Spider Scrimshaw Cuff Jessica Kagan Cushman

Jessica Kagan Cushman is famous for her bracelet and accessory designs and this Scrimshaw Spider Cuff really caught my eye. Made of fossilized mammoth ivory and featuring a very large (and sort of realistic looking) spider front and center this is certainly not a piece to be purchased or worn on a whim. Hand-inked and hand-finished, no two of these cuffs come out the same. A unique and rare blend of earthy and contemporary.

I like this spider the best but there's also a lion version and a fly. $2,650

J. Herwitt's Insect Jewelry

I came across the unique jewelry designs of Jennifer Herwitt in May's Vogue. I am always a sucker for a designer who turns the unusual into something beautiful and her J. Herwitt designs turn bugs the creepy crawly into diamond-studded beauties. Herwitt, who is also a set decorator and an interior designer, is inspired by the insect world and while she creates adorable diamond and gold pieces shaped like butterflies and dragonflies, she also gives scorpions, ants and spiders the same treatment. This large spider necklace which is 14K white gold set with13 brilliant cut diamonds sells for $5,660 and is a favorite of the singer Pink.

I think I have discovered the ultimate cure for arachnophobia just place one of the gorgeous gold and pearl spiders on your table or desk. The "table jewelry" is the latest from one of my favorite designers Nicole Landaw. She was inspired by the delicate glass spiders she saw in Venice. To Landaw, the spider is not something repellent or scary it is a representation of wisdom, industriousness and self-reliance. Her gold spiders are all hand fabricated in yellow and white gold, custom built to match the natural pearl bodies. The spider shown here is $1800
