Silvestris Sports Cabriolet Speedboat

Maarten de Bruijn, a designer formerly with Dutch sportscar maker Spyker, has come out with the first speedboat under his new Silvestris Haute Motive Concept brand. The wicked racecar-inspired 23' Silvestris Sports Cabriolet (above) features a convertible hardtop and a rumble seat controlled via a remote-operated hatch. Aluminum body panels are riveted and bonded to a tubular space frame. The full water-resistant leather interior, available in a variety of colors, features a steering wheel and dashboard straight out of a classic roadster. The top-of-the-line engine produces a massive 560hp through a single prop stern drive system for speeds in excess of 55 knots.

Czeers, the Solar-Powered Speedboat

Filed under: Yachts & Sailing, Green

This time of year speedboats are a popular hobby, and unfortunately a more and more common accessory with that hobby is a big 'ol side of guilt due to all the gas and energy negatively impacting the environment. But wealthy water-lovers in the Netherlands now have a new option that's not only much more environmentally friendly but also outrageously cool: a solar-powered speed boat.

The Czeers Solarboat is 33 ft long and can get up to 35mph, thanks to the 150 solar cells covering its entire surface and giving it a very futuristic look. All yours for just $1.1 million. Ouch.

Sea Phantom Finally Getting Real Cred

Filed under: Yachts & Sailing, Wings

Rumors of the Sea Phantom, albeit in varying degrees of truthiness, have been circulating for a while now, but the concept vehicle has just struck the engineering world's pot o gold this month as they're featured in the revered Popular Science. The vehicle is, as PopSci writer Gregory Mone puts it, "Half powerboat, half plane, and all agility, this craft dodges waves by hydroplaning above them." At speeds exceeding 100mph, it's claimed to get you, in complete comfort, to your destination as fast as a helicopter, but with the ease of operation of an offshore speedboat. Could this be a nod at the long-whispered blue highway? Check out pics of the 2006 sea trials after the break.
