali. There, his jewelry designs are made reality by expert craftsmen, many of them descendants of the artisans who made jewelry for the royal courts of Bali. This striking bracelet is made from 22k yellow gold, hammered and curved into an elegant cuff. Using ancient Balinese techniques, sterling silver is hand-carved into a chain pattern, trimming the edges of the cuff. It's a beautiful take on a classic design that goes with everything and never goes out of style. $1995.

Nail Bangle

I'm undecided on what style this Nail Bangle bracelet by Connie Verrusio fits into. Inspired by hardware and mechanical parts, and "the things that hold the world together," it appears as a large nail bent around in a loop to be worn as jewelry. I like it because it's simple and understated, but very unique at the same time. Not sure I have an outfit that would coordinate, though, and looking at that sharp point I just know I'd be getting it caught on and unraveling every sweater and long-sleeved shirt I own. Made of sterling silver, 9" around and 2.75" across. $150

Phoenix Roze Enamel Hearts

Are these adorable or what? These brightly colored enamel hearts are sterling silver and adorned with semiprecious stones. They are part of the new collection from Phoenix Roze, a small jewelry store in Manhattan. Designer Guy Rozenstrich is a second generation jewelry maker and he makes each piece by hand. He also does custom made pieces and more elaborate and pricey confections such as strands involving rose cut diamonds or yellow sapphires and fire opals. The breezy little hearts sell for $325.

Frank Gehry 7-Fish Necklace

Frank Ghery's jewelry designs are as unique and interesting as his architectural masterpieces. Ghery is currently being sued by Circa Publishing Enterprises over this line of jewelry he created for Tiffany & Co. Claiming it had exclusive rights to produce, distribute and sell the Frank Ghery Collection, Circa is demanding half the proceeds from the sales. But let's just focus on the jewelry, shall we? The collection includes necklaces, rings, bracelets and even tabletop items. The 7-Fish necklace is my favorite. Modern fish shapes created from sterling silver, onyx, nephrite green jade and acacia and pernambuco woods hang from a 16" silver cord like fish on a line. The result is a striking and totally unique piece of jewelry. Available only at Tiffany & Co., this necklace sells for $1,500.

Red Sox Jewelry For Baseball Season

The Red Sox nation has a new way to show their allegiance that is a bit more elegant than a giant foam finger. Boston jeweler Alpha Omega has a new collection of sterling silver jewelry and gifts that celebrate the team. The souvenir pieces include a money clip and cuff links with the Boston "B" or the Red Sox logo, a charm bracelet with a baseball, bat, helmet and Red Sox logo charms, and a keychain featuring baseball, mitt and Red Sox logo charms. Prices range from $30 to $250.

Stethoscope Cufflinks

It isn't all that often that cufflinks can actually be themed towards a profession without looking entirely tacky. Bankers, for example, probably should avoid cufflinks with dollar signs on them. This set of Stethoscope Cufflinks, on the other hand, actually is very cute and would make a great finishing touch for a busy doctor or even for a med school student. It's possible that he sterling silver cufflinks could even be used to deliver a not-to-subtle hint to a son from parents who are hoping he'll end up in med school. Price: $70.

Apollo by James Robinson

Most sterling silver flatware tends toward the traditional styles that look as if they have been handed down through generations even if they are brand new. And much of the interesting contemporary designs are made in stainless steel. The perfect marriage between the two might be found in this silver Apollo flatware from James Robinson.

The James Robinson store in New York has long been the home of high quality silver. They hand forge each piece from a bar of sterling silver. The result of this painstaking process is that each piece is more durable and can be used everyday and tossed in the dishwasher without fear. Most of their designs are the fiddle, shell, and scroll designs seen in homes for centuries but they also have a few more modern designs such as the delightfully thin Apollo. Such craftsmanship is not cheap, five-piece settings can cost over $1,000.

Scott Kay Sterling Silver Buckle Bracelet

Scott Kay, a jeweler who is famed for his platinum and diamond bridal pieces has turned his talents to sterling silver. His designs are similar to other high-end designers who work in this metal such as David Yurman and John Hardy but Scott Kay's specialty is the weave, intricate designs that look like woven cloth or leather. The buckle bracelet shown here is silver with diamond accents and sells for $2100.

Tiffany Monkey Straw

Straws are generally consigned to the realm of a very few drinks, such as root beer floats and milkshakes, and it is difficult to imagine sipping a milkshake out of the Monkey Straw from Tiffany & Co. The straw is 7.25-in. long and is made of sterling silver. A sinuous vine spirals along the length of the piece and there is the small figure of a monkey attached near the top. It could be used for actual drinking, but it might make a better gift at a baby shower, along with all the other cute but impractical objects given out at that type of gathering. Price: $155.

Accordion Locket, Mother's Day Gift of the Day

Sometimes the best gift for mom is one that can be personalized and this Accordion Locket from Red Envelope does that in two ways. The 1/2" x 3/4" x 1 1/8" sterling silver locket unfolds vertically to reveal space for four tiny pictures. Unlike more traditional lockets, which can only ft one or two photos, it has plenty of room for every member of the family - without trying to squish everyone into one shot. The locket can also be monogrammed with a single letter for an additional $5 for that extra special touch. Price: $85.
