Jewelry Designer Stephen Webster Opening Rodeo Drive Store

stephen websterBritish jewelry designer, Stephen Webster is taking his rock-and-roll style to Rodeo Drive. His new store is set to open on December 6 in Beverly Hills and also includes a art gallery, a private dining space for special events and a bar. The designer often uses nature as an inspiration creating rings and bracelets and necklaces featuring some under represented animals including manta rays, lobsters and even mosquitoes.

Webster told the LA Times that he plans to eventually open a store in New York City but that he choose the store in Beverly Hills because of the two-story storefront. Webster, an avid art collector, will showcase work from artists he likes. British artist Tracey Emin has created a neon piece for the store that reads, "I promise to love you." The store's huge glass windows will feature window displays created by Los-Angeles-based stylists. Webster joins a street packed with jewelers including Tiffany & Co., Harry Winston, David Yurman, Cartier and others.

Stephen Webster's Malaria No More Locket

Last year jewelry designer Stephen Webster created a ring to support the Malaria No More campaign and had Victoria Beckham as his celebrity supporter. Webster is back again with a new piece to support the effort, a locket with a glittering mosquito and this year Olivia Palermo and Yasmin and Amber Le Bon have signed on as the celebrity faces of the initiative.

The silver plated belcher chain necklace holds a red enamel pendant with a diamante encrusted mosquito. It comes in a branded pouch and sells for $163.78 in the U.S., £95 in the UK exclusively on ASOS.com. All proceeds go to Malaria No More UK. The charity uses all money raised on the ground in Africa to fund local malaria prevention and treatment programs. Complete info is on mylocket.net.

The Fashion Statement: What Do You Do, Roopal Patel?

As Fashion Editor at Neiman Marcus, Roopal Patel has one of the coolest jobs on the planet. I asked the fashion insider about the biggest fashion mistake people make and what she thinks are the hottest upcoming trends.

Q. What does a fashion editor for a major departments store do?

A. I scout up and coming talent and designers for the store, provide trend direction for the season and help translate that vision into our merchandise assortments with our buyers. It is important for the store to have one consistent message.

Q. What are the most popular trends for resort and spring 2010?

A. Not to give away the highly-coveted list that Senior VP/Fashion Director Ken Downing issues at the beginning of every season but ...blue is the color for both resort and spring. Neiman Marcus is embracing all shades of blue for every category. Tribal fusion was on every runway this season. Look to Givenchy for some of the must-have tribal print wedges and platforms of the season. The nude shoe is the new neutral of the season. The Fendi platform sandal [pictured above] is a must on our list.

Q. What is the most unusual fashion item you've seen in your career?

A. I am always amazed at how high the heel heights are at runway shows and how they get higher with every season. The models make it look so easy. The shoes at Alexander McQueen spring 2010 were over the top!

Q. Has Neiman Marcus changed in response to the economic climate? If so, how?

A. For the holidays, we have our "Little Gems" shop that features presents and gifts for under $100. There are also great [inexpensive] items in many of our designer collections. I found a silver stud pyramid ring from Stephen Webster for $275 and a great David Yurman silver infinity ring at $275.

Q. What is your favorite item in The Christmas Book?

A. I cannot help but to smile when I see the customized cupcake car. It's so original and unique. I also cannot wait to get my hands on the sequined leggings from La Rok and the John Hardy cuff bracelet for evening holiday sparkle.

Q. What is the one thing that makes a look?

A. The right accessory. The perfect handbag or shoes can change your look in seconds.

Q. What is the one common fashion mistake people make?

A. The only mistake one can make is not having fun with your wardrobe. Enjoy and translate the trends that work best for you.

Christina Aguilera Is The Face Of Stephen Webster's New Jewelry Line

New mom Christina Aguilera is the muse behind the latest collection by London jeweler Stephen Webster. The new Stephen Webster Sterling Collection includes two different lines. The first, called Shattered will feature Aguilera in the advertisements. The collection includes over 50 styles of rings, cuffs, pendants and earrings that have gemstones such as jade, chalcedony, goldstone, hematite and white agate inlaid into silver in designs that are meant to resemble bits of broken stained glass from Gothic church windows. The second collection is called Superstud and is more punk. The Stephen Webster Silver Collection will launch in Switzerland at Baselworld early next month, and will be sold in Neiman Marcus exclusively this spring with a roll-out planned to other stores later. The line is meant to be a bridge line between fashion and fine jewelry with prices starting in the low hundreds.
