The Red Barn, Baryshnikov's Private Retreat Up For Sale

When I made The Red Barn in Snedens Landing, New York an estate of the day back in March I didn't connect it with the two-bedroom cottage that Mikhail Baryshnikov had previously put up for rent. But it turns out that they are part of the same property. Baryshnikov bought the home in 1981 and renovated it. But now he's interested in downsizing.

Snedens Landing is a place where some of the more privacy-minded celebrities have a home. The home began as a barn in the 19th century but was later converted into a residence and then expanded in the 1990s to create a spacious and beautiful home with wide open spaces and large windows offering a water view.

The property that I covered back in March is the whole 4.23 acre property which includes the two-bedroom cottage. As the Wall Street Journal recently reported, Baryshnikov's five-bedroom main house on 1.12 acres is also listed separately at $3.95 million. Baryshnikov and his wife Lisa Rinehart have added newer electrical and heating systems. A new room with with large glass windows is known as the garden room and Rinehart upgraded the kitchen. The WSJ says that the pair is planning to stay in the area and have renovated a smaller home nearby. Both listings are with Ellis Sotheby's International Realty.

Didi Conn in Snedens Landing, Estate of the Day

Didi Conn, the actress best known for playing Frenchy in "Grease" and for voiceover work showcasing her distinctive tones, is just one of the many celebrities to have a home in the Snedens Landing area of Palisades, New York. Some of the celebrities that have lived in the area include Mikhail Baryshnikov, Al Pacino, Lorraine Bracco and Bjork.

Conn and her husband, David Shire, a composer, bought the home from actor Bill Murray. Murray built the home in the 1980s. The guest quarters currently used as a music studio was built around the actual firepole used in the Ghostbusters movie. The home is on around two acres of land. The house itself is an eclectic charmer with an open floorplan that includes a beautiful sunlit great room. There are six bedrooms including two master suites. The colorful folk art in the home complements the classic American style. This home is listed at $2.9 million.

The Red Barn sits on a private lane on 4.23 acres in Snedens Landing in Palisades, New York. We've mentioned Snedens Landing as a place where some of the more privacy-minded celebrities have a home. Today's estate is an ideal retreat. It is located down a long gravel drive. The home began as a barn in the 19th century but was later converted into a residence and then expanded in the 1990s to create a spacious and beautiful home with wiide open spaces and large windows offering a water view. The property also includes a perfectly charming albeit much smaller separate home and two other lots. The main house is 5,800 square feet overlooking the Hudson. It has a formal dining room with a fireplace, sunroom, living room, and five bedrooms. The total property is listed at $6.3 million.

Rent Mikhail Baryshnikov's Getaway Cottage

A variety of celebrities seems to have a quiet little getaway home in Snedens Landing, New York. Singer Björk recently put her home in the area up for sale for $1.8 million or for rental for $7,000 a month. Now we learn that Mikhail Baryshnikov has listed his two-bedroom Adirondack style home for $4,500 a month. The quiet retreat has a wrap-around porch, surrounded by quiet woodlands and a nearby stream. The Real Estalker reports that Baryshnikov owns four contiguous properties in the area. This one is a perfect weekend getaway home with an open great room that includes a piano. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and listing pictures show a small brick fireplace in one of the rooms.
