Montblanc Star Worldtime Automatic Watch

Montblanc Star Worldtime Automatic Watch
The Montblanc Star watch collection gets a world time GMT watch for 2011 called the Star Worldtime Automatic. Using a 42mm wide steel Star style case, the timepiece has a new exclusive movement inside being the Montblanc calibre MB 4810/405 automatic. It is likely a base Swiss movement that has been modified a bit for Montblanc. It does have some interesting features above and beyond your standard GMT watch. For one thing, setting the second time zone does not stop the movement - this prevents timing loss when making adjustments. There is also a ring around the bezel with various city names. That inner bezel spins (also controlled via the crown), while allows you to determine what time it is in any city based upon setting it to the city you are currently in.

Montblanc opted for a smaller GMT hand so not to interfere as much with reading the time. In sporty fashion, it is dark on one side, and light on the other as a relative day/night indicator. In typical fashion the GMT hand is red, while the dial itself is silver tone and black. The face of the watch has a nice textured surface, and emphasizes the DNA of the star collection. Attached to the piece is a black alligator strap. Montblanc has other traveler's watches, including the easy to use GMT function on their Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Automatic watches. Not to mention a host of other GMT pieces. This Star Worldtime GMT adds a little bit to the collection, but is not overly original to the larger Montblanc collection. It will however provide an additional flavor for enthusiasts to choose from.

Chopard 150th Anniversary Happy Sport Star Diamonds Watch

Chopard 150th Anniversary Happy Sport Star Diamonds Watch
First there was the Chopard Happy Diamonds, which then turned into the Happy Sport, which then turned into a bunch of weird watches that were only eclipsed by the saturated world of fakes. The original concept was great, and then I think that Chopard just forgot what the whole point of the watch was. Well as a 150th anniversary celebration of the brand, Chopard released a brand new Happy Sport watch that finally feels fresh, yet connected to the original Happy Diamonds concept. The idea was about having a section of loose moving diamonds set in steel or gold, sandwiched between two sapphire crystals sitting over the watch dial. The Happy Sport Star Diamonds watch takes those diamonds and puts five of them into a star shaped steel settings. The watch dial itself is in a beautiful aventurine lacquered blue - that shines like a night sky. Movement is Swiss quartz.

The shape of the case has been updated as well. It retains the classic look, but with a more modern feel. There are two versions: one with just the loose star diamonds, and one with a diamond studded bezel. The watch is available with a matching blue satin or alligator strap. Only thing I would change is putting the date on a blue disc, or more tastefully incorporate it into the dial design. Oh, and while the Chopard name is nicely full applied to the sapphire crystal, it is rather showy for my taste.

Montblanc Emblem Diamond Gold Rings

For the holiday season Montblanc presents a new jewelry item - these gold, diamond studded rings shaped like the Montblanc star emblem (you usually see it in white against black). The specific model is the Montblanc 4810 ring collection. The rings are quite clever and come in three thicknesses with varying amounts of diamonds. Materials include 18k white, yellow, or red gold - looking nice in each. Montblanc has been really trying to emphasis its jewelry and accessory collection over the last few years to bolster its already popular watch, and of course pen collections.

Montblanc Star Eternal Set Lady's Watches

This set of three watches from Montblanc represents a unique collection each with emphasis on using diamonds in different aesthetic manners - showcasing three of the ways that diamonds are frequently used on women's watches to make them (and the wearer) more beautiful. The collection is the Star Eternal Lady line of watches and includes an automatic three hand model, an automatic with a moon phase indication complication, and a quartz movement based model.

What each model shares in common is the highly decorated 18k white gold case set with diamonds all over the case including 42 on the bezel, as well as a mother of pearl dial. The Star Lady Diamonds Automatic model features a clustered dial look. In addition to the 'galaxy' of diamonds, there is a special array of diamonds that shapes the iconic Montblanc emblem. Next, the Star Eternal Lady Moonphase Diamonds automatic features a more traditional use of diamonds used for hour indicators as well and for rings around the various dials. The third model, being the Star Eternal Lady Diamonds with the quartz movement represents use of diamonds to create organic patterns on the bezel - a particularly common use of diamonds, but difficult to pull-off well. In total, the three watches have over 1,500 Wesselton diamonds total which amount to over 10 carats. The watches come together in a box set.

The Star System Collection

Bright vibrant hues are totally in this season on the fashion front and if you want to translate the look over to your home decor also then a few pieces from the Star System collection would do the trick. Featuring candy colors in solid shades of orange, blue, purple, fuchsia, and white the set includes 4 versions from the small one-seater Starlet to the full-fledged Superstar. The "stars" are created with removable steel buttons (why would you want to remove them?) and the whole look is, to me, a combination of relaxed and in-your-face. Very glamorous.

How Far Will a 5 Star Hotel Go to Keep a Guest Happy?

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Services

Five star hotels don't get that rating simply by having the highest thread count sheets and gourmet room service meals, they will bend over backwards (literally if need be) to keep their guests happy. So that begs the question: how far will they actually go for a client?

It might surprise you. From sending staff to get iPhone training at a local apple store (so they can help a guest learn to work hers) to last minute damage control and orchestration of a wedding proposal involving a hot air balloon, they really will do it all. Read about more crazy stories here, and if you have any of your own please share!

Betty Cooke Starburst Pendant

I love everything stars, and this is no exception. I came across this beautiful Betty Cooke Starburst Pendant on Modcats.com and I just love it. In mint condition and signed by Cooke, this pendant is large yet delicate, and extremely simple in design if you look closely at how it's put together. This pendant goes for $875 but there are several other jewelry items on the Modcats site that are just as unique and impressive, including the Modernist 14k Gold Ring of tigers eye and the Rebajes Modernist Copper Necklace.

Malo Suede Star Bag, Handbag of the Day

The selling point for the Suede 'Star' Bag by Malo is its unique shape - and it's a good one. The tote bag is made of brown suede with leather trim. It has a firm, square bottom, from which soft sides extend upwards. The bag comes together at the top opening, which has no specific closure, in the shape of a four-pointed star. It has two shoulder straps with a generous drop, but the tote just looks like it should be carried casually, dangling from one hand while you stroll around a busy shopping district. It has two interior pockets so your mobile phone and car keys don't get lost at the bottom of the 12" x 12" x 12" tote. Price: $1,525.

Swarovski 2006 Annual Ornaments

There is no better way to add a bit of bling to your tree than with some of the elegant crystal ornaments from Swarovski. Diamonds, in fairness, would be better but to get ones of this size to cover the tree would be cost prohibitive, to say the least. Unlike the rest of Swarovski's ornament line, these three are only produced for 2006 and have the year engraved on them. The Angel ($95) was designed by Mario Dilitz and has matte skin with a crystal body. The Santa Kris Bear ($95) has a rhodium-plated trim on its hat and scarf and the signature Christmas Ornament ($65), designed by Anton Hirzinger, sparkles in multi-faced brilliance.

Swarovski Shining Star

Since it seems that people are more likely to buy artificial or pre-decorated trees for Christmas than to decorate their own, a tree-topper is not the holiday staple that it once was. Perhaps one as beautiful as the Swarovski Shining Star topper will be enough to put a little tradition back into the holiday, though. The Star was designed by Martin Zendron and is fully faceted clear crystal with rhodium-plated details. It comes with an insertable "foot" that acts as a stand if you want to display the 10-inch Star without the tree. Price: $295.
